Well, unless you're directly asking me if that's how I feel, I don't know why you're saying that. What I said has nothing to do with the word losing it's meaning. That word will ALWAYS have meaning to me and it will always be a word that should not be said in my opinion. I'm typically quite tolerant of it, but I'm sick of the word being used so frequently. Seeing it censored makes it easier for me to tolerate it. wait shit no look at this Whilst it may look better in an RP, that's about the only place. I'm utterly sick of seeing it every place I go to and I'm tired of hearing it too. I find it at least somewhat tolerable when it is censored and at times it can even be slightly humorous. Blood, do you really think we'll all abuse the word to the point that it has no meaning any more? I strongly disagree, Shroud. Uncensoring "f*ck" isn't going to suddenly unleash some kind of cataclysmic F-armageddon I may only use them a couple times a day, I may use them a dozen times, but... I don't overuse them.
I think the point everyone's trying to make is that no one here really overuses the f-bomb. The frequency argument strikes me as moot.

I think censoring words and not content is hypocritical and silly. You're telling me the thing you find most offensive in stories like mine and Biscuit's short little RP among the guys getting shot in the liver from a rooftop, police officers getting chunks of leg blown off by a handgun, and a dude laughing at emptying a machine gun into a bunch of guys with pistols was the "fuck" that he said talking to his partner? That kind of attitude has always irked me. I find it no different than the people who get uppity about Mark Twain books because his characters say "nigger" or people that say fuck and cunt and shit and faggot then go holy-roller when someone says goddamn around them.
Yeah, it sucks for the people that wouldn't be able to access the site in public places anymore but to block a word because it offends some people's sensibilities is ludicrous to me. Adapt to your environment if it won't adapt to you. If something offends you and you're inflexible in your standing on the matter, avoid it. People should be allowed to write as they please so long as it stays within legal bounds. Censorship only serves to take away the power of words. Yes, some words are offensive to people but when you start to censor some things you must respond to every sincere request for censorship or else you're only promoting your own point of view on the matter.
"As a Christian, I find the usage of 'goddamn' highly offensive and want it censored on this board." "Well as an atheist, I think praises to supernatural beings forces someone's beliefs onto another so I think religious references should be blocked too." "As a parent, all this sex and violence is too mature for my child to be viewing so anything over PG13 needs to be removed." "As an Arab-american, this character's xenophobic opinion that anyone from the Middle East is a terrorist is intolerable and I want it stopped immediately." "As a rape victim, the rape of this character was highly traumatizing to me so it should be taken down before it harms anyone else."
Shock for the sake of shock isn't offensive; it's bad story-telling. To censor a word isn't benevolent; it's autocratic.

lol, think of fucķ as more than a word. It's a tool and like any tool it can be used inappropriately. You give it to a bunch of high school kids and watch them miss use it, like weed, alcohol, fire arms, and many other things.
How ever, fucķ can be used appropriately by those who understand it and don't fear it. I agree with ninety, but I also believe censoring any word is wrong. I don't plan on telling my children things like that are bad words. I plan on teaching them how to appropriately use the words. When it is and isn't appropriate. Putting a "forbidden" label on something is just fearful and idiotic.

The issue is not about offending sensibilities, the issue is about member access. None of us are juvenile and tending to abuse the word. We've shed most of those elements at various points, so we've got a fairly mature crowd here.
The issue is access. Is the ability to say Fuck without censoring worth blocking multiple RPers from accessing the boards at school (considering it's a boarding school, it pretty much means no access.)? Granted, with Clicker it wasn't felt that badly, but Shoni and his brother will be in the boy's dorm, where you actually get internet access.
And for a week a year, the only way I can check in is through the school servers.
So, I say we turn the filter off for the Summer, after I get back from camp meeting. Then we turn it back on in September, after having somebody run a check to see if the swear still trips the filters.
And before you guys get into another debate: Yes, the school has the right to censor a word that is commonly used on pornographic sites. Considering that it's a (Christian) school full of minors, I'm pretty sure that letting them freely access porn on the school server would be SOME kind of issue.

Very distracting-looking. I keep thinking there are little specks on my screen. Not really an improvement as far as RPing/other prose is concerned.

Putting a "forbidden" label on something is just fearful and idiotic. Well phrased, sir. Well phrased. And also, by putting a forbidden label on something, it makes THAT much more likely for the word to be misused when they are not in an environment where that can be controlled. Hell, it's things like that that end up getting so many things out there to be abused and misused.

It is completely unfuckingacceptable to expect us to copy and paste that into every post where we want to use the word fuck
Also I have no fucking clue how to capitalize any of those letters in case I want to have a character say, like, "fuck the police" or whatever, so basically what the fuck Choobs this isn't going to fucking work.

That is the f*cking definition of art.
Oh, but see, there we go. Like, I can't even bring myself to go copy and paste the code to render that "f*cking", or this one, uninhibited. This extra step only hinders the hallowed flight of my creative genius's conjurings down onto the screen!

ok i'm going to change the censor. if anyone has issues, then balls in your face.
if anyone starts having access issues, i guess they can't tell me that they are having issues so i can switch back to asterisks, so call Lee or something and he'll yell at me.

here is an example of swearing that is overused to the point of no longer having meaning in definition but meaning in sound.
