Right on the word origin, wrong on the powers. There'll be no Roxy-style creating matriorbs
What I focused in on was
And a second thing I found about it being the origin of the frost giants. Much less exciting, but Kilik is an ice person
(I know about the Muspelheim side but I'd already decided on ice powers and Nifleheim was the origin name for Nibelheim in FF7 so, y'know)

I honestly kind of agree with the idea of doing the first night in the dorms and the first day of classes together. Just one of those by itself just doesn't feel like it would be big enough to carry much weight plot wise. Although, I kind of get where Lee is coming from in terms of having two separate threads for the male and female dorms. Doing both of those in the same thread could get confusing really easily.

It might take a bit of extra work, but why not have two threads for the dorms but have them as constants - every time there's a new night, just use the same threads instead of making new. It would take a bit of collaboration with each other to make sure everyone's still synched up chronologically, but it also would save on a series of, like, 3 post wonders because there isn't enough plot to carry it further.

Doesn't tacking "first night" onto the end of this plot, (Dis)Orientation, make more sense than the beginning of the first day of classes?

I think there are several good ideas here.
I think having the dorms be a thread, not separate time periods in the dorms, would be best like Yoshimitsu is suggesting. Beelzebibble also makes a great point on tacking the first night on to the end of Orientation.

Another reason for separate topics is because what does every school have? A staff room. I think it'd be interesting to see the staff side of things too, whether it's mundane stuff like timetabling or more intense like conflicts between them. Stuff like, who turns up for every staff meeting and who's most vocal among them. Some of it's mundane as shit but I still think it'd be interesting to see that side of it.

Potato and Yoshi make a good point here. We could easily do the first night at the end of the current thread and then move all other dorm activity to their own threads as Yoshi said.
I favor this course of action.

Unrelated again: started putting the characters on to the TV Tropes page, currently in order of registration thread then, in case of the teachers, appearance in the main RP. Feel free to start inserting tropes for your characters

(For anyone who doesn't know, like probably Silumas, there's a great early example of Emily in Triannual, one of the classic modern-era stories. I think Garth might also have shown up in that one.)

Hilariously, Triannual and Bows were both built around Garth as a major character, and he spends almost the entirety of both out of focus. On the other hand, in the school RP, I threw him in as an afterthought, and now he's arguably the most prominent of all the students.

Finishing up my classroom design document. I think folks are gonna have a lot of fun with it. How are the other teachers coming along?

So far, we don't actually have other teachers! Unless Belwyn becomes the nurse/middleschool teacher. Kara's discussed taking a teaching spot though, so ya never know. And if we're short on people for teaching roles, Natalie very well might end up being one of our teaching staff! Also, here you guys go. FOUR PAGES OF EMILY. And I still have like six people to cupcake! That said, I think I've given everybody but El stuff to ping off of, and I'll do a short post with Garth/Alma tomorrow night to give him something to work with. In retrospect, the cupcake idea was great, and getting Cendra to fill the middleschool was fantastic, but the way I timed everything did make a bit of a trudge out of it. That said, by Monday, the final round of cupcaking will happen, and then Thyra takes the stage! Brace yourselves! (And yes, Emily is going to cupcake the faculty as well as the students!)

I didn't realize Emily doesn't identify as a Power. That's surprising. So she's just... really super at throwing stuff. Cool.

I'll post something up between now and Saturday night but I can't be more exact than that. Shit's going down and I need to get it under control before I can sit down to type up a post.

Also, just so y'all know, I'm giving til roughly Thursday night before Thyra starts her speechifying. So anything you guys have to do, get it out of the way now, because we're on the rails from that point on (It goes Thyra's speech, power demonstrations and introductions, and then student teacher conferences, then end of the first "day".)
The tentative order for Power Demonstrations is the following, bar any late entry characters.
Bertram, Evelyn (El) Bolten, Ty (DL) Chase, Jesse (Cendra) Clarks, Deandre (Pohatu) Europa, Melanie (El) Firbolg, Garth (Lee) Flint (Shoni) Ginnungagap, Kilik (El) Hew, Carlos (El) Howard, Mica (SV) Kane, Talia (Merc) Lexann, Ben (El) Madeiro, Almudena (Lee) McCrowley, Emma Ray Jo (Lee) Nekketsu, Harue (Cendra) Qadir, Jamall (El) Russell, Thyra (Lee) Salazar, Dalisay (Lee) Schwartzwald, Emily (Lee) Silumas (Moose) Truid, Belwyn (Cendra)
I don't know Eira and Aodhan's last name, and I forgot Marius'?
That said, with each power demonstration, I'd like if we gave 12-16 hours before the next one went up, in order to give people a chance to react and such. Not everybody has to react to everybody else's powers, but I think it helps sell the characters a lot more if we can get some reaction shots in, you know?
