So, I just figured we'd suss out in the topic below what topics happened in what order, then post them up all pretty in the initial posts. For purposes of this, we will omit any RPs that really don't have anything to do with mainstream plots, btw. (So while Laksha's appearance in Ish lets us date it relative to Fallfish, Fallfish will not be listed)
-Chords in an Ethereal Harp: Seems about right for being the starting point of our timeline. Blaise and Terrian introduced, as is the Parmigianino Institute.
-Chains, Lips, Voices: Happened around a month after Chords, IIRC. Set while Helen's still grieving getting Prime killified on her heist.
-Triannual: Stated to come after Chords, by Nopcsa's blackmail of Terrian, and Prime being a reincarnation of Prime from Chords. (Fun fact: Mirror of Urakuni and The Sea God all take place at the same time, which is why Zebedee and Thyra never got involved in Tri.)
-Whisper in my Ear: I'm pretty sure this comes after Tri, but it could be before. It's largely up to Pohatu, since Terrian is the only mutual thread.
-Bows: Comes after Tri, since Garth works for the Order.
-Emet: Comes after Tri, since Terrian is working for the Order. May come before bows; I don't recall if Nopcsa has his scars from Emet in that thread or not.
-Luxury Train Ride: Comes before Ish, since Massimo is still alive, but after Bows, since Tel works for the Order.
-Ishkabibble: Follows Bows, since Nopcsa mentioned hiring Telrien.
-Burgled Boullogne: Comes after Ish but before Obscured Truth.
-Funeral Pyre for a Fuzzball: Happens briefly before Flint and Steel.
-Flint and Steel: Happens before Disorientation. (both of these could happen on either side of OT/Renard's case)
-Obscured Truth: Renard is in the good graces of the police, so obviously comes later.
-Disorientation: Not clearly-clearly stated, but Thyra's talk about Natalie implies it's her on a more even keel, putting it after Ish, and multiple nods confirm that Ecruteak/Winstone's been having issues with Powers.

Yeah, I was always operating on the assumption that Triannual precedes Whisper, since it began earlier that year.
Lugiasian's arc, Radiance, occurs concurrently with Obscured Truth.
Gasoline precedes The Last Best Hope but I'm not sure if there are any explicit cues that inform their position relative to anything else, since they're mostly insular affairs between Biscuit and Ninety. Huckabee's cameo in Burgled Boullogne doesn't tell us anything, I think.

Are there any other big plots (or at least keystone plots) I'm forgetting? These seem like all the really big ones. I mean, Summoner Style, I guess, but that seems like it's not super relevant to ORP these days (I only want plots here that new writers would gain some insight into the setting by reading.)
El, where does LaDC fit in? Before OT, or after? I'm not sure how clear that is, when it comes to Yoshi.

Other things worth exploring are End Game + Head Games, the Crystal saga, and Luxury Airship Ride. It'd take a dedicated reread to find the ties that place those.

Oh, Endgame! That comes between Tri and Ish, pretty dang clearly. Nothing really makes it clear where it fits in there, though. Presumably before LTR by a decent stretch, since Nat's not still mourning Ender, and is debating with herself if it's been long enough to move on. (The answer is "Yes, but no fucking way with Eragon.")
Luxury Airship Ride predates Tri, but I don't think it's all that plot relevant any more and is kinda cluttered?
Likewise, Kaida and Beyond the Bullet both take place before Emet but neither is remotely relevant besides as footnotes.
I'm thinking we might format this as follows: minor plots that have nothing to do with mainstream stuff are shoved under a spoiler tag. Footnote RPs that don't have much relevance but are still useful (Chains, Lips, Voices, Bows, Pyre, and the like) are listed as plain text. Tangentially relevant stuff (Emet, Whisper in my Ear) is boldface, slightly larger text, and required reading EVENTS (Tri, Ishkabibble, Chords which I keep typing as Chrobs today) would be bold face larger font.
(In a more blunt way, the RPs we don't really care for having people reading, like Beyond the Bullet, get spoiler tagged. I mean, newbies COULD read it, but it's not remotely necessary.)

LaDC, and by extension The Exploration, both take part pre-OT.

Huckabee moved himself and his family to the Archipelago a few months before the events of Boullogne. LBH and Gasoline took place one year prior.

"They just don't seem like me. I don't think that's where my power comes from. If I really had a calling for the arcane arts, wouldn't I be throwing around fireballs and thunderbolts by now?" He shook his head. “Nah, I wish. If I—” (how had he phrased it once?) “—had a calling for the arcane arts, I’d be throwing fireballs and thunderbolts around by now.” Crystal 2 definitely follows Triannual (as the timing of their opening posts would already suggest).

+ now means RPs that happened at the same time. Updates in BOLD -Chords in an Ethereal Harp: Seems about right for being the starting point of our timeline. Blaise and Terrian introduced, as is the Parmigianino Institute. - Luxury Airship Ride: Terrian meets Sly and Ender for the first time. - Kaida and the Amarante: Rhometer and Achenes debut here.-Chains, Lips, Voices: Happened around a month after Chords, IIRC. Set while Helen's still grieving getting Prime killified on her heist. -Triannual: Stated to come after Chords, by Nopcsa's blackmail of Terrian, and Prime being a reincarnation of Prime from Chords. +The Sea God: Zebedee loses the star which Prime shackled to his soul a while back, which flies over into Tri and revives the deceased Prime, essentially. +Mirror Of Urakuni: The reason why Thyra didn't call Zebedee or Sly to help her. -Whisper in my Ear: I'm pretty sure this comes after Tri, but it could be before. It's largely up to Pohatu, since Terrian is the only mutual thread. -Crystal Part 2: Terrian references Triannual, and is in good terms with Cherrygrove, without having his own alliance set up yet. Furthermore, he seems ashamed of his situation with Blaise, who he knows quite well, apparently, which sets this after Whispers. -Bows: Comes after Tri, since Garth works for the Order. -Emet: Comes after Tri, since Terrian is working for the Order. May come before bows; I don't recall if Nopcsa has his scars from Emet in that thread or not. -End Game: Really tricky one here, guys. Though we know it precedes LTR since Ender's dead, it's hard to say how long before. That said, Nopcsa mentions in another topic that he sent Tel looking around Cherrygrove, and he himself showed up there and had conversation with the recently grieving Natalie while looking for Terrian (according to Garth whatever he said was enough that Natalie hates him to this day.)-Luxury Train Ride: Comes before Ish, since Massimo is still alive, but after Bows, since Tel works for the Order. +Chips Are Down: Obviously. -Ishkabibble: Follows Bows, since Nopcsa mentioned hiring Telrien. -Head Games: Presumably. -Burgled Boullogne: Comes after Ish but before Obscured Truth. -Funeral Pyre for a Fuzzball: Happens briefly before Flint and Steel. -Flint and Steel: Happens before Disorientation. (both of these could happen on either side of OT/Renard's case) -Obscured Truth: Renard is in the good graces of the police, so obviously comes later. -Disorientation: Not clearly-clearly stated, but Thyra's talk about Natalie implies it's her on a more even keel, putting it after Ish, and multiple nods confirm that Ecruteak/Winstone's been having issues with Powers. Do we have any idea if Whisper comes before or after Beyond the Bullet? El, where would you specifically slot in LaDC? It can't be before LTR, since Zebedee is pre-LaDC in that thread, but it can slot in anywhere else, really. And I have no idea where The Exploration fits, since it's been years since I read it. Likewise, Biscuit, I'll give you the final word on where to slot Gasoline and LBH in. If it seems like I'm very Terrian-centric here, it's because most other authors tend to use very fuzzy math/timelines (especially Prime, and myself), whereas Pohatu precisely chronicles who Terrian has met on each occasion. If Cendra had more ORP plots, I could use her as a similar benchmark. I'm not sure where Crystal Part 1 slots in, admittedly. It comes before Tri and Endgame... Well, I guess it comes before LAR, but I really don't feel Crystal Part 1 is the RP we want our first timers clicking on first? (Lots of Prime's lesser stuff, kinda clunky stuff from quite a few of us, gives bad impressions of a lot of writers who've improved a ton since then). As aside, rereading Crystal Part 2: "I wasn't there at the fight at Slateport," Yoshimitsu admitted, rubbing the back of his head. "But I know Miko. Not really well or anything, but I know him well enough. He's a good man, who's had a lot of responsibility shoved at him. I know what he did at Slateport and why he did it, but I don't really think any worse of him. I've done a lot worse in my time, just... nothing so in the public eye." OH SHIT.

Furthermore, what plots would you say are the big ones that we want everybody to read? Triannual and Ishkabibble go without saying. LaDC I go back and forth on, since it's more of a swan song for classic ORP, stepping aside the shonen stuff in one last big moment of awesome. Chords, which I just fucking typed as Chrobs again, is the first big keystone plot of ORP, but its far from an ideal RP, since Prime kinda overshadows EVERYBODY, and even Choobs, Pohatu, and I have some really rough writing, compared to modern standards.
LTR has a BUTTLOAD of good stuff, but is huge, which means it has huge guts. (RP and Tear?) Chains, Lips, Voices isn't actually that important, but gives one of the best examples of an RP fight in recent memory (writing might be a bit behind the times, but the give and takes and the rhythm is bang on.) Renard's topic is brilliantly written, but is also not very important in the grand-plot scheme of things, and is very atypical, too.
Maybe if I went with just spitballing for a required reading list:
-Triannual -Chains, Lips, Voices -Ishkabibble -Obscured Truth -(Dis)Orientation
That covers a lot of the critical stuff, gives the newbies grounding in ORP, and shouldn't take more than a day or two of reading. Emet, Bows, LaDC are all runners up, and I think I'm forgetting a really good plot or two by Elliot as well.
(If I could pick one RP to do over in the modern day, in a remastered version, Chrobs has to be my number one pick, followed only by Whisper and Summoner Style.)

I'm down for remastered Chrobs.
I'm also down for remastering Triannual just enough so that Prime doesn't travel to a different plane of consciousness and meet an all-knowing, all-benevolent naked woman whose top priority is the assurance of his destiny. Boy, if we could do a "Special Edition" of Triannual. I'd completely forgotten about that post, and it is miserably embarrassing.

The one big question for remastered Chrobs would be who would end up in the cast, since Pikachu and Prime are gone. Furthermore, it'd require somebody's death, since Helen explicitly says a friend died in the heist attempt. I mean, beyond that, it could be like anybody. I mean, Helen, Terrian, and later on Blaise are all mandatory, in the very least.

Ooh, if we did remastered Chords, how would El feel about a young Antonio being part of the heist crew? We could kinda hybridize Chords and Entertain the Masses, and all without Pohatu even needing to touch (shock! HORROR!) Tanner. Not to mention, it'd contradict no existing canon, AFAIK, since Helen/Terrian/Rie have never starred in the same RP as Antonio since then.

LaDC would have to fit in between Head Games and Boullogne - Yoshi in Head Games is pre-LaDC, and then The Exploration happens, and then OT happens. Exploration was originally planned to span a few in-universe months so it could theoretically be happening at the same time as anything in between LaDC and OT
Young Antonio would be interesting though I'd have to re-read Chords since it's established Young Antonio's only out for number one and I can't actually remember the last time I read Chords.
Also Entertain the Masses isn't canon - revisiting the old topic made me realise I remember literally zero about what I had planned, sadly.

It would probably turn Chords into a slightly less benign caper if Antonio went along, less "let's help Helen obtain a new school!" and more "Let's all raid this place full of expensive mystical artifacts!"
I'm not really sure where Rie fits into this, though. Helen steals a spellbook, Terrian the Masher, Antonio takes a thing, and Rie hates magic, sooo...
Also I'm curious about who could serve as a sacrificial lion. I'm drawing a blank in my own cast, since anybody killable has post-Chords roles (Joseph, Maude, Tsubota). This may take some deep digging, or some kind of cheat (Not sure what yet; maybe somebody who doesn't die in the normal sense? Or some character who's been boxed for a very long time, and have them return later rebuilt by the Parmigianino Institute?

Wait, Prime died during Chords?
So he died during Chords, and also during Triannual? I know he dies and comes back a lot, I didn't realize he compulsively snuck it into other stories that weren't even about that at all.

Technically, yes. Prime had powercreeped so hard that people wouldn't write with his main anymore, so he planned with me that Prime would die from injuries after the duel with his mirror-self, and his soul would be sent back in time to reincarnate into the less-broken Prime we see in Tri, LTR, and so forth.

It's very much worth noting that despite our griping in the present, Prime did make a substantial effort to improve.
Also, Pohatu, I was thinking about things today, and was wondering if you wanted some help going through and editing things, or at least a second pair of eyes. I wouldn't mind going through some of my old stuff and bringing them a bit closer to present standards, for one.
Then again, that's the big question of this thread: Do we want all of our work to be equally polished up, or should we let the worst works stand as a testament to how much we've improved since.

Well, I agree with your original point that a lot of the less formal material doesn't need to be edited at all. (Beyond the Bullet's not pressingly relevant, but you were still writing to a higher level than Prime and Kevin and Achenes deserves the exposure.)
You're welcome to help, if you've barred the windows and bolted the doors so that the mob won't storm your house when they find out you're doing something other than writing new RP posts.

Wait, wait, Achenes deserves the exposure? Are we saying she's an actual good character, or just that she's important, since she provides a lot of the conflict in Emet? Because TBH, Achenes is in the same folder as Zebedee and Thyra, where they've been in my cast for years, but I only feel like I hit my stride with them lately. Honestly, the only Achenes writing I feel is up to par and fits her is an intro for a casual RP I've got typed up but not uploaded, because I want to focus on our higher priority projects (Ish, Terminer, Ucalegon)
Achenes never stood out from the rest of my action girls (Almudena, Kendil, especially Natalie) until I decided that she was a knight in sour armor type, and a bit of a hypocrite.

So here's what I have so far, this isn't formatted... I'm thinking the first post in the finished timeline will be a condensed ESSENTIAL reading list (Basically, Triannual, Ish, MAYBE OT, Disorientation) for priming new readers to ORP, then the second post will be a more diverse list (but focusing on the arcs of relevant characters and the like, e.g. no RPs featuring one shot characters and the like. And the third post will be the ULTIMATE timeline, showing EVERY RP that has any relevance at all. So, what plots here need rewriting/Writing in the first place? Summoner Style: Not a TERRIBLE piece, but for its impact, underwhelming. That said, Clemency will take care of most of that, and is written to modern standards. And Loogs and I have plotted out the other important bit as an RP.
Destruction of Slateport: I'm writing up a fic for this.
Chrobs: We really could use a new take on this, since it kinda created the modern era of Roleplay along with Tri (and tri holds up like 80x better)
I'm not sure if there's any other key plots that need revamping to be readable, at least in the "Required/Recommended reading" list.
