Ok, so I'm going to be hosting the next installment, and I have a couple of ideas I want to run past everyone beforehand. Here goes:
-An actual, pre-scheduled time for laps. You have something important to do on that day? No prob. Just tell me and I can try to adjust accordingly. This way everyone knows the exact time the next lap starts and everyone has a chance.
-Maybe I'll make you work for it. I'm thinking about maybe throwing in some trivia with it, just so people aren't just boring me with their VROOOOOOOM noises.
-Does anyone want this to be themed in the same way different installments of Mafia were?
-I think a good time to start this is in September, but if anyone thinks another time is better, please tell me.

Please elaborate on how I am doing it wrong, Lee.

-An actual, pre-scheduled time for laps. You have something important to do on that day? No prob. Just tell me and I can try to adjust accordingly. This way everyone knows the exact time the next lap starts and everyone has a chance. Now that idea, I do like. *high fives* Although... I don't quite see how it would really work, since the post race depends on eliminating whoever posts last (or doesn't post, in my case). But it would be interesting to see you work that out. -Maybe I'll make you work for it. I'm thinking about maybe throwing in some trivia with it, just so people aren't just boring me with their VROOOOOOOM noises. I'm pretty sure we were just following the rules... And besides, how is it a race if there is no some kind of engine noise? But perhaps, why not.

Well, see, Egor it still works because even if everyone shows up at exactly the time of the lap (they probably won't) someone is still going to post last. Actually, everyone posting within seconds of each other not only makes this quicker, but personally I think it would be more exciting.

*nods in approval* You have a point, ma'am.
However, considering how a lot of people (including me on some days) are active at random times and for unknown periods of time...well... I'm sure you'll find a way to pull that off somehow ^.^

The problem there is connection speed though. Doing it at random times makes it more likely for everyone to have a chance of getting in.
Otherwise if someone is having a really cruddy day on the internet because someone else in the house is hogging the whole thing, then they're just screwed.
Anyway, Post Race is supposed to be ruthless. It's not meant to be forgiving or be your best friend. To change it to work with people is to change the very nature of the race itself!

Let me try to respond for Lee because I'll bet I know what he meant by that image, and anyway this is a pretty dear issue to my heart as the creator of the Post Race. I'll be upfront about the fact that I definitely do not like the set lap time idea. I just... All right, see this? You have something important to do on that day? No prob. Just tell me and I can try to adjust accordingly. This way everyone knows the exact time the next lap starts and everyone has a chance. I would call this being too nice. You know what the motto of the Post Race is? ~ Fortuna lenta ~ Translated from the Latin, this timeless phrase means ~ Tough luck ~ Are you upset that you got eliminated when you were away from your computer? ~ Tough luck ~ Do you not want to get blown up like everyone else when you lose? ~ Tough luck ~ Is it your opinion that the host of the Post Race is bein' a total douchebag and a half? ~ Tough luck ~ Dun diddle-dun diddle-dun-dun-dunnn, that's the Post Race wa-a-a-ay. I know it's not a kind-hearted system, but this is the system I've made. It's like, I'm the founding fathers who set forth the Constitution with the dream of a red-blooded capitalist democracy, and your idea is the creeping socialism that threatens to mutate my nation into glorious Communist empire on the moon. (Oh, and I guess half my post count is owned by the Chinese. But that's a different story.) So, I'm sorry, but I'm totally not on board with the scheduled laps at all. The whole point of the Post Race is to be unstructured, unpredictable and unforgiving, in contrast with Mafia's (and my planned non-Mafia game's) clear procedural setup. Don't take that away from the poor thing! But I'll hurry to add that I do think themes are a great suggestion. I've always had the notion that they would eventually work their way into Post Races as they did in Mafia. Setting up a Post Race with a particular motif, depicting the track and the hazards with that same aesthetic, and asking for all entrants' vehicles to tie in somehow, would be fine with me. Whatever you can cook up. That's one -1 and one +1 so far. As for the "working for it" idea... I'd say my feelings are neutral (Lee: "That's my word!"). It's, again, a part of what I stressed in my original set of Post Race rules that any post content works as long as it gets you into the next lap. A single word, a single letter, a single grammatical mark, even a goddamned emoticon. On the other hand, if you wanted to include some kind of OPTIONAL sub-game for the chance to win extra EP, that would give you the opportunity to spice up the responses a bit while not compromising Post Race tradition. See what I mean? Keeping it optional means people will still be able to compete even if they have no interest in Googling to find out what Jimmy Page's favorite breakfast cereal is. EDIT: Looks like Blood ninja-edited his post to add a final paragraph that basically sums up my position, but better 'cuz it's more concise. Two points to Ulaich.

In order: it's still pretty ruthless with the set time, I am offended because I'm a proud leftist, Im glad you like the theme idea, and Jimmy Page's favorite breakfast cereal is cocaine washed down with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Everyone knows that.

Sorry 'bout offending you. Facebook told me your political views are socialist so I knew you would either be offended by or proud of my analogy. It was kind of a shot in the dark.
I stand by my statements though.

I'm not that offended. It's just that I hate how socialists are always the bad guys. Damn Soviets.
Points for the Jimmy Page thing though. Can we call it an official fad yet?

Once again, Blood: You're just jealous because Jimmy Page is(used to be) hotter than you, can play guitar way better than you, and can do enough heroin to kill six horses and still not die

What's there to be jealous of in any of that?
I have an amazing gf who's loves how I look, so I don't need to be any hotter than I am.
I don't want to play the guitar, I want to play the banjo
I don't like even prescription drugs, so the amount of heroin he can do only makes me shake my head that he actually does/did it.

You're boring
I have a boyfriend too, but I don't love him any less because he doesn't look like Jimmy Page. But if he did... well that's just gravy for me.
Oh, and you're also boring.

Actually I've only been off topic here when in response to your off topic stuff.
And I have to say. I LIKE the Post Race being unforgiving. I LIKE people getting blown up when they lose. I LIKE it being unpredictable.
After all. If everything is fair and nice, then it's not really much of a contest is it? The Post Race has a big prize for the winner, and with any endeavor, the greater the reward, the greater the risk.
Changing it to be nice is kind of like handing out free EP. Somn I'd really rather not do.

I don't like it at all. It's also irritating having to be online 24/7 waiting for the next lap. I have shit to do, guys.

If you're online 24/7 waiting for the next lap, I would like to delicately suggest that you might be taking the Post Race too seriously.

Also, there's another issue with scheduling laps. In our last Post Race we had a participant from the UK and a participant from the Western US, as well as from all the time zones in between.
Elliot has been in every Post Race thus far, and will likely continue to do so, and Cat seemed to have enjoyed this last race enough for me to be willing to bet she'll join the next one.
And as such, having a time that every racer can agree on will be very difficult without ostracizing potential racers from the group.

The scheduled thing, actually, is an inversion towards a similar end. If you inform them of the time, and then hold to it, it allows for a sudden "Wham-bam-biff" sort of thing. It does gain intensity, in exchange for losing the normal pacing.
The mercy thing? I don't like that. The scheduled laps could work, albeit in a weird way (Good idea on the EP for trivia, BTW, Photu.), but holding up the race for more than twelve hours for any group of people is too nice.
