I spam Protect, so I typically just set myself up to look vulnerable, let my opponent get lured into hitting their own dudes, then use Protect with everybody in my group.
It's bad enough in single battles. In double, I'm essentially the Scrappy of the local metagame. (Well, other than Kevin's Hippowdon. THAT THING)

I love sending in Garchomp and Gengar in to murder them with Special and Physical attacks. Garchomp gets the STAB and Gengar Levitates which lets me spam the shit out of Earthquake.
P.S. My wife says she loves how on Battle Revolutions that Gengar is all dancing and smiling while everyone else is dying when I play.

Pics or it didn't happen. (If it's still pink, MAYBE Dace will train one!)
Oh, and positive news for Pohatu: Some concept art for something or other depicts something looking like gigantic leafy plates on something looking like the grass starter, so this one might be evolving into a spinosaurus sort of thing. Still not that stellar, but it's on track to be much more appealing than the "We just hot glue gunned some stuff to its butt" that Sceptile brings to the table.

Well, this helps cement my views on what each generation is based on: G1: Kinda a generic mishmash for the most part, but with quite a majority of the creatures being animals. G2: The species seemed more biased towards a historical/world culture sort of feel. Still not much of a shift, but we've got the black dogs of English Folklore, Aztec looking birds, the Unown line, Santabird, etc. G3: One of the main reasons G3 was SO unpopular upon inception, and so rapidly appreciated in retrospect, is that it appears to be "G1, but done with our more modern design". So, we got a lot of sorta... retreads out of it, but almost all have a solid conceptual basis. G4: This one's so massively controversial amongst fans because quite bluntly, a large ammount of it is "fixes" updating older, invalid Pokemon. It felt kinda like spinning one's wheels, since just updating two dozen Pokemon feels like retreads, and beyond that, there wasn't much beyond the compulsories (Nine starters, a bird line that's obscenely common, a rodent line that's obscenely common, legendary trio, two fossil lines, pseudo-legendary dragons...) All in all, about half the generation was roughly stuff we'd seen before. Granted, the new stuff we did get was very fresh and nice (Wormadam, Vespiqueen, Abomisnow, Skuntank, etc.) G5: It seems this one's mostly Japanese culture and/or pop culture based. We've got a daruma doll Pokemon, a victory sign Pokemon (which amusingly enough had some knuckleheads wishing it'd stop throwing the victory signs), elegant gothic Lolita the Pokemon, a pair of Bakus, etc., etc.
So, at least I get a feeling I'll like this generation.

Ohhh, these two are meerkats? Huh! If you're right, good catch, because I would not have figured that out. This is possibly because real-life meerkats are empirically adorable whereas those two Pokemon are awful little bug-eyed buck-toothed freaks. That is not an empirical observation but it's still pretty much correct.

But ohnoes... evolution?
....
ALL OBEY HYPNOMEERKAT!!!!
If its actually psychic then I might have to train one just to call it hypnobeaver/meerkat respectively.

Also: wooow nice going with Choroneko. Doesn't look like a discarded Glameow design at all. Not at all! No, not at all like a discarded design from that Pokemon you introduced one generation ago.
Hate the monkeys, Yorterrie's actually cute, the coffin and tarantula are wonderful and I love them, afro Taurus is sosik, Tabunne is bullshit and we don't need another Chansey, and the mushroom Pokeball one is actually kinda interesting I guess.

Choobs' words are words of wisdom.
There's no reason why all Grass-type starters so far should have been reptiles or that the past three Fire-type starters have all become Fire/Fighting-types. You can't explain that by saying that oh you know the creative well dries out at some point or another.

Fire/Fighting is old. Choobeh, Slowbro all of them to death for us, okay? (I think Slowbro is one of those things you only appreciate more and more with age. When we're eighty, we'll all have tattoos of it in embarassing locations.
Not to mention that there's so many cool ideas that could be done instead. As Kuroboom pointed out, a Flaming Ghost would be fun. (Actually, Grass/Fighting, Fire/Ghost, Water/Dark would be a killer setup for an initial trio.) Fire Ice and Fire Electric both are wicked awesome ideas, too. Or they can just go with the direction we all know they're heading, and make the starters Grass/Dragon, Fire/Dragon, and Water/Dragon. (Freakin' dragons. I liked them the first two gens, and then they became useful!)
Or, if they want to go Fire Fighting, let's play with it. Have the other starters be Grass/Rock and Water/Flying or something like that. (I'm halfway tempted to actively imagine a new generation just to counteract the consequetive dropped balls on the starters.)

Alright, I"ll agree with that. They do need some novelty types (I was hoping for a fire/dark... *sad face*), but better yet, I was hoping for a switch of the basic starter types. Dark/psychic/fighting
But... Creativity, it's a big corporation we're talking about. Had they actualyl took the time to look at all the pokemon-related forums, the generations of pokemon could have been largely better...I'm just sayin'
I was really hoping for some interesting stuff this gen, and it looks like we'll be getting some stuff, but not enough....Then again, I haven't palyed the games yet
