Yeah, it's happening. I can't say I'm too impressed by those two (Japanese names Zoroark, left, and Zorua). Looks like Shinx and Lucario went off to start their own new evolution line. The Lucario comparison is particularly apt given that Zoroark will supposedly be starring in their next movie. Not that I care personally about that one since, like any self-respecting American, I haven't seen any Pokemon movies since the third one came out, but if they first starred Lucario and are now going to star Zoroark... I can't help but worry that Pokemon may be starting to pander to the furry crowd. And that's terrible.

Zoroark = Shadow + Renamon combined.
Alternatively: Roark running around with a mask, cutting 'Z's into rocks.

Blood and I JUST talked about Gen V coming last week.
I told ya gentlemen they shoulda stopped at Gen III, but hoo boy, did anybody listen? Nope. Now, here we are, and we're dealing with "Douchetail" and "Sluttysmirk" the innevitably redundant and not so great looking beasts.
Is there anything here that we didn't already have between Lucario, Arcanine, and Eevee? We need more things that AREN'T friggin' foxes. All those do is make the furries wet themselves.
But hey, at least it's something new. Gev IV pissed me off so hard, what with half of it being legendary, and the other half being derivatives of older generations. Hopefully, they'll be more focused on introducing new generations and monster concepts, and less on adding forms to make classic 'mons less presentable and more broken. (I'm looking at you, Magmortar, Yanmega, Likitard)

The starters, probably. I'm assuming Grass is at the top, then Fire and Water at the bottom. Grass looks not reptillian (kind of porcine, actually, with the tail), which is great and it's totally great that it only took them five god damned generations to come up with a Grass starter that isn't based on a reptile. Awesome and wonderful! Seriously, though, I'm definitely pretty curious about this one. Might incorporate some rabbit elements? The only problem is that its profile is way too similar to Turtwig's. When the design is fully revealed, it better be mad different from Twiggy. Fire, if that's the one on the bottom left, is... interesting. That is one pointy-ass head. I can't help but feel that it's going to be a reptile of some kind. Seriously guys we've had enough starter reptiles. You know what we haven't had enough of? Starter mammals. Only Cyndaquil and Chimchar! That's part of why I'm hoping Grass is a mammal this time. Anyway yeah Fire looks cool but I can't imagine it being anything other than Charmander + Treecko. Water's the hardest to place. Are those ears, or froglike bulging eyes? If the former, it's probably a mammal, but we just had beavers and otters last generation so what new Water mammals could they trot out? Don't let it be a cat, okay? We have enough cats. Overall, I continue to be worried. Making fan Pokemon was a hobby of mine for many years. There are plenty of concepts they haven't turned into Pokemon yet. But right now this generation looks the most repetitive yet.

I've lost SOME of my hatred for Gen IV, but it's still a weak generation design-wise. Three identical legendaries, lots of Pokemon that are basically old ones + or - various eatig disorders and squiggles, and so on and so forth. There's a TON of great concepts in there, but the actual designs are feeble (I must admit that I like what they've done with most Gen III tie ins, though. They capped off some things the felt incomplete, like the Roselia line and the more masculine Gardevoir variant.)
Gen V... I have hope, but I think they're just pandering at this point. As was said earlier, they've got "Furry Bait #2" in the pipeline, and these starters... Hrmmm...
I'm hoping it goes L-to-R, Grass, Fire, Water. We haven't had a good quadrupedal Fire starter EVER, so it's breaking new ground. Heck, if it's a flame rabbit, it'll be the first time I pick a Fire type. (Respectively, Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Turtwig) That squiggly-doodle tail is hard to explain, though.
I guess I'm slanted towards that interpretation of things though, because I'm seeing a Celebi style head on that far left one. I'm actually pegging it as a Fairy type deal... So I guess maybe I'd go with grass again, since that'd be a fun starter. Of course, it's probably a lizard/weasel thing, but I can hope!
The last one is ugly and blobby. My first instinctive guess was a platypus, though, which could be kinda cool.

Here's some pics that my friend showed me before that are related to gen V Edit: Ok. The pics are refuisng to post, but... hese games are developed for the NDS system. Now, most of you might be thinking, "Why not N3DS? We want some improved graphics!!!" Well, N3DS won't be out until some time around March or April 2011, so too bad But don't worry, me thinks that the "Third version" might have a chance to be released for the N3DS. *fingers crossed* Plus, no need to spend more money for the new system just yet, NDS ftw! Edit 2: I forgot that the English version might be released around the time the N3DS releases....hmm.....interesting.....

SOOO called fire-pig. Cool to get another pig. Makes a porker party viable (Piloswine, Grumpig, this l'il guy, and I thought there was a couple others, but I may be wrong. I guess maybe just a battle tower party?)
The water type registers a "What the fuuuck" out of 10, but the other two are much better designs than most of Gen. IV's starters. Kinda Retro-Gen II, actually, with their sleek aesthetics and two design quirks. (I dunno about you guys, but most Gen I seemed to me to be "normal cartoon animal design+1 detail", Gen II usually gave two quirks, and three and four just piled them on.)

Oh what the f*ck.
What the f*ck.
It's Treecko, something cool and new and exciting, and Piplup.
It is Treecko, something cool and new and exciting, and Piplup.
Will they ever assuage their massive boner for Grass-type starter reptiles? Apparently not, to such a degree that they'll just go ahead and use the exact same animal (a gecko) for two Grass-type starter reptiles because HEY IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME!
And the Water thing... ugh. Wow. That better have some cool evolutions. I mean it might, I'll hold out hope as far as that goes, but otherwise, sad clown otter Piplup can just go be a sad clown somewhere else.
Go fire pig. May you evolve into a great flaming boar. And not be a Fire/Fighting type.

The fire thing's actually an aadvark, which I still can't spell (according to Cyonex).
The water type reminds me of the otters from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It's kinda cute.
The grass thing... I get that it's reptilian, but I can't figure out exactly what it is. Apart from pointy. Scratch that, it's the lizard from the Geico adverts.

Scratch that, it's the lizard from the Geico adverts. I was thinking the exact same thing about the water starter. Think Sega got involved? And I also think you're right about the Grass one. We knew Geico didn't pull through with it's cave man TV show, but who would have thought that he'd appear in pokemon games? Hey, think I'll get a discount on my car insurance if I catch him?

That's the point I'd like to stress, here. Those Geico jokes you're making? Those should not be relevant again.

Aardvark... Makes VERY much sense. Hope it has some extra Anti-Bug firepower, then. On the bright side, it looks like it might mean it'll be Fire/Ground, which is a nice combo. It'd be kinda cool if this gen, each starter was extra weak to the other ones, since Gen IV made weaknesses barely an issue. Fire-Ground, Water-Rock/Ground, Grass/SOMETHING (Dunno if there'd be a decent pairing there, considering it's a boring gecko. I was so hoping for a "sorta Celebi".) Actually, Photu, your argument is semi-invalid, since that's an anole, and not a gecko. Still an incredibly boring lizard starter, but it IS different.

An anole, really? Well, still, it's conceptually practically the same thing. And I can't really imagine how different its evolutions are going to look from Grovyle and Sceptile.
