Well, 2007 is occuring now. So I'd advise us to get together a panel of sprite expert judges or such for this next one, and contestant registry started. I suggest giving members a full two or three months to cover those of us with dicey web situations.
Maybe even outsource the spriting judges, get some of the crowd from Pokecharms to judge us instead, and a neutral party to give us our assignment. That way, we can get more people as valid contestants and such, instead of needing to set aside our spriting experts as judges as well.

Sounds good to me, I'm definitely up for competing.

I'm in too, as long as I'm not needed in the judge's panel. In which case, I'd have to sit it out. I've improved IMMENSELY in the past year, with RPG Maker giving my spriting technique a huge work out. I'm ready for some serious competition.

I'd love to get back into spriting myself. Also, I can bug Alex, Stel and Katie until they agree to being judges... Or whatever... Being an admin on Charms helps a lot.

Nice, Cinders! If you take care of that, that just leaves the subject choice judge. Depending on who else is in, I say either DL, Al, or Gary would be in charge of it.
I'm thinking a multi-competition event, with the events being: *Human Character Sprite (Based on a description from the subject choice judge) *Pokemon Crossbreed (Freestyle) *Human Style Sprite (Freestyle) *Nonhuman Sprite (From the Subject Choice Judge) *Sprite Banner (From the Subject Choice Judge)
That sound about right?

I will throw my hat in as the judge because I am the spriting Mod of all Mod...Or so the voice in my head tells me.
It's Lee's decision, but he knows that I don't judge based on friendships, exc. I'm a fair and tough judge.

Ah, so no DL in the competition? Oh well, that makes it a bit easier. Depending on how many judges appear, you'll either be the concept guy, or one of the judges. I'm thinking we'll want three judges.

That's cool. I really wish I could find the time and inspriation to join the contest, but lately I haven't had the will to sprite. It's sad really.
I'm in more of a judging mood really.

So, do you people think DL's more of a Simon, or a Paula?

I'm more of a Simon because if I don't like something, I'll tell it straight up. I don't care what you all think of me. lol.
PLEASE LOVE ME!!!!!!!!!!

I wanna sprite to even if I am in-experianced, and have no spread sheets. Which I will be taking some from someone anyway. I think it would be fun to sprite, and really get into it. If you need me as a jude though I would be more then happy (Sounds like a mental condition... lol)

I know I sound really dumm, but how do you make sprites...?

Post by prime on Feb 7, 2007 23:19:18 GMT -5
With pixles. Using a program like Paint Shop, Photoshop, Graphics Converter, ect. You create a 8 to 32 bit image, representing a person or character.

Or you could be simple like most of the world and use MS Paint.

Photoshop is horrible for spriting. It's designed for photo-realistic images and such. Paint is the best for spriting, though if you want to go the extra mile, Photoshop can do some KILLER SFX. (Auras, shadows, blur, etc.) (Always create an SFX free version of every sprite as back up. I've overdone it and killed a few sprites in a mad Photoshop binge.)

Ok. So use paint. How long on average does it take to make one?

Depends on what you're working on and your attention to detail. One of my easier ones took me all of 15 to 30 minutes....Largest....I'd say about 3 hours.

One of my best took me about 2 hours, while the easiest (because I'm a perfectionist...) took me about half an hour. Not too long, but long enough for good enough detail.
