So, our ratings for 2013 ended up being a horrible fizzle with only two submissions. As such, I decided that pared down version would be more pragmatic for the current circumstances. The rules for this are simple: Rate the character above your post, giving at least two or three sentences. Then, suggest a character of your choosing (they don't have to be one of *your* characters), and the person below you rates them, and submits a character of their own. If a character farts around in this topic for too long, every Sunday night I'll go and do a rating before the Exodus chat to ensure that the rotation stays fresh. (If I was the most recent, I'll see about drafting somebody else into that duty) Let's keep this thing moving, and get tons and tons of delicious feedback!
Here's our rating scale, for those who don't know it yet. -2: I hate this character and think that they ruin anything they touch. They are a problem for their setting and should be removed completely, as there is no positive to keeping them around. -1: I dislike this character. They are not utterly horrible, but I think they are lacking and detract from the topics/plots/battles that they are in. 0: I have a mild dislike of this character. Their flaws as a character outweigh their pros, however slightly. 1: I'm neutral on this character, or I don't know who they are. 2: I'm okay with this character. They never really stood out very much, but they have good points. 3: I like this character slightly. They have amused me before, work well in plots, or otherwise have gained esteem in my eyes. 4: I like this character strongly. They have enough strong points to support their own plots, contribute meaningfully in almost any RP that fits them, and good design principles. 5: This character is a flawless gem. All RP characters should strive for this level of perfection at all times.

Let's get this rolling. LYDIA (BloodWolf 7): I initially was fairly reserved about Lydia. I mean, after all, I'm already the author of the Exodus's signature emotionless-aloof-blonde-scientist-chick, and I can't tolerate competition now, can I? However, she's grown (like a weed) on me. Her businesslike, competent demeanor, and her focus on a specific field of hard science has massively distinguished her from Blaise's SCIENCE!Magic. She's also been becoming much more enjoyable as a read, now that her priorities are becoming more clear. She really just dives into her work, feetfirst, without holding back. That sort of wild passion for her field and nothing else has honestly made her Blood's most dynamic character, and she's in a shoving match with Durant for the throne of Most Compelling. I haven't seen enough of her to rate her a 4, but with a few more posts in Moss and maybe a solo fic or two, she really could prove to be his breakout character. Rating: *** (3)
Next Up: DIDN'T N!QWEBA, from Flint and Steel.

DIDN'T N!QWEBA: Look, I want to be nice, because I can only admire the Pohatu-like level at which Lee has been hyping Didn't, but she's not quite doing it for me yet. There are at least three totally different ideas packed into her character, and it comes down to her personality to tie them all together, and... well... she's... uh... very excited and energetic! Uses a whole bunch of exclamation points! Imagines silly scenarios and then comments on how silly they would be. Pretty much like Emily, who's also in the same RP with her, and whom Lee is already a boss at autoing. It becomes comical when Lee starts writing them both in the same post and I have to look twice just to figure out which one is talking. Maybe Flint and Steel isn't the right RP to sit down and delve into Didn't's character, but so far she just seems sort of all over the place. I guess what I'm saying is, I wanted to love her at first sight, but I... I... I... Rating: **
This is an unusual format. I'm hoping Didn't will get more reviews from other people. I really don't want this to be the final say on her, but I also didn't feel like waiting around to see whether anybody else would take the bait.
Let's go with...
MY BOY "TITANIUM BOLTS" A.K.A. TITUS BOLTEN, from Dis.

TITUS BOLTEN: I must say, I thought Ty was going to be a lot more aloof and the main outsider of the topic, but instead he's kind of adorably awkward while Talia and Deandre took the loner ball and ran with it. I think it was an interesting choice to have him be an underclassman promoted up to highschool... I'm not sure what this'll mean for his romances and such, if he'll be precocious, or if he'll end up toeing the line between middle-schooler and high-schooler, as kinda a social bridge. I sense a potential love triangle, since Harue is closest in age to him and also Japanese, but Cendra's spoken about another possible love interest for her. I like how awkward he is, while still being levelheaded. He's a good counterpoint to both the more energetic students (Alma, Ben, the clique) and to the more reserved ones (Talia, Garth, Deandre). My one complaint is his viewpoint seems kinda blurry. I'm guessing it's to illustrate his mind being in another place, but it feels just a hair off. ***.5
For the next rater: SILUMAS
(Also yeah, I totally see where Pohatu's coming from; Didn't is a cool idea, but the sort of personality her powers necessitate kinda doesn't work in an RP with Emily. Poor choice in debut threads, on my part there. Sadly, her original debut was plotted for Shadowplay, where the group travels for three days, each with a different Didn't, which I think would have illustrated her nature much better.)

That is a fantastic Didn't idea. Someone start a new thread discussing that.

(Bump?) (I'd like some opinions on Bebe, but I think we've all reviewed Silumas presently, unless somebody else wants to step up?)

BEBEODAN THISTLEDOWN: This is like a committee-designed product perfectly calibrated to hit all the "Lee character traits that Pohatu loves" buttons. We've got a Blaise's loquacity and no-nonsense attitude, a Nopcsa's cynical but highly perceptive and nuanced view of others, and the sheer bonkers X-meets-Y "faerie lawyer" appeal of half the rest of Lee's cast. All you needed was to make her a feisty, flirtatious Latina with a killer booty, and Bebeodan would be rocking a solid five oh. As it is, I think she made a fantastic debut and brings a very refreshingly different attitude into King's Men without being quite as alien to the setting as Esther. I still can't help but crack up when reading her big introductory speech, it hits a really elusive sweet spot of comic and serious. Also, wearing a human-sized necktie as a cape is a nice touch. She's got such a gimmicky concept that keeping her rating high is going to be a challenge, but I can't award her anything less than a four for that debut. Rating: ****
Let's throw ISARA LERAL into the ring. It was her or Esther, and Esther deserves a full-sized POV post first.
