I'm (I don't know what the better known term is) a naturalist, or a purist. I don't depend on held items and I don't typically teach them moves via HM or TM. If I do, it's to get through the game, nothing else.
Also, I don't EV train. Clearly I don't belong in "competitive" play, but oh well.

I was like that but now I'll teach them moves from the tutor or TMs/HMs. After all, they're able to learn it for a reason.

You're taking not taking it seriously pretty seriously. I think you could dial the defensive tone down a little. Sorry, my overall bitterness tends to leak into my sarcasm. I wasn't trying to be nearly as defensive as I sounded.

But as to teaching TM/HMs, I suppose you could acquire some pokemon that know those moves already and breed to transfer them Edit: although I can see your reasoning for not wasting TMs on ingame because it's so easy that it's not even necessary for anything other than battle tower or something like that.

Tim and I are going through battle tower, I mostly use Heracross, and Togekiss. Whereas he switches from Ambipom, Weavil, Scizor, and something else.

Well since it got lost in the shoutbox, I'll post this here.
I picked up Heart Gold again to find myself in the possession of a newly hatched paraflinching dunsparce, which was pretty great. Then whenever I used him, I ended up just using t-wave to set up a rollout sweep because i'm lazy.
Anyway, i'm thinking of swapping out onix and magmar for another damage blocker and another ___________ attacker. I have a technician scyther that's used for beating the shit out of things quickly, with a usual strategy of popping out scyther, u-turn for massive damage, switch in onix or slowpoke to take the hit, then finish. Then of course I have slowpoke who's using surf and zen headbutt on things. Then there's nidoking who has thunder and double kick until i get a better fighting move.
So yeah, thunder, wing attack, and double kick really take care of whatever it is that fire was covering beforehand, plus someone's learning fireblast/flamethrower in the near future. Also, the original plan was to evolve onix into steelix, but i don't have access to the wifis. Same deal with scyther, but then i decided that scizor was too powerful.
Any thoughts on who to swap in for the team? I'm about to hit ice cave, so I was thinking of picking up a swinub, but I had swinub when I played the original crystal, and he was mad legit, which kind of turns me off of using him again. Thinking about putting in pineco and then powerleveling him up to forretress, but forretress is OU tier, which also kind of turns me off.
Dunno really what my team lacks besides a really good ground or ice attack because i'm not intense at this game.

Well, that was a fun read. Now lets be jerks and poke some holes in this, shall we? 1) "The similarities between Venonat and Butterfree go beyond their similar color pallets and big red eyes...The show’s creators wanted Ash’s second Pokemon to be Caterpie, but they felt they could do little with Venomoth as Caterpie’s eventual evolution. Butterfree on the other hand had some big baby eyes, and would be easier for children to attach to." Well, yeah they look very similar. Perhaps that was what they wanted to do in the beginning. But there's a problem with the theory. In Japan the games were released before the animated series. I have no idea how much planning went into the game and the TV series at the same time, but I highly doubt they wanted this to be somn for kids to latch onto. Sure it has butterfly wings, but dang that thing is ugly. It looks kinda like some freaky alien. 2) Ok, yeah. They look a lot a like. Now this couldn't have been done to save time and resources now, could it? Maaaybe? Nah. After all, these look totally alike. 3) "Charizard’s fire spin can melt any material … except Pokemon." "If Lugia flaps its wings, it can cause a 40-day long hurricane" Ok, we don't really have much proof to go with this. Now there are some key words there; "can", "can". Now I have to say, I agree that it's doubtful that Charizards can melt ANY material, though I haven't seen any actual proof that it can't either. As to Lugia, we've seen the crap that this uber legendary can do. Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres can destroy the world practically just by existing (or at least they throw things out of balance according to Pokemon 2000), but it takes all three of them to really beat down Lugia. I have to say it seems pretty frickn' likely that it CAN cause a 40-day long hurricane. It just seems smart enough not to. 4)"In fact, the first reference to an Earthbound Pokemon World came out of Red and Blue. Remember that annoying Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island, the one with all those weird diaries on Mew and Mewtwo? Well, they reveal that the scientists who created Mewtwo found Mew in everyone’s favorite third-world country, Guyana." First off, the place where the games started was known as the Kanto region, and it looks quite suspiciously like the actual Kanto region in Japan. But we'll go one step beyond that and just pretend that Japan was transplanted to this other dimension and had to redo it's history. Remember this guy? This guy right here? His name is Lt. Surge. Lt. Surge is known as The Lightning American. Or at least that is what the sign outside his gym says. So, is America a mythological place? I guess that's not where the writer is from, evidently he's never heard of it. Though he remember Guyana. How many of you can even remember what continent it's on? (Hint: It is not Europe).

Shit, that's true, the games did come out first. I mean they could have already been anticipating producing a show though...
They just look so damn similar now that I've seen them together!

I can see Venonat being Butterfree and Cubone being a Kangaskhan. Venonat looks spot on for Butterfree and Cubone's skull does look a lot like Kangaskhan's. I read a different thing that explained their theory for Cubone waaaay better than this site. I don't remember how it went exactly, but it included the theory for how Missingno came about too.
Also, the writer mentioned other countries mentioned in the series; America included.

I've aquired the ROM, the emulator, and the codes to make the ROMs work. All I'm looking for is a patch to translate the ROM to english and then I'll be getting into the 5th generation ingame.
Competitive-wise, I'm staying in 4th gen for now, though.
Also, @biscuit: Bwahaha, that made my shitty day actually not too bad
