Here, in these hallowed (slightly urine-scented) halls, bask the noblest of competitors, the Dog Racers. This is where they luxuriate between their (kinda) yearly competitions, training and readying for the day that they will be sprung loose once again.
VETERAN RACERS
THE MUTT
Description: A typical dog, fairly average in ability.
Racing: 1d8 feet per turn. However, he's very insecure about his dubious pedigree compared to the other dogs. If he rolls lower than a 4 for three rounds consecutively, the Mutt gains a SHAME BONUS, and his max speed increases to 10 (so his speed becomes 1d10) until he has rolled at least a 6.
Records: 4th Place, Dog Race I
3rd Place, Dog Race II
THE GREYHOUND
Description: This fleet animal was bred to run.
Racing: 1d10 feet per turn. If she happens to get her maximum roll (beginning from 10), she gains momentum and her max speed increases by 1 (so her sped would first increase to 1d11).
Records: 2nd Place, Dog Race I
1st Place, Dog Race II
THE DOBERMAN
Alias: The Hunting Dog
Description: A vicious brute, morewolf than dog really fierce dog than nice dog.
Racing: 1d6 feet per turn. If he rolls a 3 or below, he gets REALLY ANGRY, hops aboard his blue shell, slides to the front of the pack, bites whichever dog is in the lead, and then returns to his spot. The bitten dog loses a turn. If two or more dogs are in the lead, he picks one randomly. However, the Doberman at least has enough honor that he won't try to bite the same dog twice in a row.
Records: 3rd Place, Dog Race I
7th Place, Dog Race II
LASSIE
Description: A movie star of a dog, the ideal animal for anybody.
Racing: 1d12 feet per turn (she cheats and gets away with it because she's a celebrity). Every time she rolls a 9 or higher, she pauses for a photo op, losing a turn but earning EP for players who bet on her.
Records: 5th Place, Dog Race I
4th Place, Dog Race II
THE HUSKY
Description: Used to pulling heavy sleds, this dog starts slow, but accelerates as the race proceeds.
Racing: 1d8 feet per turn until she passes the 50ft mark. 1d10 feet per turn subsequently.
Records: 6th Place, Dog Race II
THE DACHSHUND
Description: What's such a tiny dog doing in the race? Well, this size must have its advantages.
Racing: 1d6 feet per turn. He's so tiny that the Doberman won't bother attempting to bite him, and will try to bite the next dog back instead. Every time the Dachshund rolls a 6, he escapes the force of Earth's gravity and engages in a ROCKET JUMP (pictured above), causing him to advance 12 feet instead of 6.
Records: 5th Place, Dog Race II
THE WHIPPET
Description: A smaller relative to the greyhound, this dog starts fast, but its pencil-thin legs give out quickly.
Racing: 1d10 feet per turn until he passes the 50ft mark. 1d6 feet per turn subsequently.
Records: 8th Place, Dog Race II
MICMAC
Description: The best damn dog ever.
Racing: 1d8 feet per turn. Channery has trained him so exceptionally well that he is immune to distraction. There's no use tossing bones at Micmac, because he'll ignore them. (He's still susceptible to getting bitten by the Doberman, though.)
Records: 2nd Place, Dog Race II
NEW COMPETITORS
THE PITBULL
Description: The Pitbull gets an unfair rap as a slavering monster. He's a big sweetie who really likes bones. They're so tasty and yummy and delicious. He loves 'em. That's not to say he's got a one-track mind. He also loves... uh... um... oh, bones! Yeah, bones are the best. Wait, did I mention he loves bones? They're so good. Oh -- Oh man. They're so good.
Racing: 1d6 feet per turn. If a bone is thrown to another dog <=10 feet ahead, the Pitbull will get incredibly excited, plow ahead to that same space, and wrench the bone right out of the other dog's jaws. The other dog will be somewhat miffed, but won't get delayed on the next round -- the Pitbull will be the one who doesn't move, instead.
Records: None, yet!
THE PULI
Description: Di Puli be a great racer, mon.
Racing: 1d12-2 feet per turn. The Puli is incredibly fast and athletic, but occasionally loses its sense of direction from its dreadlocks blocking its field of view.
Records: Two platinum Reggae albums.
THE SAINT BERNARD
Description: A big, swarthy mountain dog, lugging a cask of warming brandy around its neck.
Racing: 1d8 per turn. Whenever he shares a space with another dog, he offers them a swig of his brandy. Though the Saint Bernard may seem benevolent, his generosity has an ulterior motive. Any dog that imbibes finds it a much stiffer drink than they were expecting, and takes a -1 to movement in the next round.
Records: Bartender of the Year, 2013
THE SCOTTIE
Description: Nothing suits the Scottie better than a touch of the old whiskey. But surely it slows him down? Och! Dinnae gi' me that rubbish, ye wee blarney bockie-nockie-fokkie!
Racing: 1d8 feet per turn. If the Scottie and the Saint Bernard share a space, the Saint's brandy gives the Scottie a +2 bonus on the next round instead of a -1 penalty. And if they're not occupying the same space and the Saint Bernard shares the brandy with another dog instead, the Scottie still gets a +1 bonus by lapping up the spillage if he's within 2 feet of the other two dogs.
THE CHIHUAHUA
Description: DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DI-
Racing: 1d6 feet per turn. The first time the Chihuahua rolls a 3, a countdown is initiated. After that, when the Chihuahua rolls a 2, the countdown ticks down. And then, when the Chihuahua rolls a 1, it's time for a face-off. The Chihuahua contacts the DEA and offers information on the illicit activities of whichever dog is in the lead. When that dog doubles back to retaliate, the Chihuahua detonates her wheelchair, sending both dogs BLASTING OFF AGAINNNN. Both the Chihuahua and the lead dog fly off into the sky and are removed from the race.
