I ever mention my lemon-pepper marinaded tuna steak sandwiches with miracle whip, sea salt, grains of paradise, on whole wheat bread? Really, it just needs sliced celery, and maybe some REALLY finely sliced onion to be perfect.

The Deli from Reba's Deli in Giddings, TX. Ohhhhhhh man, is this place amazing. Made-to-order, oven-baked, hand-tossed, overly-hyphenated pizzas. Sandwiches, wraps, subs, flatbread sandwiches, soups, and salads. Blue Bell ice cream, shakes, malts. Fresh-baked pies, cookies, cakes, quiches, etc. All of this in a fairly innocuous little building in a plaza on the main thoroughfare through town, Highway 290. 290 is the way I go to and from my hometown so I stop here every time I have a chance. I actually put off eating lunch today until about 3 pm just so I could eat here. This sandwich is hot corned beef and pastrami with swiss cheese and spicy brown mustard on grilled rye bread. God damn it is good. I keep wanting to try the Dirty Harry (basically a slightly modified Reuben) but I just don't know if I'd be able to handle the sauerkraut and dressing. That might be too intense for me. I don't think I'm man enough for it. There's also a French dip there that looks really good but fuck, I got this sandwich the first time I went to Reba's and I've been unable to bring myself to try anything else. This sandwich is just that damn good. It's also a lot bigger than it looks in the picture. The back of the half in the foreground is resting on the back of the other half so that it's tilting down and not showing all the juicy, hot, and delicious beef within. God, I can't wait to drive back. Biscuit got the French dip when he came up to see me and almost got a hotel so he could go back the next day.

It's true. I've contemplated just driving to Giddings for a day.

Stopped at a taco shack on my way back from class today and got some tortas. I usually get two since most shacks I've been to have made them kind of small. These were not small. I should have known something was up when she told me it was ten bucks. This is one of them. Al pastor with avocado, onions, jalapeños, and a little mayo with the meat's sauce. Served with some salsa. The other one I got is the same, except with barbacoa. This thing was fucking ripped.

is there anyone in this beloved thread who finds mayo to be really really gross? i hate it.

mayo is a dangerous product. Used correctly, it can compliment and hold together a good sandwich and make it even better. Used improperly (aka lathered on) and it will make you gag no matter how good the sandwich is.
that is my wisdom for the day.

What about Miracle Whip? What's that count as, considering it has more than just "the flavors of salt and grease. Greez-uh. Geeeeessss."

The miracle is that you eat salt and grease and don't immediately hate yourself afterwards.

Miracle Whip is what I use for my sandwiches but the mayo I get on sandwiches that are made for me is usually applied well.
In all things, subtlety.

Plain ol' turkey and swiss on whole grain white with lettuce and mustard. In an example of how a little change can make a big difference, we have the above. It's the same sandwich except on toast, double the cheese, double the lettuce, and with Cholula hot sauce instead of mustard. It's amazing how good this sandwich was for how simple the ingredients were. Cholula is so stacked.

Why am I tempted to post something in this topic about a tortada?

The double down was actually disappointing. It's not that it wasn't good, but... It turned out to be a lot smaller than I expected it to be...

I'm so behind on my sandwiches. Here's a recap of the stuff I had over the summer. My first sandwich from Ike's, The Spiffy Tiffy. chicken, pesto, avocado, mushrooms, pepperjack, and provolone on dutch crunch with all the misc sandwich fixins. And stuffed jalapenos. Second sandwich from Ike's. Called the [name of the girl i'm dating]. Wonky ass name, great sandwich. Halal Chicken Breast, Honey Mustard, Avocado, PepperJack + Beer battered onion rings, on dutch crunch. Last sandwich I had at Ike's this summer. The Menage-a-Trois. This was the best, I think. Chicken breast, honey, honey mustard, bbq sauce, swiss, gouda, and pepperjack. A panini I got from the grocery store down the street from my house. A bit salty, but I had some butternut bisque to cancel that out. Tuscans Salami, baby arugala, some cheese And I just ate this now. I don't know if it counts since it's open face, though. I was too lazy to slice another piece of ciabatta. Light spread of dijon mustard, rullpølse (it's the meat, basically danish ham but better), and some feta cubes. Yay for having a giant loaf of ciabatta.

My friend had the oddest sandwich the other day. Think of breakfast but between two pieces of bread.
Don't have pics, but lemme describe it for you
Take two fairly big pieces of rye bread, scramble some eggs and finely chop up some ham and turkey coldcuts. Put the scrambled egg on one of the pieces of bread. Mix the two kinds of coldcuts together and generously "sprinkle" that on top of the egg. Then grab some cereal (he used fruit loops, but said that just about any will work) and add that on top of the eggs and meat. Just before closing the sandwich, add some powdered milk on top of the cereal.
I really wasn't sure on how to react to that and honestly was really curious on how it tastes.

Switch out the powdered milk for provolone, and use corn flakes for cereal, and you may be onto something.

You lost me when you said he put cereal on it. Then when you said powdered milk I think my tongue tried to escape from my mouth so that it wouldn't be able to taste that.

So I work at a Pita Pit now and I get to make delicious pitas such as: falafel, bacon, feta, cheddar, tzatziki, babaganoush, pineapple, romaine, black olive, pickles, banana peppers, black pepper, secret sauce (banana pepper juice-based). Uh yeah
