"Very good, Espy. Now, how's about we get in some practice on your Zap Cannon?"
A regular day of training for Max, or at least, so he thought. As his ever-faithful Espeon began to charge up the energy for its Zap Cannon, the psychic Pokemon suddenly squealed, and the attack died before it could be launched.
That's odd, thought Max. Espy's never had that kind of trouble with Zap Cannon -- must be something else. "Espy, what's wrong?"
Espy's ears pricked up, as if it were listening for something in the distance, and it glowed a harsh blue. After a few minutes, the glow finally faded, and Espy began rushing around the area, using its psychic abilities to manipulate small rocks.
Finally, the rocks had been arranged to the catlike Pokemon's preferences, and it scratched a circle in the dirt around one of them.
What's Espy doing? thought Max, as he looked at the rocks. At first, it made no sense, then -- Aha! It's a map. Calling up the map function in his Pokegear, Max finally determined where Espy was pointing to. The circled rock represented a nearby small town, one that Max did not recognize.
Max showed the screen of the Pokegear to Espy. "Is this where you were talking about?" he asked, pointing to the town that seemed to be indicated by Espy's circle. Espy squealed a quick affirmative. "What's happening there?" Espy's only response was a questioning squeal.
Something major must be going on, or Espy wouldn't be nearly this upset, thought Max. "OK, Espy, let's go check it out." With that, Max grabbed a Pokeball from his belt and tossed it down in front of him. "Highfeather, come out!"
A bright flash of light burst from the Pokeball, and a few seconds later it had resolved to reveal a bird taller even than Max. "C'mon, Highfeather, we gotta get going, fast. Espy senses trouble."
That was all the loyal Pidgeot needed. After bending down to allow Max and Espy to get on, Highfeather wasted no time launching itself into the air, and flew in the direction Max indicated at impressive speeds.
Soon enough, Highfeather came in for a landing, not far from the town Espy had indicated. Even Max could see that something was wrong. Not only could he not hear any of the hustle and bustle a town like this should have at this time of day, but there was a bright, rainbow-colored dome over the entire town.
Max recalled Highfeather, then turned to look toward the mysterious town. Carefully, he approached the dome and reached out one hand to touch it. It was completely solid, and had none of the imperfections any physical surface this size would have to have. Some sort of energy field, then. But what could generate something of this size and strength? "Espy, what can you tell me?"
Espy went into a long series of squeals, detailing what it was now sensing from inside the barrier. As Espy finished, Max had to take several deep breaths while he digested the information. "I don't think we'll be able to handle this alone, Espy." With that, Max again pulled out his Pokegear, this time to open the e-mail function.
"Attaching map of current location," he typed. "Town covered by mysterious barrier, unable to penetrate. Unusually high concentration of Psychic Pokemon. All inhabitants apparently asleep. Need help." Flagging the message as urgent and attaching the map file, Max sent the message to an address which would then relay it to all Trainers in the area, and all Trainers on the sender's personal contact list.
Let's just hope someone answers, he thought. Anyone who would do something like this can't be up to any good. But what kind of plot could necessitate putting an entire town to sleep and establishing a barrier like this?

Alexxia was sprawled at the base of a tree, her hat tipped over her face to block out the sunlight. Her eyes were closed, but she was still wide awake. In her head, she was picturing her three Pokemon -- Combusken, Roselia and Poliwhirl. She imagined them making fluid and intricate movements that flowed into each other perfectly. Of course, she didn't have to imagine it; her Pokemon could make these movements anyway.
One of the Pokeballs that were resting in her hat suddenly expanded and opened, releasing the Pokemon inside. With a low growl, Combusken materialized beside Alexxia. Another flash, and Roselia appeared, sitting on her other side.
"Combusken, Roselia, what did I tell you about leaving your Pokeballs?" Alexxia scolded. Roselia kicked some dirt bashfully and Combusken put on his puppy-dog eyes. Alexxia laughed. "Oh, you know I can't resist those eyes. All right, you can stay out a bit."
Alexxia laughed again, and pulled her hat back down over her eyes. It wasn't that she didn't like the sun -- it just got her very warm and very sweaty, which she preferred to avoid. Roselia hopped on to Alexxia's stomach, then jumped from there onto Combusken's head, perching there to absorb the sun. In only a few seconds her flowers looked much more vivid than usual. Combusken sat there, cross-legged, a bright look on his face. He loved warm weather, though that was probably because he was a Fire type. Even so, nothing made him feel better. The bright sun blazing overhead, its heat hitting and warming the earth.
Alexxia's third Pokeball opened and released Poliwhirl. Alexxia pushed her hat up, smiling faintly. "Decided to join us?" she asked. Suddenly, the smile faded from her face when she saw Poliwhirl's expression. "What's wrong?"
Poliwhirl let out a series of incoherent "Poliwhirls" in rapid succession. Combusken and Roselia both looked at Poliwhirl, listening intently. Alexxia couldn't understand very well, but she could tell that whatever it was, it was bad news. Even more so if Poliwhirl could sense it from this distance. For miles around, Alexxia could see nothing... except for a faint glow on the horizon. Over, way over, a long distance, there was a small blob on the horizon, its colour contrasting with the blue sky.
"Poliwhirl, do you mean that?" Alexxia asked, pointing. Poliwhirl turned to look, and nodded. Alexxia stood up. "Looks like we're headed there. Roselia, need a lift?" Roselia grinned and hopped into Alexxia's hat. Alexxia looked back to the horizon, then glanced at Poliwhirl and Combusken. Combusken let out a low "buskennn..." and started sprinting over the grassland. Poliwhirl vanished, retreating back into his Pokeball. Alexxia ran after Combusken, her mind alive with wonders and questions about this blob.
As it turned out, it wasn't a blob. In fact, it was a dome. Alexxia examined it for a moment, thinking it through carefully. It was a barrier of some sort, though she couldn't figure out what was causing it or why.
She placed her hand on the barrier. It felt like she was touching a steel wall. It was solid, and so perfect. Not a single blemish or dent, nothing at all. She knocked on it. No sound. Then, she realised that she couldn't hear anything besides herself, despite the fact that there was a town inside.
Alexxia frowned and continued thinking, looking around. A little bit around the dome, she could see someone. Another person, with a Pokemon.
"Combusken, Roselia, let's go, he might know something," Alexxia said, approaching the male.
"Hi, I'm Alexxia. So what's happening here?"

"Not sure. Here's what I know so far. For some reason, everyone in town's asleep, there is an unusually high number of Psychic Pokemon in town, and this barrier's here. I don't know what's making the barrier, or why anyone would want to put a whole town to sleep. I doubt it's anyone up to any good, though. If we're going to find out, though, we're going to have to find some way past this barrier. I thought of digging, but Espy here tells me the barrier's actually a perfect sphere -- no going under. Oh, by the way, I'm Max -- Max Milen."
With that, Max returned to his thoughts. Well, we can't go under, we can't go over, and we can't go around. That only leaves one option -- we'll have to go through. But how? Max walked up to the barrier, and pushed against it. As he had expected, it didn't budge. Well, that's a bust. The barrier's being generated from inside the town, so I won't be able to shut it down from outside. Hm...
"Espy, try a Psybeam. Focus it on the barrier. Let's see if that helps." Espy looked dubious, but the jewel on its forehead began to glow, and soon a rainbow-colored beam of psychic energy was emitted, steadily beating away at the barrier. Max could tell that Espy was giving the attack everything it could, but it didn't appear to be doing anything.
"Good try, Espy, but -- " Espy cut Max off with a squeal before he could finish, pointedly aiming its tail at Max's belt. Worth a try, thought Max. He reached down to his belt, and removed 5 Pokeballs, tossing all of them down in front of him. Brilliant flashes were emitted, finally clearing to reveal a Pidgeot, a Magneton, a Dragonair, a Typhlosion, and a Kangaskhan.
"OK, guys, we need to get through this barrier. All of you, focus your attacks on the same spot Espy's hitting. Highfeather, Dragonair, Kangaskhan, you three use Hyper Beams. Quickflame, Flamethrower. Steelshock, Thunderbolt. Espy, keep up that Psybeam." Various sounds of acknowledgement were heard, and soon the various attacks were beating at the barrier. Max could see a small gap beginning to open. Gradually, it began to grow, but it was still too small for anyone to get through.
So close, but there's just not enough power yet. Only one option. "Alexxia, was it? Have your Pokemon focus attacks on the same spot mine are. It may be enough to open a hole in the barrier." Looking closely, Max could see that something was approaching the barrier, where the hole was opening. "Be on the lookout. One way or another, we're gonna have company soon."

"You couldn't be more right about that, Maxy boy!" a voice shouted from the distance.
From a nearby line of trees came a familiar image of a trainer with two of his prized Pokemon next to him. The young man was about nineteen years of age and wore a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His long strides pushed his long tan shorts and caused them to swirl around his legs. A mash of brown hair waved around his eyes as he strode closer to Max and Alexxia.
To the man's left floated a purple ghost that appeared to be no more than a head with a red necklace. The happy face of the creature seemed to give off a feeling of true joy while being frightening at the same time. On the man's right jogged a large teal lizard with a large tail. The shiny pokemon seemed to be a bit larger than a regular Pokemon of its same breed. It had a look of sly enjoyment on its face.
The man known as Val Armada had returned with two of his favorite Pokemon, Miss and Echo.
"I just happened to be in the area and I figured that now would be as good a time as any to meet up with you again. Then again, the message didn't hurt either. I see that you are in good health. Espy seems to be just as powerful as ever. I think that Agro would like to get a chance to face Espy again. So, lets see if I can give you enough of a hand to get into this dome thing. Let's go everyone!" Val called out as four Pokeballs flew from his hands.
In a monstrous flash of white light, Miss the Misdreavus and Echo the Sceptile were joined by the rest of the team. A soft yet powerful Flaaffy named Daya appeared in a shower of Cotton Spore. A small cloud of smoke appeared as Mojo the Slugma landed on the soft grass with a hiss. The most recent additition to the team, Moss the Shieldon, slammed into the ground and caused a small crater next to Echo. Finally, the oldest member of Val's team appeared with a small howl. Agro the Umbreon landed lightly on its feet and then glided over to Val and took his place of honor next to him. Agro had become a bit fussy lately so he was spending more time in his Pokeball.
"All right guys, here's the plan. We're helping Max and the gang with whatever we can from here on out until this barrier is down. First step is to take the thing out. Echo use Solarbeam, Miss use Psybeam, Daya use Charge Beam, Mojo use Flamethrower, Moss use your Ice Beam, and Agro, I want you to use your Dark Pulse. Take that barrier down as quickly as possible. I have a feeling that we need to save energy for whatever is in there." Val took a place next to Max as his Pokemon fired off at the wall.
"It's a shame that we couldn't have run into each other at a better time, huh?" Val joked softly.
OOC- Figured I would bring Val back for this topic because Max is back now. Good times.

"Huh, that's quite the siuation..." Alexxia said. She hopped back a bit, and watched as Max released his pokemon and had them attack, and then as another person arrived and followed suit. Alexxia nodded, Roselia hopping from her head, Combusken readying himself.
"Roselia, use Petal Dance, Combusken, Fire Spin!" Alexxia said, pointing at the hole. Roselia nodded and spun on the spot, pointing both of her flowers at the target and jumping into the air. Pink and lilac petals started flowing out of the flowers as Roselia seemed to just hover there. The petals floated almost peacefully over to the barrier, but as soon as they hit, they exploded like firecrackers. Combusken ran over so he was stood right underneath Roselia and breathed in deeply, his glands in his mouth secreting that flammable oil. He exhaled the air forcefully, the flames spreading from his mouth, creating a spiral shape as they progressed. The fire smashed into the barrier, burning in a circular shape as the fire spiralled.
"It's not enough... Poliwhirl, let's go!" Alexxia said. Without throwing or even touching the pokeball, Poliwhirl appeared in a flash, with a good grasp of what was happening already. He put his hands in front of him, the palm of his left hand resting against the back of his right. He closed his eyes, and his spiral started glow a pale blue colour rather than the standard black it should have been. A gust of wind flowed from his palm, followed by a whirlwind of ice and snow that shot at the barrier with the force of a missile. A perfect Blizzard attack.

OOC: Wow, three great RP'ers in one topic! Keep an eye out, people, just to make sure the world doesn't explode. BIC: "Later, Val. Later. Right now, we have bigger things to worry about," Max laughed. The hole in the barrier continued to expand. "It's working! C'mon, everyone, just a little more juice..." Somehow, some of the Pokemon seemed to find a reserve of extra strength, and the hole practically exploded outward, until it was more than big enough for any of the assembled trainers and Pokemon to go through. "OK, everyone! Let's move!" Max practically ran through the hole in the barrier, recalling his Pokemon as he went, other than Espy. The psionic cat darted in right behind Max. Finally, Max stopped a few feet beyond the barrier, and observed. Strangely, the hole in the barrier was staying exactly as it was; Max had been planning to re-release his Pokemon on this side of the barrier to resume their efforts if it didn't. "Everyone, cease fire, and get over here!" Finally, Max was able to catch his breath. He smiled. "Oh, and Val? Nobody calls me Maxxy boy." OK, so let's recap, thought Max. We have this strange barrier, strong enough to take the attacks of 15 Pokemon to open a hole wide enough to step through. Everyone in town is asleep, but whatever did that apparently hasn't hit me yet. We also have all these Psychic Pokemon roaming around. That being the case, we'd better be ready for battle. Something tells me whoever's behind this already knows we're here, and is on their way to do something about it.

OOC- Just for your information, Valon is my ORP character, this is just Val.
BIC- Val recalled all of his pokemon except Miss and Agro and began into the barrier opening that they had just created. The mass of that barrier made Vals jaw drop. Something or someone was trying to shield this town from the outside world and they had to be extremely powerful. Vals lighthearted mood began to revert back to his old stern manner as Miss seemed to sense all the psychic pokemon in the area. They hair on Agros back began to stand on end as the mass grouping of psychic energy hit his senses. Val made eye contact with each of his pokemon and then looked down towards the town.
"There's something close, Agro is extremely tense. How could something like this happen? My studies always told me that Psychic pokemon perfered to be around active people because their brainwaves are more active. It just seemes to be bad news to me. Miss, Agro, stay on guard. Max, lead the way."

OOC: Noted. I've made the edit in my post. Also made one other minor edit, which should not affect anything from your post.
BIC: "Agreed. Espy, now that we're in, maybe you can get us a clearer reading on what's going on here." As Espy's psychic powers caused it to take on a harsh blue glow, Max didn't even try to hide his worry; such an effort would surely have been doomed. Val was right -- Psychic Pokemon didn't tend to stick around sleeping people for this long, at least not on their own. That could mean only one thing -- these Psychic Pokemon couldn't be wild.
Finally, Espy began a series of squeals. Max listened intently, then began to translate. "Espy says there are literally dozens of Psychic Pokemon roaming the streets. Various varieties. A lot of Hypnos, Alakazams, Gardevoirs, Mr. Mimes. Some Slowbros, Slowkings, Exeggutor, even a Grumpig or two. But that still doesn't explain what they're all doing here, or why they put the town to sleep."
"Ya really want to know, kid?" The voice made Max jump. A sinister-looking man in a black outfit had apporached while Max had been watching Espy. He was closely followed by three other people, all dressed in similar outfits. "'Fraid you'll be disappointed. Impressive work, getting past our barrier, but this is as far as you go! Guys, let's get 'em! Grumpig, Exeggutor, Solrock, Slowking, teach this intruder a lesson!" As he said this, he tossed a number of Pokeballs down to the ground, each one emitting a harsh red flash of light.
Wordlessly, the other assailants all followed suit. As the flashes resolved, Max's eyes darted over the battlefield. Well, now, this is a problem, he thought, as he finished his count. Three Grumpigs, three Exeggutor, two Slowking, two Slowbro, an Alakazam, a Girafarig, a Solrock, two Gardevoir, and a Xatu. 16 total. Max tossed down every Pokeball he was carrying, revealing his array of Pokemon.
Even with all of my, Val's, and Alexxia's Pokemon, we're outnumbered, and these Pokemon are not small fry. And even if we do get past these, there'll be more before we're done here. "Val, Alexxia, we're going to need every Pokemon you've got! Follow my lead!"
A quick glance over the battlefield, and Max began forming his battle plan. "Highfeather, Dragonair, you two will provide air support. Focus on dividing their attention and avoiding their attacks. Use whatever moves you think will work, but don't get cocky. Dragonair, remember your type alignments. Both of you, watch out for Xatu. Espy, try to stay on the outside, and use Shadow Balls. If you get a good shot on a Slowking, Slowbro, or that Xatu, Zap Cannon. Remember, Shadow Ball won't affect Girafarig. Quickflame, your main targets are those Exeggutor. Watch out for the Slowking and Slowbro. Steelshock, do what you can, but watch the Exeggutor -- you won't be able to do much to them. Kangaskhan, get in there and do what you do best. Don't let yourself get surrounded. Got it? Good. Now, let's do it!"
As his Pokemon began their maneuvers, Max turned to Val. "Looks like that rematch between Agro and Espy will have to wait a while. What say we take care of these punks?"
OOC: Permission to auto the opposing Pokemon is hereby granted; just remember that these Pokemon are NOT pushovers.

"And live out some old adventure from the good old days? Anytime bud, let's show them how this is really done. Let's go everyone!" Val called out as he tossed out the remaining pokeballs he had.
In a flash Echo, Mojo, Moss, and Daya appeared in battle poses. Val stepped forward and took his place in the center of the group followed by Miss and Agro. A look of anger appeared on Vals face as he clenched his fists in anger. Nothing mad Val more angry than people using pokemon for their own selfish goals. There is not such thing as an evil pokemon, just an evil trainer. Val used his pokemon as partners and more importantly as friends and that's how he wished the whole world was. Val looked down at the ground for a second to gather his bearings and then his plan went into action.
"Echo, you're with Kangaskhan. Make sure that you keep your Detect on tap so that you don't take a bad hit from behind. Moss, I want you and Mojo to help out Quickflame. Moss use your Ice Beam and Mojo use Flamethrower. If you seen Xatu, make sure it gets a nice Ice Beam for it's trouble. Daya, focus on those Slowking and Slowbro with Thunderbolt or Charge Beam. If someone gets to close use your Signal Beam at full power. Miss, across from Espy and use your Ominous Wind and Shadow Ball when you see is nessary. Agro, I want you in the middle using your Faint Attack and Dark Pulse as much as possible. Everyone mind the other pokemon. Only take out the Psychic pokemon they tossed out. Take it to them hard!" Val called out.
"This might get hairy Max, keep your eyes open. I know our pokemon can handle themselves, but I don't know if Alexxia's pokemon have had the same kind of experence that ours have had. We've been fighting these kind of people for years, but I think this is a new situation for her. Her pokemon are strong, but just keep an eye out just in case." Val said low in his normal stern tone. He worried about trainers he didn't know in these kind of situations, but so far had never been disappointed.
OOC- I'll post some results of attacks after we have Pyro post.

"Calling me inexperienced, eh..." Alexxia muttered to herself. "Well, we'll just have to prove them wrong."
"Alright, Combusken, Roselia, Poliwhirl, let's go!" Alexxia said strongly. Her three pokemon, nodded, and immediately started their attacks. There was one thing about Alexxia's pokemon. Above all else, they had been trained to work together, just as well as they had individually, if not even better. They fought as one, covering each other's strengths and weaknesses perfectly. If one of them was injured, the other two would protect the hurt one until it could fight again. Alexxia had prided her pokemon on their amazing teamwork capabilities.
Combusken had attacked first, jumping up and kicking a Solrock, then kicking off the rock-psychic-pokemon, norrowly passing a psybeam that was thrown in his direction. Poliwhirl ran underneath Combusken, hands placed together to catch the fire type. Combusken landed, then jumped off Poliwhirl's hands high into the sky, releasing a Fire Spin at the ground, catching at least three psychic pokemon in the fire, though not doing massive amounts of damage. Roselia ran forwards, hopped on to one of Poliwhirl's hands, then on to his head and jumped up, not very high but still high enough. She spun in the air, a number of razor-like leaves falling from her flowers, glowing with an ever-shifting glow. The leaves all scattered, moving like bullets at the surrounding pokemon. Poliwhirl caught Roselia and place her on his head, then spun on the spot, releasing sheets of water around him that pushed the psychic types back. Combusken landed right in front of Poliwhirl, crouching.
"Good job, guys," Alexxia said, smiling faintly.

OOC: Sorry to take so long to reply. Let's keep up the post quality, guys -- I'm loving how this is going!
BIC: "Don't relax yet, Alexxia," Max chided, somehow keeping a smile on his face despite the stressful situation. "Keep it up -- we're just getting started." With that, Max turned to continue surveying the battle. Attacks were being launched from and in many directions; it was difficult to keep track of what was going on. Max could do little more than note events, as if in snapshots. Dragonair, deftly dodging an Ice Beam from a Slowking, then countering it by sending down a devastating Thunderbolt; Kangaskhan, intercepting a Flamethrower from Solrock that had been aimed at Echo, then smacking the sun-shaped Pokemon with an Iron Tail; Miss and Espy, pelting an opposing Pokemon with Shadow Balls from opposite directions, frustrating their attempts to evade.
The battle was going well for the trio of trainers. Alexxia's Pokemon were displaying a level of teamwork within themselves that Max found quite impressive. Meanwhile, Val had easily fit his Pokemon into Max's overall strategy; as Max had hoped, much of the focus of the assailants' Pokemon had been drawn to one or another of the small groups his and Val's Pokemon had formed.
Max couldn't help worrying, though -- both Combusken and Roselia were weak against psychic attacks, and with this many Pokemon against them, they would not be able to dodge forever. He continued to watch anxiously; at this point, there was not much else to do. Suddenly, he heard it -- a familiar, anguished roar. "Val, Quickflame's down!" he called, recalling the fainted fire-type. Apparently, two of the water-types had teamed up to blast it with water attacks, and Quickflame had already been too tired to be able to dodge effectively. Steelshock, seeing Quickflame returning to its ball, had figured out the same thing, and had already gained its revenge by pelting a Slowking with a close-range Thunder attack, evening the score; however, the damage had been done. Guess it's not just Alexxia I should not be worried about, thought Max.

"Combusken, Roselia, Fire Leaf combination!" Alexxia shouted. Despite what her pokemon might have anyone else believe, Alexxia did not get into many battles. She trained and trained, but it was very rarely against other trainers. She seized every opportunity to use her pokemon's combinations attacks whenever she could. "Poliwhirl, cover them with your Ice Beam!"
Combusken hopped back and picked up Roselia, holding the grass-type tight in his arms and springing into the air, inhaling deeply as he went. Quickly, he threw Roselia above him, and dropped to the ground again, but immediately shot back up. While Combusken was rising again, Roselia spun in the air, releasing thousands and thousands of razor-like leaves in the air. Combusken grabbed Roselia at the peak of his jump, spinning as he did so, releasing all the inhaled air back out as a jet of fire. The fire caught the all the leaves, setting them alight and sending them shooting at the psychic pokemon.
Alexxia gave a small grin, but it was immediately wiped away when she saw an Alakazam rise from the ground and throw a ball of dark energy right at the descending pair. Combusken twirled in the air and held Roselia closely, protecting the grass type and taking the brunt of the attack. Combusken and Roselia landed near Poliwhirl, who had just fired off an Ice Beam at the Alakazam, successfully freezing its spoons and one of its legs. "Roselia, Magical Leaf! Poliwhirl, Ice Beam! Make a protective shell!" Alexxia shouted. Roselia leapt on to Poliwhirl's head and started releasing leaves around the three of them, holding them in a dome shape. Poliwhirl extended both hands and started releasing the chilly energy, freezing the leaves and using them as a frame for the ice dome. Quickly, the three of them had been covered by an ice barrier.
"With any luck, the psychic pokemon will have a hard time breaking through that, and Combusken might be up again..." Alexxia muttered to herself.

"On it Max. Daya, get in there with your Screech and then once you get them off guard hit them with a Thunder at full power!" Val called out
Daya didn't think twice at Val's order and rushed forward making a super loud screaming sound. The water types gripped their ears a tightly as possible and cringed at the shrill noise that Daya was making. Daya had always had a powerful Screech, but had used it very little until she evolved. The noise seemed to echo within the barrier as Daya settled her lungs and began to charge up a massive amount of electric energy in her wool. With a loud cry the waves of blue electricity washed over the area and rendered the water types useless. Their large frames hit the ground with a thud and then were recalled by their trainers. Daya soon followed suit, not being used to using so much energy had caused her to faint. Val recalled Daya and kissed her ball softly in thanks for her efforts.
"Alright, I'm sick of these psychic pokemon! Echo, Agro, Miss, Moss, Mojo...It's time for the Phantom Bullet!" Val cried out as his pokemon began to react as if they knew this was coming.
Mojo was first to react as he laid down a thick layer of Smokescreen around the area as the other pokemon gathered behind him. Agro took a place on Echo's shoulder and began building up a Dark Pluse while Moss and Miss took a place in Echo's arms. In a single fluid motion everything came together. From the smoke created by Mojo came a black bullet aimed straight at the farthest pokemon away fromt it, Alakazam. The bullet was comprized of Moss using an Iron Head, the Dark Pulse that Argo had created, and Miss firing Shadown Balls off in every direction around Moss as they flew together, propelled by Echo using a Strenth attack. The Phantom Bullet flew at an unreal speed and smashed into Alakazam like a cannon ball hitting the broad side of a ship. Alakazam crumpled to the ground and fainted, but the same could not be said about all of the other pokemon. Val looked at his pokemon with a sense of pride that they were fighing so well and then the fact that they were still in the middle of a battle sunk in again.
"Max, looks like the numbers are in our favor, but we are still not out of the woods yet. Shall we finish this up quickly? I'm not sure how much longer my pokemon are going to keep up the fight without a bit of a rest." Val said as he reverted back to his stern self.
OOC-Let's go! Sorry for the missing post for the past couple of days. Works been killing me.

OOC: No problem. And, I must say, impressive post.
BIC: "10-4, Val," replied Max. He surveyed the battle again, focusing mainly on his own Pokemon and the opposing psychics. Only Quickflame had been taken down so far, though it looked like Highfeather and Kangaskhan would be joining it on the sidelines soon if this went much longer.
The opposing Pokemon weren't doing nearly so well. Already, Max had a number of confirmed KO's -- two of the Exeggutor from Alexxia's firey asssault and subsequent attacks; all of the Slowking and Slowbro from the efforts of Steelshock, Dragonair and Daya; Solrock from Kangaskhan's Iron Tail, plus the efforts of Alexxia's Pokemon; Alakazam from Val's all-out team attack; one of the Gardevoir from the combined efforts of Espy and Miss.
Max gave another quick scan of the opposing Pokemon. The three Grumpigs were all still going, though it looked like each had taken a Shadow Ball or two at the least. Girafarig was nowhere to be seen; apparently, it had been KO'd without Max seeing. One Gardevoir was still around, though it looked pretty weak. The remaining Exeggutor seemed to be on its last legs -- one good attack would finish it, no question. Xatu had apparently been KO'd by something -- no surprise, with the number of attacks the trio had to deal with it and the number of Pokemon that had been specifically watching for it.
Now, Max took stock of his own Pokemon. Highfeather was still going, but it was looking a little sluggish; apparently, it had taken an Ice Beam or two. Dragonair had apparently been doing a bit better at dodging; it had clearly taken at least one significant hit, but was still going strong. Kangaskhan had been in the middle of everything, so had been taking a number of hits. It was a sturdy Pokemon, but wouldn't be able to keep going much longer if Max kept it out. Steelshock looked like it had barely been touched. Espy was also still doing well; Max couldn't even see any signs that it had taken a hit. Max smiled at that; Espy had always been particularly good at defensive maneuvers, in addition to having plenty of offensive power.
"Kangaskhan, Highfeather, return!" Max called, and within seconds each had been reabsorbed into its Pokeball. "Dragonair, finish off that Exeggutor with a Flamethrower. Steelshock, you take Gardevoir -- shouldn't take more than another Thunderbolt. That'll just leave the Grumpigs. You guys know what to do with them. Got it? Good. Go!"
The Pokemon immediately moved into the modified battle plan. Mere seconds later, Exeggutor and Gardevoir had been finished off; Max's estimate of what they could take had been right on. Now, it was just the Grumpigs, against all of the assembled Pokemon. They were sturdy Pokemon, but Max knew that not even they would be able to stand up for long under the focused assault they were about to endure.
The opposing trainers looked chagrined; they obviously had not been expecting to go up against trainers of this caliber in their guard duties, and now they were seeing their Pokemon drop like flies. From 16 Pokemon against 15, they were now down to 3 against 12. One reached up, a Pokeball in hand, but one of his teammates slapped it down. The message was clear -- they were in this until the last Pokemon fell.
As Max turned his gaze back to the battle at hand, Espy and Steelshock were just finishing taking out one of the Grumpig in a combined assault, and Dragonair was just launching a Surf attack to weaken the remaining two. "Alexxia, care to do the honors?" called Max, chuckling a little.

Combusken sat up, eyes still closed, looking exhausted. Roselia heard the movement, and turned to see Combusken awake, though apparently still groggy. She closed her eyes and brought her two flowers together, focusing for a moment, then releasing a sweet aroma from her rose petals. The aroma filled the ice dome, awaking Combusken who was on his feet in seconds. Poliwhirl looked at Combusken for a moment, then saw that he was fine and relaxed slightly. Combusken took a quick note of his surroundings, then started inhaling, shooting Poliwhirl a warning glance. Poliwhirl nodded and grabbed Roselia, holding her tightly in his arms to protect her as Combusken readied his attack.
Alexxia looked at the ice, feeling tense. Suddenly, the ice started glowing. It had changed colour, no longer white, it was turning yellow, then orange, then red. Alexxia thought for a moment, then realised what was happing and shielded herself immediately. The ice dome exploded, sending ice firing out in all directions. Combusken stood, ready for the next round of attacks. Poliwhirl said something to Combusken, who nodded and jumped behind the water type. Poliwhirl immediately curled up into a perfect ball and glowed for a moment, a Defense Curl. Combusken jumped back again, his right foot glowing, a pale aura appearing around it. The chicken pokemon shot forward, and kicked Poliwhirl powerfully, sending him flying like a football. A football traveling faster than any football should.
Poliwhirl smashed right into one of the Grumpigs, which staggered over and fell in to the other Grumpig, knocking them both to the floor. Combusken ran to Roselia and threw the grass type high into the sky. As she ascended, her roses changed colour, from blue and pink to white and glowing, like someone had replaced her flowers with 4000 watt lightbulbs. Roselia reached the peak of her ascent, and aimed both of her roses at the two Grumpigs, which were staggering to their feet. A white beam shot from her flowers and smashed right into the two Grumpigs before they could recover fully, pounding them into the floor. A SolarBeam attack. Combusken shot up as Roselia's attack stopped, caught the grass type and landed smoothly. The two Grumpigs were on the floor, collapsed.
"How's that for teamwork, eh?" Alexxia said, smiling faintly.

"Very impressive," said Max. Quickly, he turned to the four trainers -- If you can call them trainers, he thought -- and allowed himself a fierce glower. "Now, then. This is the part where you tell me what's going on here. Why the barrier's here, why the town's asleep, and why there are so many psychic Pokemon around."
"You're kidding, right?" replied one of the trainers, apparently the leader of the quartet. "C'mon, guys, let's get out of here!" He and the others wasted no time turning to run, recalling their fainted Pokemon as they did.
"Not so fast, there," Max called, his voice completely calm. "Dragonair, how's about slipping 'em up a bit?" Dragonair launched a pure blue beam in front of the fleeing trainers, turning the street in front of them to ice. Max didn't even bother to hold back a chuckle as all four trainers found their feet slipping out from under them, landing on their backs with a thud.
"Thanks, Dragonair. Now, then, Dragonair, Steelshock, retu --" Before Max could finish his sentence, Dragonair began to glow a fierce white. It can't be, thought Max. Can it? Sure enough, it was. Soon, all that was showing of Dragonair was a bright light, which slowly shaped itself into a more human-like, winged dragon, with a long tail. The newly evolved dragon landed beside Max, towering above the Safari Ranger. "Congratulations... Dragonite," said Max. "Now, then, what say you and Steelshock take a little rest for now?" Dragonite nodded, and soon it and Steelshock had returned to their Pokeballs in a beam of red light.
Max again turned to the defeated trainers, who were struggling ineffectively to rise to their feet. "Well, Espy, what say we help them up?" said Max, allowing his voice to take on a slightly sinister tone. Espy nodded, and soon the four mystery men were bathed in a soft blue aura, rising into the air. Gently, they were guided to the ground between Max and the ice. They slowly rose to their feet, but this time made no move to flee.
"Now, this had better be the last time I have to ask you this," Max growled. "Explain the barrier, the sleeping townspeople, everything -- unless, of course, you'd like to see what Espy here can do to someone when it isn't trying not to hurt them?"
The trainers shivered. Finally, the ringleader spoke up. "Awright, fine. Da boss found sumpin' here in town, says it gives psychic Pokemon a real kick. Wants to use it to give us an edge. 'Course, da townspeople had other ideas. Bit o' Hypno Hypnosis shut them up but good. Set up da barrier ta make sure nobody get in the way 'fore we figure out how to move this thing. 'Course, you had to bust on in and get in da way."
"Looks like he neglected to give your Pokemon the boost. Either that, or this thing isn't all it's cracked up to be."
"Didn't think we needed it. 'Sides, we're out of range. Dat's why da boss is tryin' to get the thing moved. If we're real lucky, he might even figure out how to make more of it. Dat's all I know, I swear!"
"Don't count your chickens. Now, get out of here before I change my mind. Espy, help them past the ice." Espy nodded, and the trainers were lifted above the ice, slowly moved past it, and set down gently.
As soon as the trainers were out of sight, Espy turned to Max, and squealed questioningly. Max's expression softened, and he bent down to one knee, looking into the faithful Pokemon's eyes. "Don't worry, Espy. That was just an act. I know you'd never hurt anyone, even if I asked you to, and I wasn't actually going to ask. Just wanted them to think that." Espy sighed in relief. "Now, why don't you see if you can figure out where this object they were talking about, is? I'm going to guess it's somewhere near the center of town."
With that, Max reached into a pocket and pulled out a Pokedex, opening it and connecting to the computer storage area where Max kept the rest of his Pokemon. Taking Quickflame's Pokeball from his belt, Max punched a quick command into the Pokedex, and the Pokeball vanished. A few seconds passed, and another Pokeball materialized in Max's hand. Max stepped over to Alexxia, holding out the Pokeball.
"Here, you'll need this Pokemon. It's a Sableye. Be careful, though, it's a practical joker. I think you can handle it, though. Good luck -- we're going to need it."
With that, Max again turned his eyes to his Pokedex, and began putting in a more complex command, logging Sableye's change of ownership and getting Absol from his storage area. As the Pokeball appeared, Espy gave a loud squeal.
"You found it?" An affirmative squeal. "Report." Espy launched into a long series of squeals. As it concluded, Max briefly caught his breath, then turned to Alexxia and Val. "Espy says our target is in the center of town, but there's a lot of trainers about. Too many for us to fight. If we travel together, we'll probably be seen. I recommend we take different routes towards the center of town. I'll go by air. See you there. Whatever you do, don't get foolhardy." With that, Max called out Highfeather, and the two took to the air on a direct path toward the center of the city.

"Well that went just about as well as I figured it would. Things never seem to change with the baddies. Oh well, return everyone." Val stated as he recalled every one of his pokemon but Moss and Agro.
Val knew that none of his pokemon could get him into the city undetected except Moss, but something extreme had to be done in order for it to happen. Val dug in his bag and found a small golden box which he promply opened. Inside were tiny blue wrapped items that looked to be some sort of treat. Val grabbed a couple and unwrapped them. Moss looked up at his trainer in a confused manner as Val offered the treats to him, but Moss was not one to turn down an offer by his trainer so he gladly at them. Inside Moss' body the treats began to dissolve and enter his blood stream. The unique amino acids began to bond with the existing DNA and made Moss stronger. In a flash of bright light Moss began to twist and change into something that was nearly triple the size. The once smooth, leathery face that Moss had began to sprout long, steel-like horns and teeth. His crest grew, his body got thicker and his appearance became more intimidating. Moss had become a Bastiodon.
“Moss, I’m sorry that I had to make you evolve like that, but I had too. Can you forgive me?” Val asked as Moss simply replied with a nod and a light ‘Bastio’.
“Alright, can you use your Dig and get us under the center of town? Agro, I want you to use your Flash to light the way. Let’s do it guys.” Val said as his newly evolved Bastiodon began ram the ground at full force.
“Alexxia, you are more than welcome to join us.” Val said as he and Agro began into the tunnel.

"Thanks for the offer, but I'll make my own way," Alexxia said, attaching the new pokeball to her belt. A Sableye. She pondered the pokemon for a moment, but quickly determined that getting to know this pokemon now would not be the best move she could make. She held up two pokeballs, returning Poliwhirl and Combusken, but keeping Roselia out. "Roselia, we have to get to the centre of the city. Running is our best bet, but there are trainers about and I'm sure you don't wanna repeat of that last fight," she said, lifting Roselia into her hat. Roselia nodded, and made herself comfortable yet alert in the hat. Alexxia would have nodded if she hadn't feared dropping Roselia. She set off, running into a back alley and making her way to the city centre.

OOC: Sorry to keep you guys waiting!
BIC: "Ungh!" Max grunted as Highfeather executed a quick turn to avoid an oncoming Hyper Beam. This was not the first -- almost since takeoff, various attacks had been launched at Highfeather, although the nimble bird had dodged each one without a scratch. Of course, they would know we were in the city by now, thought Max. Between all the psychic Pokemon, and those four nimrods, I'm surprised they haven't gotten me yet. "Espy, how are the others?"
Espy glowed a harsh blue for a few seconds, than began a short series of squeals. Max listened intently, then nodded. "Had a feeling Val wouldn't have anything to worry about, taking the low road like that, but you better warn Alexxia that she may have company soon. Can you do that from here?" Espy squealed an affirmative, then began to glow lightly as it sent its message to Alexxia.
Only moments after the message was sent, Espy suddenly squealed in surprise, and launched a Psybeam attack more quickly than even Max would have thought possible. It impacted on something ahead -- a barrier. Highfeather, seeing the impact, quickly turned in midair to avoid a collision.
Something familiar about that barrier, thought Max. "Espy, where's it coming from?" Espy squealed, and pointed its tail. "Well, Highfeather, change of plans. Turn to 5 o'clock, and land on the first roof you can." Highfeather chirped, turned, and came in for a landing. As Max had suspected, there was someone else already on the roof -- a trainer, with a Mr. Mime. He looked infuriatingly familiar.
"Cal Mazone, you no-good rotten snake!" Max growled. "Well, well, imagine meeting you here. I should have known it would take someone of your moral caliber to be in on this."
"I'm flattered, but you got it all wrong," replied the poacher. "I'm not in on anything."
"Well, now that that's settled," Max replied dubiously, "how about giving me back the Pokemon you took from me?"
"That little waterbug wasn't worth the effort. I don't even have it anymore, and I don't care what happened to it. But as for that Beedrill, I'll be keeping it."
"You will, will you? That's rich. Espy, Shadow -- "
"Now, now, is this really the time? Oh, I'll fight you if you insist, but then, the commotion will probably attract our new friends. Are you really willing to give up what little element of surprise you have left, just to settle an old grudge with me?"
Max growled, but he realized that Cal was right. Now was not the time. "Very well, you little rat -- but why have that Mr. Mime block my way?"
"What, a guy can't just say hello? Actually, I was just testing my newest Pokemon's capabilities. Running into you was an unexpected bonus. Whoops, I better get out of here. Mr. Mime, Teleport us out of town." Mr. Mime, apparently with some reluctance, pantomimed taking off a top hat and taking a bow, then it and Cal disappeared.
"You mark my words, Mazone -- we will meet again, and next time, I'll be taking back what's mine!" Max growled, mostly to himself. "Highfeather, let's get moving. We've got bigger fish to fry."
Moments later, Max, Espy and Highfeather were again airborne, continuing their course towards the center of the city. Max, of course, was still fuming, and Espy especially could tell -- but there were things to do, and Max intended to make sure they got done.

Alexxia flattened herself against the wall, in the darkest shadow she could, turning her head sideways so that her hat was no protruding the shade. A person walked right past her, obviously suspicious of the area, but he could not see anything out of the ordinary so he continued his patrol. Alexxia turned her head to see him walking off, then jumped from the shadows and started running again, her eyes peeled for any other trainers. She stopped dead when she heard a voice in her head, warning her about trainers around.
"Bit slow there, Max..." She thought, snapping back to reality. "HEY! You there!" Alexxia heard someone behind her shout. She winced, then tapped the bottom of her hat. Roselia jumped up from the hat and spun in the air, landing on the crown of the blue hat, rose leaves aimed forward. A series of razor-like leaves shot from the blue and pink petals, like bullets, fired at the man. The man dodged to the side and threw a pokeball, releasing a Starmie. Alexxia heard Starmie's familiar cry and spun on the spot, to see a Starmie with an amethyst core. She frowned, Starmie cores were usually a pink-red colour. What on earth could have changed its colour?
"Roselia, Sunny Day," Alexxia said. Roselia nodded, and jumped from the hat into the air, both roses glowing their respective colours. The grass type released a beam of light from both petals which cut to the sun, making it release waves of heat and light powerfully. Roselia landed, a distinct glow to her, the sunlight giving much more energy. She gave a sly grin and aimed both of her roses at Starmie, releasing those razor-like leaved again, this time they were glowing with an ever shifting glow, a Magical Leaf attack. The leaves all smacked into Starmie, but barely left a scratch. Alexxia frowned. Was the different coloured gem a sign of strength? "Roselia, be careful! That thing's a lot stronger than a normal Starmie!" Alexxia warned, her voice sounding slightly concerned. Roselia nodded, and waited for the Starmie to attack.
Starmie's core glowed yellow, and the starfish pokemon suddenly discharged a great deal of electricity. Roselia's arms jerked, and she jumped into the air, only to be met by Starmie's tackle attack that knocked her back to the ground. The Starmie was faster too. "Roselia, try to slow it down!" Alexxia yelled. Roselia hopped back up on to Alexxia's hat, and pointed both of her roses at Starmie, suddenly spraying a golden powder all in front of her. It floated gently down to earth, but clung to Starmie, restricting its movement. Roselia raised her roses slightly, and the powder clung to the man as well. "Nice one, Roselia, let's go," Alexxia said, Roselia hopping back into her hat. The trainer turned on the spot and continued running to the centre of the city, juding her direction from Max's movements in the sky.

OOC: Whoa, two weeks... sorry, guys. For the record, I hate summer classes.
BIC: As he continued his flight toward the center of the city, Max could feel strange, strong waves of energy, apparently coming from his destination. Max concentrated, intending to use this as a way to more accurately find a way to his target. Suddenly, Espy squealed as if in pain.
"Highfeather, land now!" Max ordered urgently. Highfeather wasted no time coming to a landing on an empty rooftop. Max and Espy climbed off, but Max could see that Espy appeared to be struggling against... something. No way this is a coincidence, thought Max. "Espy, are you all right?" he asked, his voice filled with worry.
For a few seconds that felt like an eternity, Espy did not answer. Finally, Espy answered not with "words", but by urgently pointing its tail at its Pokeball. Max puzzled over this for a few seconds, before finally realizing what that one gesture meant. Taking the Pokeball from his belt, Max wordlessly recalled Espy.
Espy was being affected by... whatever it is we're after, thought Max. I can't risk him any closer to it; I'll have to use a different Pokemon. With that, Max pulled out his Pokedex, again opening the link to his personal Pokemon storage account. Sending Espy into the computerized storage system, Max carefully looked over the list of Pokemon he had available. Looks like Tyrant's my best bet here, he thought, tapping in the command to retrieve the powerful Pokemon from storage. As the transfer was completed, Max again closed the Pokedex, and gave Highfeather the order to continue.
Finally, the two landed outside of an old, circular building. Despite its obvious age, the building had not suffered the ravages of time, and gave off an air of... Max couldn't put his finger on it. It was almost an air of holiness, but it had a distinctly dark air to it as well. This is the spot, thought Max, his heart starting to beat faster. Recalling Highfeather, Max pulled on the door handle, fully expecting to find it locked. To his surprise, the door opened easily, as if it had been not only unlocked, but actually opened for him. Curiouser and curiouser, thought Max, as he slowly made his way toward the center of the building.
Finally, Max reached the central room. Taking two deep breaths, Max reached for the door handle; again, the door opened easily, as if some other force were opening it. Max could see a dark figure, and behind him, a large crystal, more than twice Max's height. The crystal glowed a harsh, dark purple, and was surrounded by a blindingly bright, blue barrier. Max could make out little from the figure, as he seemed to be somewhat concealed by shadows. Slowly, deliberately, the figure stepped forward, revealing himself in the bright light emanated by the crystal and barrier.
"So, you've come," he said. His voice was dark, twisted, sinister. "I was beginning to wonder if anyone would, anyone worth noticing. All the others have been weak-minded fools, easily bent to my will. But you, you're different. I sense great potential in you. Join me, and let me help you unlock your true potential."
Max, his voice dripping with scorn, replied, "And what would you get out of it?"
"Does it matter? Once your true potential is unlocked, you'll be able to do anything you set your mind to."
"Do you really expect me to trust you?"
"No, I don't. But if you won't join me, then I will have to destroy you."
"Heck of a way to try to get someone to go along with you," Max retorted, his hand moving closer and closer to his belt, preparing for the battle Max could tell would probably soon be on him. "I've never associated myself with those who see power as an end in itself, and I will not do so now!"
"I see you have made your decision. Very well. Prepare to defend yourself!" The man's eyes flashed an angry red, and suddenly, two Pokeballs rose from his hands, drifting unnaturally to the ground, then popping open to emit dazzlingly bright flashes of light. The first resolved to show a human-like Pokemon, yellow, not much shorter than Max, with a small amulet dangling from its left hand. The second revealed a Pokemon whose body seemed crafted for the martial arts, with muscular legs and long arms.
Hypno and Medicham, thought Max. That makes things difficult. Max considered quickly, then seized two Pokeballs from his belt. "Highfeather, Dragonite, let's go!" The two Pokeballs burst open, revealing the Pokemon they held within.
"Be careful, you two," Max cautioned. "These two are going to make those Pokemon we faced earlier look easy." Letting his voice rise, he continued. "Now, let's get started! Dragonite, Earthquake! Highfeather, Air Slash that Medicham!" Dragonite swooped near the ground, striking it with his tail. Meanwihle, Highfeather clapped its wings together, sending a sharp burst of air at its martial foe.
The sinister figure simply chuckled. "And so it begins." Suddenly, Medicham leaped into the air, preparing to assault Highfeather with one of its heavily-muscled legs. Meanwhile, Hypno, apparently ignoring the shockwaves from Dragonite's attack, brought its hands together, a ball of otherworldly energy forming between them. In mere seconds, the ball was careening towards Dragonite. "Look out!" Max yelled, but he was too late. Both attacks struck, and Highfeather and Dragonite appeared to have taken significant damage already.
This close to the crystal, the power boost must be enormous, thought Max. I hope Alexxia and Val get here soon; Highfeather and Dragonite can't take much more of this, and we've barely begun!

The floor beneath the room began to shake and rumble as if the earth was about to split open, and for that matter it was. A massive fissure opened beneath Hypno and the long horns of Moss struck the psychic type and launched it into the air. Val and Agro appeared from the pit shortly after as Moss took a defensive stance in order to protect them as they crawled from the back depths. Agro automatically charged up a pulsating orb of black energy and launched it up at Hypno. Val knew that it wouldn't be doing much damage since this strange crystal in the center of the room seemed to be the source of the psychic pokemons power. Val recalled Moss and placed his hand on Max's shoulder as he regained his breath.
"Sorry I'm late for the party. I got attacked underground by a group of Baltoy, but I got some help from a new friend. Let's hope that she can help out as much here as she did down there. Let's do it Eden."
In a flash of bright white light a figure of a creature with four wings appeared. Each wing was diamond in shape and met at the center point of her back. It's body was long and almost appeared to be a tail. At one end were two diamon shapes and on the other was a round head with large round eyes and two horns. Four legs hung from it's thin body like a set of forks ready to pick at an opponent. The bright light faded and showed the Ground Dragon type Vibrava in all it's green and tan glory. Eden floated just above Agro and made an odd, high pitched buzzing sound.
"She wanted to help me out down there and then she insisted to come with me. Daya had to be sent home to get some rest, so I gladly took Eden in. She should be helpful. Lead the attack Max and I'll back you up. We can do this together, but it would be nice if Alexxia was here." Val stated calmly.
OOC-Nice to see this get going again.

OOC: Quite. Going to have to commit a minor auto on Val in this post, hope you don't mind. Time to bring in an aspect of Max I've almost never used, despite going to the trouble of establishing it.
BIC: "Congratulations, and thank goodness," said Max, breathlessly. "Frontal assault won't work here -- his Pokemon are simply too powerful. We've got to find a way to break that crystal, but that barrier makes the one around the town look weak. There's no way our Pokemon would be able to break through it... that's it!" Max could see the look of confusion on Val's face. This part of the plan would have to be communicated without their foe realizing. It was time for Max to make use of abilities he had not honed for a long time. "Highfeather, Dragonite, just stay out of their way! Don't try to attack!"
"Starting to see the futility of your challenge, are you?" their mysterious foe taunted.
Max, of course, barely even heard the words. He had already closed his eyes and begun to concentrate. He could feel the power of the crystal in his own mind, pushing at it. Now, he tried to open himself up to that power, to harness it. At first, it eluded him. Then... there it was! Here's the plan, he thought at Val. We need to make his Pokemon's attacks hit the barrier. With the kind of power the crystal is giving them, it shouldn't take more than two or three hits to get through the barrier. After that, one good attack from any of our Pokemon should be all it takes to shatter that damned thing. Don't let on. Counter or Mirror Coat should also work, if you have them available.
Opening his eyes again, he could see that, now that Dragonite and Highfeather were not attempting to launch attacks at Hypno and Medicham, they were more easily evading the powerful Pokemon's attacks. Now was the time to let them in on the plan. Again concentrating and drawing on the power of the crystal, Max sent his thoughts toward the bird and dragon: Make them hit the barrier. Highfeather and Dragonite made no outward move to acknowledge the command, but Max could feel that they had received and understood it.
Then, the moment of truth. Hypno brought its hands together, a familiar ball of dark energy forming between them. Dragonite spotted this, and began flying an evasive pattern, Hypno matching its movements as planned. Just as the ball was ready to release, Dragonite darted toward the barrier. Hypno fired the Shadow Ball, and suddenly, Dragonite wasn't there to take it. At the moment of release, the crafty dragon had gone into a steep dive and turn. The ball hurtled toward the point where Dragonite had been, went through it, and impacted on the barrier. The impact created a blindingly bright flash of light. Max shielded his eyes, and the flash faded as quickly as it had begun. Carefully not focusing his eyes on it for any length of time, Max gave the barrier a quick look as his eyes darted around the room, mostly focusing on his Pokemon. The barrier was still there, but it was significantly dimmer than before. The mysterious foe apparently hadn't noticed -- yet.
We don't have much time before he catches on, Max thought at Val. Then, closing his thoughts to anyone but himself, he continued, but where's Alexxia? She should be here by now!

Suddenly, something shot past the Medicham, a foot smacking it in the side of the head, sending it staggering to the side. Combusken, landed, but immediately sprung from his position and kicked off the wall, appearing blurred in its movements. He rammed into Medicham with his shoulder, jumped up again and kicked off of the wall, then the ceiling. He shot down at the fighting and psychic pokemon faster still. However, the Medicham snatched Combusken out of the air and spun on the spot, swinging the fire type round and round before finally releasing him powerfully, aimed at the opposite wall.
Poliwhirl appeared from seemingly nowhere and jumped in Combusken's way, catching the firebird and swinging him round, throwing him right back at Medicham. Combusken kicked into the air and aimed down at Medicham, releasing a jet of fire down at the opposing pokemon. Hypno immediately fired an orb of that mysterious black energy at Combusken, cutting through the flames and shooting at the fire type.
Roselia shot up in front of Combusken, glowing blue. Immediately, a blue barrier formed around the pair of them, the Shadow Ball hitting the barrier and splitting off to either side. Combusken grabbed Roselia and landed, both psychic pokemon surrounded. "Sorry I'm late, you wouldn't believe the traffic," Alexxia said from the door, a smirk on her face. "You guys know what to do."
Combusken, Poliwhirl and Roselia all nodded and scattered, taking up their appropriate positions. Roselia hopped in front of Medicham and jumped up, releasing a wave of Razor Leaves at the fighting and psychic pokemon. Medicham threw up a barrier and waited for Roselia to land. It gathered psychic energy in its hands and blasted it right at the grass type. Without hesitation, Roselia threw up another Protect, a wall that was at just the perfect angle. The Psychic bounced off and shot at Combusken instead, who threw up his own Protect, causing the attack to bounce at Poliwhirl, who put up the final Protect wall. The Psychic bounced off the wall and right at the Barrier, exploding brightly when it hit.

OOC- Sorry it has taken so long for me to post. Work and Fable have been keeping me busy.
BIC- Val smiled slightly as he heard Max's voice in his head and without wasting a bit of time. Eden looked back at Val and seemed to connect with Val like one of his oldest pokemon and seemed to know what to do in an instant. Eden divided into three copies of itself and began to fly around the shield surrounding the crystal. Smaller bolts of energy lashed around the shield like bolts of lightning chasing after Eden. Finally, one of the bolts hit home with a force that was nearly twice as strong as the others. Val felt a wave of excitement hit him as the energy crackled on the energy.
"Great job Eden! Keep moving so you don't get hit!" Val called out happily.
OOC-Sorry it's so short.

OOC: No prob. It moved the story along. As discussed, I'll be doing a bit of auto'ing in this post.
BIC: Good job indeed, thought Max. Then, seeing a chance and reaching out to Highfeather's mind, Max sent his next set of instructions. Highfeather, that Medicham's about to try an Ice Punch on you. Make it hit the barrier.
As Max had noticed, Medicham had been indeed preparing an Ice Punch. As Medicham took aim, Highfeather maneuvered itself between Medicham and the barrier. Suddenly, Medicham leaped into the air, its fist outstretched. Highfeather calmly went into a turn, easily evading Medicham's attack. Medicham's momentum carried it into the weakened barrier. Max allowed himself a brief chuckle as he saw Medicham fall to the ground, rubbing its fist with the other hand.
The barrier's nearly gone, Max sent to Dragonite. Your Hyper Beam should get rid of it. Then, shifting his thoughts back to Highfeather, Max continued, Highfeather, once Dragonite destroys the barrier, use a Hyper Beam to break the crystal. The Pokemon made no move to acknowledge Max's commands, but Max knew his Pokemon had heard him. Sure enough, Dragonite reared its head back, charging up energy for a powerful Hyper Beam attack. Max was forced to shield his eyes as the brilliant energy beam collided with the barrier. Shaking his head to clear the spots in front of his eyes, Max saw another beam of light streaking towards the crystal, with no barrier to stop it.
"Stop him!" the mystery man shouted, but it was too late. The beam of light collided with the crystal, releasing another brilliant flash. Max thrust his arm in front of his eyes, only barely able to watch as the crystal began to crack. At first, the cracks were nearly invisible, but as the seconds ticked by, they quickly grew larger and larger.
"No! If the crystal shatters -- " Before the sinister assailant could finish his sentence, the cracks became fissures. Instinctively, Max threw his arms up in front of his face, and watched as the crystal crumbled to dust. As it did, a burst of purple energy radiated from the point where the crystal had been, carrying with it a powerful concussive force. The blast hurled Max against the wall behind him. Max collapsed, only barely holding on to consciousness.
Max groaned, and looked around the room. Highfeather and Dragonite had taken the brunt of the blast, and had been knocked unconscious. The other humans in the room were all on the ground, though all appeared conscious -- and in pain. The Pokemon were another story. Alexxia's and Val's Pokemon all appeared to have been knocked out, and Max could see that they were already being recalled to their Pokeballs. Max did the same for Highfeather and Dragonite. Strangely, the mystery man's Pokemon seemed untouched.
"You fool," the mystery man groaned. He grunted as he slowly rose to his feet. "You're lucky your little stunt didn't bring the whole building down on our heads. Even my barriers --"
Max didn't need to guess the rest of that sentence. "Your barriers?! What are you talking about? And who are you anyway?" Max shook his head as he struggled to his feet.
The stranger seemed to have mostly recovered, and spoke without any obvious effort. "Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Keris. For as long as I can remember, I have been able to generate barriers with my mind. It is only thanks to that ability that nobody in this room died from that explosion."
"But why save us?"
"Two reasons. First, I am not the monster you seem to think I am. Second, the only way to save anyone, even myself, was to put a new barrier around the crystal as it exploded. Otherwise, the building would have come down on our heads. But thanks to your meddling, I couldn't make the new barrier even nearly as strong as the previous one."
"Your Pokemon -- how..."
"Oh, you mean how are Hypno and Medicham unharmed? I have Hypno to thank for that. When he realized what was happening, he set up his own barrier around himself and Medicham. Apparently, it was enough to deflect the blast around them."
With that, Keris bent down. "Interesting..." He held up a shard of the crystal; somehow, it had survived the explosion. It still radiated a harsh purple. "I may yet be able to salvage something from this fiasco. I suppose I should thank you, Milen."
"I can't allow you to leave here with that crystal shard, Keris."
"And how do you expect to stop me? Look at you. You can barely stand."
"Maybe so, but I'm sure you know that Highfeather and Dragonite are not my only Pokemon."
"So that's it, is it? Fine, then. But let's make it interesting." Suddenly, the room was divided into thirds by straight-line barriers. Max, Val, and Alexxia were cut off from each other. "Each of you trainers will face two of my Pokemon. If you manage to defeat me, I'll hand over the crystal shard."
"And why should we take this challenge of yours? For that matter, what's to say you won't just run away with the shard?"
"Tut, tut, Max. Are you always this distrusting of people? If I were planning to leave with the shard, I would have already. Oh, but look at poor Alexxia. Only one Pokemon to fight with. And surely the great Max Milen and Val Armada don't each need 4 Pokemon to defeat two?" Max felt his belt get a little lighter. He looked down to see that one Pokeball -- Steelshock's had disappeared. In the same instant, a Pokeball materialized in Alexxia's hand. Even from this distance, Max could see some of the telltale marks and scratches that identified it as Steelshock's Pokeball. Another appeared in her other hand in almost the same instant. Max looked over to Val. "Mojo," Val mouthed in answer to Max's unspoken question.
"There we go. Now, let's get this battle started. Hypno, Starmie, you two will face Val. Medicham, Xatu, you'll battle Alexxia. As for you, Max, you will be facing Metagross and Jynx." In a flurry of flashes, the Pokemon appeared, each in their designated section of the room.
Things just got a bit more interesting, thought Max. But it looks like Keris is in for a surprise. I doubt he had any idea I have Tyrant and Absol waiting. Still, Metagross will be a tough foe.
OOC: Ending the post here because it's long enough already. I'll have Max's part of the battle in my next post.
