Okay, guys, I’ve decided to run another game. This one was incited by the recent interest in piracy, and my discovery of a fairly interesting, if ancient computer game. Well, actually, it was just over ten years old… sooo, not ancient I suppose, but you get the point.
Anyways, the game is Pirate’s Plunder. Basically, in the game, you move about a grid, exploring the ocean, trying to find treasure and conquer monsters that come after you. I could have ran a one-player version of it, but it would be boring that way, so instead, we’re running it this way: three to six people can sign up, and they’ll be placed on the board. They’ll all go in an order determined at the start of the game, and the first one to acquire five pieces of treasure wins. Players may attack eachother as well.
Here’s the rules:
You start out in a square determined by the guy running the game. Your ship starts with 100 HP and one of every weapon. Each turn, you may move one square in any direction, even diagonally. You do so by PMing me. I then report back to you the result of the move, including an image showing all of your known squares.
Squares:
*Island Squares: Each island square has a stash of supplies, consisting of one of each weapon, and supplies for fixing 10+2d6 damage to your ship. By passing over this square, you automatically use both. Once somebody has used an island stash, it shows up on everybody’s maps.
*Blank Squares: Are revealed, natch. No other effect.
*Iceberg: By passing through this square, you take damage equal to 10+2d20% of your remaining health. The iceberg is then turned into a Blank Square.
*Whirlpool: This square goes and steals a random treasure of yours, and gives it to another random player. It then vanishes.
*Pitch: This heals your ship like an island, but does not renew ammunition.
*Map: This tells you the location of the nearest treasure, though not which treasure it is. It vanishes after use.
*Sextant: This tells you the location of all Whirlpools, Monsters, and Icebergs within two squares of you. It remains after use.
*Telescope: This is THE most powerful item in the game. When you get one of these, you can choose to do one of the following. It vanishes after use.
-Learn the contents of a three by three square region.
-Learn the location of a specific treasure by name.
-Learn the location, HP, treasures, and ammunition of any other single player.
*Monster: There be monsters in thar ocean! When you move into a square, you may end up battling a monster for survival. You PM me with your choice of weapon, and that you use one ammunition of that weapon. (The Cutlass has infinite ammunition.) All monsters have 50+2d20 HP, discovered when first fought. They deal d8+4 damage with every attack.
*Kraken: A gigantic squid monster, hoping for a snack.
*Phoenix: The legendary bird of flames certainly is not partial to piracy.
*Seaweed Beast: A shambling pile of vegetation, it seeks to sink your ship.
*Ghost Ship: Many pirates have sank in the pursuit of treasure. They wish for you to share that fate.
*Other Players: These are the most deadly foes of all. They have much more powerful weaponry than the monsters, and much higher HP. However, if you defeat them, you get to take all of their remaining ammunition and treasure.
That’s all the normal squares you’ll encounter. Now, I’ll explain combat.
Combat: When you enter a fight, whatever party was waiting on a square gets the first attack, unless it’s another player, in which case the aggressor gets first attack. After each round of combat, I tell the damage dealt by each combatant.
Weapons: There are six weapons. 5 of them require ammunition, and can deal bonus damage against specific foes. The other one, the cutlass, consistently does the same damage, and does not require ammunition. Each target is weak to only two weapons, and each weapon has two targets weak to it.
Weapon Damage (Cutlass): 6+d6
Weapon Damage (Advantage): 20+3d6
Weapon Damage (No Advantage): 2d6
Weapons: Cutlass: Always trusty and reliable, but low damage potential. Infinite ammo.
Cannon: A gigantic gun that fires cannonballs. Best against large, fairly slow foes.
Axe: Designed to punch through rigid defenses.
Flaming Arrows: Best against foes that can easily catch fire.
Harpoon: Best for piercing the hides of organic creatures.
Ice Daggers: Used to bring icy death to a foe.
Treasure: The goal of the game. There are 10 treasures. The first to get 5 wins. Each one has a special effect on the ship.
*Emerald of Hope: The ship instantly heals 5 damage, and has their maximum health increased by 10.
*Golden Sword of Yr: All attacks made by this ship deal +2 damage.
*King Flynn’s Scepter: This ship’s weapons have access to a third weak point on their targets.
*Sacred Onyx Cross: When this ship is healed, it heals the maximum amount. (not necessarily to maximum).
*Lost Pearl of Jehva: This ship takes half damage from icebergs, and when hit by whirlpools, allows the player to choose the treasure that they lose.
*Queen Latha’s Crown: Increase all non-treasure based healing by 5 for this ship.
*Ruby Ring of Power: When moving into combat, the foe instantly takes 2d6 damage before the battle begins.
*Silver Chalice of Aunge: The ship heals one damage at the start of the turn.
*Murphy’s Chest of Gold: When restoring ammunition, one random weapon gains 1 bonus ammunition.
*Queen Latha’s Necklace: This ship heals 6+d6 on Maps and Telescopes.
Death: When a ship sinks, if sunken by a hazard or monster, it drops all treasure and ammo on that square, where another player can pick it up by moving through the square. If beaten by another player, that player instantly takes all treasure and ammo.
If all players die, then whomever was the last to die wins.
Signup: Here’s all you need to do to sign up. Give me the below info.
*Ship Name:
*Sail Color: (Must both be different from that of other players)
*Specialty Weapon: Choose one of the six weapons. That weapon deals an extra 2 damage in combat when used by this ship. In addition, this ship gets one bonus ammunition with it. If you choose cutlass, instead of bonus ammunition, you get your maximum HP increased by 5.
Each turn lasts two days, and then are executed at the end of those two days. They run Sunday-Monday, Tuesday-Wednesday, and Thursday-Saturday. Not giving me your move means you sit in place.
Prizes:
First Place: 1,000 EP
Other: 100+50(Treasures at end of games) EP
