Do we still need to rely on censors? By which I mean are there still members who primarily have to view the forum on public computers that specifically block pages that contain expletives?
If not, I'd at least like to take "f*ck" and its ilk off there since that's such a common and useful word. The more specifically offensive items on the list can stay censored as far as I'm concerned, but "f*ck" would be a nice one to set free.

I don't mind it, really. Kind of deters its overuse, which always helps my writing.

I'd prefer that that word stays censored. It makes me happy to see it that way and I doubt that it's truly being impaired by having an asterisk replace one letter. Also, I hear that word frequently throughout the day, and I'd rather not get on here and have to see it constantly.
I understand wanting it to be uncensored for literary purposes. I'm sure it sucks when you write something and then you see this huge blot in the middle of the post, but does that really come up that often?

The F-word does. For me. And I don't think at all there's anything unhealthy about the degree to which it crops up. It's just that certain characters of mine (Cesare, Williams, Vinnie, Sikes, soon Shouta) tend to swear quite a bit both in dialogue and in narrative.

I'm just opposed to censorship in general. If it's no longer necessary, then set them free! They're just words, after all.

Even if it is not necessary today, it could very well be tomorrow. A lot of us still have friends in younger grades and it's important to keep things open so that they can still join and potentially bring in friends of theirs that show interest as well.

Aren't we already probably tripping some networks' walls by not censoring "shit", though?
And you can't take "shit" away from me. I need my shit.

Some, but most schools don't block that just because it cuts out too many things that the schools themselves use for class. Back at my high school a lot of the sites hat had the information we needed used that word, but the f-word was still a big issue. If I could drag her over here I imagine Fleet could verify as to whether or not it was completely blacklisted or not. (Then again the computers were crappy and the security on them was a joke...)

I don't think anyone here is predisposed to overusing the more colorful words out there. When was the last time you saw someone from here make an RP post that more closely resembled a raunchy rap song? Never, I submit to you.
And Pohatu's correct, swearing is an important part of certain characters. Like Cesare. Cesare doesn't strike me as the "Oh sugar!" type.
I mean, sure, the current censor isn't standing in the way of that, but that's not the point. The point of the censor was to allow Clicker, et al., to access the site. If it's no longer a problem, then there's no good reason not to lift it...and set the words free!

I'm leaving it up for now. Clicker's getting home in a few weeks, we'll turn it off then.
Shoni is moving up there pretty soon, though, and I think we may get another person or two interested in RP from up there. So we'll need to check it out on a yearly basis.
BTW, Fuck is censor tripper since it's a "porn word", while I REALLY, REALLY hope that Shit would not be. Dear Lord, I hope it's not.

Meh... Personally, I'm not too fond of censorship, but...
The problem is that often once you take it away, people use it so damn much that people simply can't stand those words anymore. Best example? High school freshmen who think they're so awesome by putting every cuss word in every single sentence that comes out of their mouth.
Now, don't get me wrong. "Shit," "fuck," "damn," "hell" (i feel like i'm missing something) are, more or less, a part of my everyday speech. I may only use them a couple times a day, I may use them a dozen times, but... I don't overuse them. Mostly, I use them to emphasize something or enhance a description of something (i.e. "that's a damn big gun!"), but mostly (idk in actuality. That's how I see me through my own eyes) I try not to go too heavy on the usage (although generally, I don't even pay attention to when I do or don't use them)

i say fuck and shit like every other sentence, but the difference between me and a middle school douchebag is that i don't really think they're special words so they're used nonchalantly as opposed to faux-rebelliously.

I strongly disagree, Shroud. Uncensoring "f*ck" isn't going to suddenly unleash some kind of cataclysmic F-armageddon ("Farmageddon" a potential solution to the Farmville menace? must ponder this) upon the boards. In fact, I'm prepared to bet that you've never actually seen that scenario happen and you just made it up because it sounded logical to you. It isn't. I'll write "f*ck" (with the asterisk) all I please; the reason I press for uncensoring it isn't because I've for some reason been holding out on F-bombs and once the censor's removed I'm just going to go crazy and start dropping them everywhere. The reason I press for uncensoring it is simply that the uncensored "f*ck" looks better and carries more effect in prose than the censored and that's all I care about. And "prose", as a reminder, includes RPs.
To put it another way, I'm not a stupid high school freshman juggling F-balls for attention. That's point number one. Point number two is that if I want to write a stupid high school freshman tossing F-darts for attention, I'd damn well like to be able to do that without the censor diluting my writing.

Whilst it may look better in an RP, that's about the only place. I'm utterly sick of seeing it every place I go to and I'm tired of hearing it too. I find it at least somewhat tolerable when it is censored and at times it can even be slightly humorous.

it has no meaning to me because i've abused it. therefore uncensor it because censorship is dumb when a word doesn't mean anything. like i understand censoring n*ggerfaggot, but oh look, i got away with it. trust me kiddos, if i wanted to be offensive as f*ck, a censor isn't going to change that one way or another. edit: ohno i didn't get away with. gosh darn it.

Well, unless you're directly asking me if that's how I feel, I don't know why you're saying that. What I said has nothing to do with the word losing it's meaning. That word will ALWAYS have meaning to me and it will always be a word that should not be said in my opinion. I'm typically quite tolerant of it, but I'm sick of the word being used so frequently. Seeing it censored makes it easier for me to tolerate it.
