Since this seems to be the season for revisiting old ideas that never took, I wanted to bring up one that dates back to the first two years of the site.
DL proposed and started the Exodus Roundup, a weekly video summary of everything going on with Archy Exy. It never really went anywhere, but I think it has potential as a way of getting people with more limited schedule up to date.
I think I'd make it a biweekly 5 minute segment, with a focus on telling people about major events, telling people what plots to check on, hyping upcoming stuff, and so forth, probably with a little props/slops section (never to really rip on people, but to give credit to people who are bustling, and egg on those of us (myself included) who aren't keeping up.) It might go up to seven minutes if things are especially bustling (like awards season, or the two weeks where Dis kicked off).
Is there anything people would like to see, or any guest segments they'd like to offer to do?

I think you mean Exodus Rundown. Yeah, that was it, the Exodus Rundown. That's what it was.

I will clearly insist on calling it the Roundup, since I am a positive person and focus on things being in an upward trajectory. (And to be fair, it's been almost a decade, and did we ever even get an episode of the rundown? My memory is not quite perfect.)

Upon revisiting the old topics and rewatching them, I now see that the project largely went down in a cloud of drama from Pokecharmers. Huh. Remember when there was a rivalry there, instead of mild apathy?
I know I'm going to be much faster paced, but that might not be a good thing- I'm a motor mouth from Massachusetts. It's not uncommon for me to preach a ten page sermon in fifteen minutes. So I might need to slow myself down and give the gags and news room to breath. :3
Looking back through these, I like DL's sense of fun and willingness to give straight talk. I... need to get better on the straight talk side of things too.
I want to do an intro segment with some animations and character art and stuff, but I'm debating on how long to make it. I guess around 30ish seconds would be about right? Shorter feels like no room to breath, longer eats up time and becomes a pain, sooo... Hm.

As the mind-father of this once promising shitstorm, I must insist we recognize that the original focus was going to be member-based so a change to activity focused content would be welcome.
The Rundown died for several reasons. Firstly, a scheduling issue with my work hours didn't allow me the freedom to work on the project. Secondly, and mainly, there was beef between myself and the Charms crew that derailed things pretty quickly. Shit happened on both sides and all of us were better than that. In my claiming the mantle of Exodus Captain America I feel that I may have gone overboard. It could be said that I unfairly pulled El into the conflict which just happens to be one of my greatest Exodus regrets. I don't know where I fully stand in his book but I hope we're cool. No hard feelings dude.

It's cool of you to say that but honestly, no hard feelings. The stuff the 'charms lot pulled was pretty shitty and the irony is that I literally spend no time on 'charms nowadays.

So the opening track is going to be the last 25 seconds of this. Chose something incredibly obscure that the Youtube bots won't pull- A soundtrack asset from a Scrabble game in the nineties. Figure the jazzy feel works with the Winstone era of RP, and has a bit of a newsy feel, which works. (This is also one of my soundtrack bits for writing action scenes for Zeb/Thyra, so it already has an RP pedigree. ) Anybody have anything to work in? I'm going to spend some time with RPGMaker attack animator to at least throw in some clips of Almudena and Terrian doing some fanciness, but I'm not sure what else would help pad it out a bit. I wanna ask, is there a reason this can't be a podcast instead of a video? Besides the opening animation it doesn't seem like there's gonna be anything significant going on visually?? I don't know, I'm speaking as someone who only has Let's Plays on in the background for the noise while I'm working on stuff

Truthfully, I think that this kind of thing lends itself to the podcast format. It would also open up the gates to guests and interviews with board members that we may not have had access to before. Also we could all learn what each other sounds like. I know the voice of SV quite well as we hang out in vent and basically be awesome together, I've heard Choobs before, and I think that Steph and I have spoken before a long time ago.

Video: Pros: -More accessible and easier to post on the site (we can just "Youtube" tag the entries in a thread of their own.) -Better showcase for multimedia things like art, cosplay, maps, and games -Allows for sight gags -Just generally allows me to pack more info into the format (e.g. when talking about an RP or fic, I can put an embedded link into the video, allowing people to click it and go directly to the thread) -I've got a lot more experience doing video projects, having done half a dozen so far, as compared to a podcast
Cons: -More work in general -Harder to get "guest stars", since podcasts just need skype or an iPhone, whereas interviews require people having a camera setup of their own -Less portable -People may feel like they're missing out if they "background play" it. Demands more attention
Podcast: Pros: -More portable, can be downloaded and brought with on busrides, workouts, etc. -Generally less demanding to work on -Can be more "shared", since it's easier to work on and requires less staging
Cons: -Less visually engaging -Can't showcase art or do embedded links -May be limiting if we ever want to do, say, video footage of a "whose line is it anyways?" game from an Exodus meetup, or a cosplay contest, or so forth.
On a personal level, I feel I have more "visual" or "kinetic" charisma than I do "auditory". Unless you've got somebody with some serious verbal chops (say, Pohatu, or for a more mainstream example, Mark Rosewater's Drive To Work), a podcast often comes across as "Listen to this nerd mumble about a thing for twice as long as he needs to". I feel that by going with video and adding some visual "flair", I can provide an overall more engaging experience.
(I don't have a bad voice per se, but people refer to it as very soothing and mellow. So I worry about my ability to speechify for five-ish minutes without putting people to sleep, when I can't pound on a pulpit to wake them up.)

Well, I do think that time is a big issue on the site for everyone at one time or another. A different option could be to have the podcasts regularly (Just audio Youtube uploads are also an option. Even if they aren't as pretty.), but the monthly roundup or special announcements could be done as a video. This way, in general it's faster to get the news out there. Then, on video you can have the visually engaging and fun recap excitement of the previous month's awesomeness with announcements for the coming month. You can always choose to do more special videos if time permits, but have the easier of the two be the norm at the start so you don't get overwhelmed or frustrated if something comes up. This way your audience will be even more excited when you post an extra video instead of "forgetting" to post one. Another pro of this is that any interviews you want to do will be easier to schedule for the video, because you have a whole month of days to choose from for both of you. So I'm in support of both! Haha

I agree, I like the idea of videos like improv jams, but those would be easier to just put up as one-offs while the roundup mostly takes the form of a podcast.

I think that might be what I'll look into- A once a month Roundup with all the big news and hype, and maybe a minor podcast/audio two weeks off from that. But we'll see how it goes.

Personally I've never really cared much for podcasts. I prefer videos. While I may just listen to it on occasion I'll watch, and rewatch, it too.
As to the idea itself, I'm up for it. I wasn't happy when the original Exodus Rundown died off

I am also in favor of podcasts. Loogs is right, there probably isn't enough visually engaging material to carry regular videos. Podcasts are (I'm assuming) a lot easier to produce as well. And they're more versatile. We could probably get away with a five minute video of someone synopsis-ing at a camera, but as far as interviews or discussions go? Not sure I would watch a video of anyone having a nice chat with a disembodied voice. Even DL's studly manvoice might not be enough to hold my viewership.
I do think that monthly might be a little...optimistic? for putting these out? Granted the activity we've had lately is explosive compared to the x years preceding it, but we might not be able to keep up rocket-powered-cheetah pacing indefinitely. Far better to have the content drive the production schedule, rather than the production schedule drag the content. Maybe monthly podcasts and a bimonthly video? Or something?

So guys, Cendra and I will be carpooling to a wedding next weekend, and we decided we'd love to do a pilot run on the Roundup. That said, we were thinking of doing a mailbag style entry for it, and that would take reader questions. So guys, if you have any questions about our casts (or characters we have special insights on, like Emily), ask away here, and we'd love to field them. Ask anything you want, it can't hurt to run it by us.
