I haven't encountered the bulk of them, but if you can get over a few assholes on the road then they're A-OK.

i wanted to check out Texas but my mom wouldn't let me because she said y'all are racist. i was like "i lived in Georgia for 4 years" Lol, the irony is thinking a massive group of peoples or a state alone is racist, is exactly that, racist. Texas isn't racist, no more then any other state, people are racist, and the south gets a bad rep for that, when in real life, southerns are the nicest people. The mind set and manners in the south are farther ahead of northern, mid-western, or coastal society, and that's a fact. In addition, Austin is one of the best places to live in the states, ranked overall on all things, plus its like the fucking indie music capitol of the world. All that place is is music of all kinds. While you may think places like Chicago or Seattle, realistically, Austin sees way more music then either. Its not a secret, its just not well known. Its not just bum hick sold my tractor music, its everything. I would love to live in Austin.

Southerners are super nice and super hospitable, so nice it makes me uncomfortable to know I'm not being nice enough, but the Bible Belt attitude is not a very fun one I mean, in Greensboro it's not as bad as it could be, but it could always be better. I imagine Austin is actually a pretty chill place?

I guess the decade I spent in the southeast was an anomaly then; there was plenty of racism to go around. Granted, no one burned a cross in my mother's yard but there were less blatant things happening.

i mean yeah, southerners are super nice. some of my best friends are locally grown southerners and they are like the sweetest. but they also tell me that there are lots of racists and bible beaters.
i mean c'mon, every time i went to a football game, there was a dude on the way to my apartment (on the main road) that was telling everyone they were going to hell.
you can't deny that stuff still happens, just like i'm not going to pretend there are nice people around.
and also this won't stop me from visiting Austin at some point once I have income and living alone.

Austin doesn't seem bad at all so far. The city is pretty liberal which is good for my sanity. I've only met one conservative birther nutjob, but he moved in from out of state.

I'm not denying the existence of such things, they are surely there, but I'd rather see a bible thumped then two gays sucking each other off in public, or a guy robbing a bitch, things I saw in my two day stint in Chicago. I mean the hospitality and friendly attitude are what make it better. Being able to walk down the street, look people in the eye and smile, and get a nod back or a wave, or a "howdy partner!", as opposed to a dirty look or a "wtf you wanna get cut dont look at me" remark like you get in new york or San Francisco. I couldn't look at a single person in Chicago without feeling scared or like I did something wrong, and I walked downtown for hours, seen thousands of people, none made eye contact. Every place is gonna have something bad, no where's perfect, but even the journalists from New York, or anywhere else, list Austin is one of the best places to live. Fuck man, even at McDonalds, they are so fucking nice, bring you your food, even during packed busy times, and check on you throughout you visit, like a fucking restaurant. Its the minor differences like that which make the difference. Not gonna say everyones experience isnt the same as well, cuz surely its not. However, I'm pretty sure the general idea is that the south is a much nicer area, they just still want slaves. Minor oversight.

I don't know if you've ever personally taken a road trip, but its a pretty common pit stop, especially when there is a McDonalds every two miles on every interstate and no other restaurants. TBH there are more McDonalds then Gas stations. Do NOT act like you are better then McDonalds, no one is. NO ONE!

I stop at Subway and Wendy's and occasionally Arby's.
McDonalds always has another better fast food joint around it.

Again, I assume you've never taken a road trip and driven on an interstate. McDonalds is actually in a contractual agreement. Im not kidding when all down I-44 there is one every 2 miles, and there are no other things. When you drive 700 miles, and the only thing is mcdonalds or gas station food, you get mcdonalds. Unless you want to pay toll's and get into a city and spend another 2 hours, which is just damn stupid. Sure a few gas stations might have a subway or tacobell/kfc, but those are few and far inbetween.
I would agree that those places ARE better then mcdonalds, subway is the shit, but subway isn't on the highway.
I'm not arguing the fact that mcdonalds is good, its sub par at best, I'm saying how stupid prevalent it is comparatively.
And as such, in the south, those mcdonalds are very hospitable.

I mean I went to New Orleans and Florida once a year at the very least while in college and we definitely stopped at subways and wendyses. Or chik fils, those are good too.
I'm going to assume YOU'VE never been on a road trip because you don't know how to stop and get food that won't give you the shits an hour later.

I've never got the shits from a chicken sandwich, call my digestion system "normal" if you will. In terms of ingredients, wendyses is no different then mcdonalds. So your shits creator would be at both. Subway is fresh and nice though, and chic fils is the shit, they have the best lemonade in the world. I can tell you, from Texas to Chicago, and everything in between, from bowling green to Arizona, not a single subway or wendyses on the interstate, mind you I don't know either coast, so there may be many many many more subways and wendyses.

Well if you go on a road trip on I-10 through west Texas, there's literally tons of venison just laying on the sides of the road.

ch00bz: You know, finding a band we can play with, suggestions of a venue, or even better, just throwing a party at your own house so we can play at it! Yay!
asmo: We're in the process of working out Madison so uh you should totally come omg.
Kuro and everyone else: Austin wasn't on there because we have help with it already. But we are going there. Whoo. I guess.
Geo: I'm thoroughly stoked to go to Chicago now thanks for not scaring me out of it geez. Also I've taken a ton of road trips and never encountered anything where there's LITERALLY ONLY MCDONALDS TO EAT. I usually don't go there. I mean, on road trips I usually pack a cooler so this isn't even a problem. I mean, if you road trip frequently, this is what you do, because it's wayyyy cheaper and ensures you won't you know get super sick off shitty fast food for days.
Also, to contribute to the discussion: I really loathe anyone making blanket assumptions about southern people. Guess what! Southern people are just like ALL OTHER PEOPLE! Some of them are racist! Some of them are hospitable! Some of them are liberal, atheists, gay, whatever! Whenever you say "Southerners" and mention "their" religion or preferences or -isms, you're making generalizations about people you don't know! That's what your problem with "them" probably is!
I find it all pretty annoying as someone who is a 4th-generation resident of my tiny rural town, who is not racist or religious or whatever, yet you know, is pretty extremely country, but is also pretty extremely not.
ANYWAY
COME SEE MY BAND YALL
