The crickets echoed in the dusky air as Thyra Russell walked into the wilderness. She’d just spent her afternoon estimating classroom furnishing expenses for a new highschool in Slateport.
This had naturally brought her to La Cimetronelle, the foremost manufacturers of furniture in the archipelago. Though the budget had been tight, she’d managed to work out an agreement that would take care of all the essentials. She still wasn’t certain that it would be enough for all the students, when the school got underway, but at least all the teachers had desks and whiteboards, and they’d have enough desks to support classes of twenty.
Again, it was a bridge they’d cross when they came to it. Thyra stepped lightly across the obvious inspiration for that thought, a familiar log footbridge at the top of Route One-Nineteen. She’d been up this way several times with her parents when she was younger, on excursions to the idyllic Fortree City that she now was leaving behind her.
She stepped across to the other side, feeling the ever-present mist of the river road on her skin, the faint precipitation in the air scattering shimmering gems of water across her glasses. She exhaled deeply, and let the still air bear away her worries. No worries that the school hadn’t been named yet, hadn’t hired staff yet. No worries that people were moving into Slateport in unprecedented numbers, eager to live in this space-age city of the future that was being built from the ground up. No worries that at the present rate, Slateport was due to more than double its pre-Summoner population density by 2016, and the infrastructure they had in place was only sufficient for-
Her phone vibrated on her wrist, catching her attention and keeping the girl from relaxing herself into a heart attack.
Thyra took a look at the device, and quizzically raised an eyebrow. This wasn’t a text message or a phone call, or even a telepathic signal. The long unused, saffron colored VS. Seeker light was blinking strongly, indicating a former opponent who was seeking a match nearby. -------- The girl stood by the side of rapid river, her hand expectantly grasping a black Pokeball with yellow detailing. Her phone indicated an opponent across the stream, only a short distance away. Not sure who to expect, she just remained in place, mulling over who her potential opponent could be.
Whoever it was, this would be a much needed opportunity to vent, to transition some of the weight on her shoulders into impact on the field of battle. Thyra caught herself impatiently tapping her foot, and quickly quieted the unseemly motion.

Al glanced around at the familiar scenery surrounding him, embracing the dense air that surround him -- looking for something or someone to give a spark to his ever dying inspiration to continue training. Al, a veteran of sorts, has been training pokémon since he could grasp their existence; always fascinated by water and dragon types: he focused his studies. But, with everything, when you do something SO much, you tend to lose what brought you to the practice in the first place and THAT is what Al was searching for.
Al is ever prevalent in the area and seeking new entertainment he set out training again, however, this time with the offspring of his main team. His hand brushed the pokéballs on his side, with a quick and subtle thought, is it enough?
He shook the the doubt off quickly as his Vs. Seeker pinged in his pocket, a tool that he had decided to keep in case he ran into an old friend, someone with similar skills as his own. With a wave of excitement he pulled the seeker out to see who was in the area that set off his seeker, surely, the specific settings that he had used would only notify him of the most worthy of opponents. With a quick flip of his thumb he pulled up the list of trainers in the area and only one name was shown: Thyra Russell. Ah... he thought to himself, worthy indeed..... With another quick flip of his thumb he responded to the ping that he had received and initiated the interest for a match, his hopes that she would respond in his favor.
He waited outside the waters edge for Thyra to arrive.

"Seadra, I think I'll have you take things off!" Al shouted from across the rapidly moving river, though, his voice naturally soft may not have given the most threatening of tones. He reached back and tossed the Pokéball into the air, it exploding into a brilliant light, refracting itself into a single beam into the water, and finally materializating into a somewhat disgruntled sea horse.
Seadra let out a shrill cry, indicating its readiness for battle, its spirit rising in anticipation. This Seadra was special, considering it was the offspring of the once famed Kingdra, which Al recently retired back in his hometown. It had a blood line and reputation to uphold, and it would not let this battle deter it from doing so.
"I'm glad to see you're raring to go, my friend." Al said softly to his partner, "Lets make sure we are able to keep up in this battle, we have a tough opponent to beat."
Seadra gave as much agreement as it could, being that it was a sea horse, however, Al was able to notice the few slight shakes of its spiny fins as a sign of agreement.
"Thyra," Al yelled across the river in the friendliest of tones, "I'm hoping that you will accept my challenge and I am in hopes that we can make this a great battle between old friends." Al lowered his head and respect and awaited for his opponent to call out their Pokémon, preparing for the significant battle that was about to take hold.

"Albatross! Excellent to see you again after so many years!" Thyra recognized the Polynesian youth instantly. It seemed he'd grown leaner and more toned in his time away from Slateport, though he still had the fresh-faced enthusiasm that was his most distinctive trait.
"I hate for my first gesture upon our reunion to so ignominious, but I doubt you'd want me to be holding back in the very least!" Thyra dashed the sphere she'd been holding to the ground, splitting it open. There was a flash of sky-blue light, reflecting off the dew on the grass and painting the treeline a pastel shade for but a moment.
A bell-shaped creature appeared, its glossy hide the color of a ripe banana. It sat low on the bank, two wide-set eyes staring at the prey before it. It dug two large, flaplike leaves into the soil, one on either side, bracing to fling itself into battle.
"Sarracenia, we're not holding back. Give him the first attack, as is only fair, and then..." Thyra looked directly into Al's eyes from across the river, her quiet voice just barely audible over the whitewater's roar, "We'll give him much better than we receive. After all, such is only proper."

"Seadra! Lets start off with with Twister!" Al commanded in response to Thyra relinquishing her opportunity for the first move.
Seadra responded quickly to her trainer's orders, diving beneath the rapid moving waters surface, only a shadow of its body visible from above, beginning her attack.
Al noticed that the momentum of the water began to slow and bend, twisting eventually into a massive whirlpool. Amazing, Al thought to himself, she certainly lives up to her Mothers reputation...
"Great job, Seadra! You're strength has improved, seeing as you can stop a rapidly moving river to form your own version of twister." Al beamed.
The whirlpool quickly began to raise from the water creating a fierce typhoon, Seadra beneath it. The move pulled in wind from all directions, leaves from the tree's ripped from their branches and joining in the mix, however, the momentum was rapidly increasing pulling more debris within its grasp. Seadra finished powering the move and twisted its body around launching the twister, towards Sarracenia, at maximum power.
Al stared in amazement at the spirit his pokemon had displayed for him, the sheer power of the move was pulling more debris and water within, tearing the ground in its path.

Thyra braced herself, her dark hair whipping in the wind generated by the attack. Sarracenia's grasp on the bank began giving way, the Weepinbell's leaves digging deep furrows into the muddy gravel. "Don't be afraid, Sarracenia! If you get dragged in, we'll have them exactly where we want them!" She advised her champion, meeting its gaze. The Weepinbell lifted the blades from the ground, and without a second thought, let the vortex drag her into the maelstrom. Thyra caught a glimpse of her plant Pokemon spiraling past her in the circular current, a tumbling yellow form lost in the muddy chaos. Sarracenia had shown faith in her, and now it was time to repay that faith. "No need to aim now, Sarracenia... Cut loose with a Sludge Bomb," Thyra commanded, clenching her hands into fists. The pitcher-plant managed to overhear the command despite the roar of the torrents of water pouring over it. It clamped shut, and began trying to work up a good dose of digestive enzymes. The thought of struggling prey, of breaking down a victim into a nutritious soup that would nourish its growth... Weepinbell began swelling, gathering up a massive quantity of acid in its mouth. It fought to keep its lips closed against the shredding turbulence of the river. Though the twister was strong, it wasn't enough to wrench open a trap designed by thousands of years of adaptation to be virtually inescapable. The Weepinbell let her natural neutralizing chemicals dwindle, feeling the acid start to sting the insides of its maw. With a disgusting retching noise, the plant opened its trap wide, and flooded the whirlpool with a blackening plume of acid and toxins. The air was filled with the acrid scent of chemicals, the mist thrown off from the roil making the eyes of both trainers smart. Thyra didn't so much as blink despite the pain, waiting intently to see how Albatross and Seadra would handle this venomous surprise. OOC: My music for this match:

"Seadra," Al yelled over the pokemon's massive attack, "Counter with Dragon Pulse, use it to end your attack and push the poison away from you!" I hope that we are able to counter in time, before the acid cuts at Seadra's scaly defenses...[\i]
A wave of energy pulsated outwards, piercing the bodies of both trainers, sending a wave of power surging through them. The feeling is indescribable, however, the energy caused the trainers to suddenly lose their breath, yet, send a wave of purity through their bodies. Suddenly, the twister dissipated outwards spraying water and debris in the surrounding area.
Al shielded his eyes from twisters aftermath, the acid lingering in the water stinging his arm. When the water finished spraying, he lowered his forearm to see his pokemon levitating in the middle of the air covered in a lime-green light, its eyes glowing a fierce aquamarine color.
Seadra focusing its gaze upon Weepinbell, lowered its head gathering energy from within itself and gathering at the opening of its tube-like mouth. The dragonic energy began to swirl and take form of a small concentrated ball, preparing itself to be hurled towards its target. Seadra was forced to launch the attack earlier than what was desired, due to the energy expelled to stop the acidic onslaught brought by her opponent.
Seadra reared its head back and sent the dragon pulse flying forward, the attack flying at a terrible velocity towards Weepinbell. The distance was closing between the opponent and the attack and the ball started to spin and finally exploded sending a pulse of blue dragonic energy outwards.

Thyra shuddered, feeling the purifying presence wash over her. It was a sensation reminiscent of her own forcefields, which was downright unsettling on some fundamental level. She decided not to waste any time mulling over the implications of the similarity, though, and immediately began deducing her best countermeasure.
“Weepinbell, Sucker Punch!”
The leafy creature instantly responded, rising from where it had flopped on the bank as the twister broke. It lunged towards Seadra, using its powerful leaves to give it a sudden boost. It tumbled under the Dragon Pulse, and skipped off of the surface of the water. The pitcher plant tumbled into Seadra, slashing at a vulnerable spot on its side with its scimitar-like leaves.
A moment later, while the Weepinbell was still at the tail-end of its swing, the explosion went off. Thyra raised her hand, kinetic force instantly snapping forth from her arm like the tension of a stretched rubber band. The force of the blast threw gravel and muck into the air, violently clearing the river of all the flotsam that had been sucked in by the twister.
Thyra found her vision obstructed by a spattering of sodden pine needles and sediment that had clung to the outside of her normally transparent bubble. After a moment’s pause to ensure there’d be no aftershocks, she let the barrier drop. The sundry refuse that clung to her shield fell to the riverbank with a wet plop.
Sarracenia had been swept up in the burst, getting hurled inelegantly into a thicket of brambles overlooking the stream. With a quick whirling motion, it cut itself free of the obstruction. Though it was still ready for battle, it had accrued a few dark contusions across its body, evident damage from the blast. Thyra bit her lip lightly, mulling over her options. Though Weepinbell ostensibly had a type advantage on its water-type opponent, it had always been quite vulnerable to intangible attacks like Dragon Pulse.
She’d need to find some way of taking control of the momentum of the match, or Sarracenia would be receiving quite the pummeling.

Al was impressed by the quick thinking of his opponent, using a Sucker Punch to counter the dragon pulse of Seadra was an expert move on its own. Thankfully, however, Seadra tough scales provide a good natural defense against physical attacks such as that.
"I'm impressed with how quickly you were able to counter with that move. On top of that, you managed to dodge the dragon pulse that was hurled your way. A powerful move indeed, but" he said smirking, "Take a look..."
Seadra was turned slightly, and the brunt of the damage was able to glance off of the hard fins of Seadra's back.
"It seems that, you were able to dodge the move completely, but not without some repercussions." Albatross was speaking with a bit confidence behind his voice. "Counter with Ice-Beam!!" He commanded.
The air surrounding Seadra dropped in temperature significantly; energy began swirling focusing at the opening of her tube like mouth. However, almost instantly after the order was issued, the attack was launched with a devastating intent -- attempting to hit the carnivorous plant where it hurt to finish the match up quickly. The goal was to seal the victory before Weepinbel had a chance to counter with something that could significantly really damage their chances of winning.
The beam of ice energy froze the path it traveled underneath it; racing ever quickly to the opponent with impressive accuracy.
