"Now you listen to me carefully recruits, because for the next few hours, I'm going to be training you how to maintain and fly your own first generation starships. You have been invited to this tutorial on the ground that your more than human ability's will afford you an advantage in space. Now, I'm going to give you all a basic tutorial on all the pieces of your ships, make notes and pay attention!" He turned to the screen behind him, and pulled up an image.

"This!" He said, "Is a deflector! If you want to live, you will have a deflector, it keep bits of shit in space from tearing apart your ship around you. Its settings are a simple on and off, though it can emit very advanced forms of energy."

"This is one of many varients of an advanced energy converter, it generates thrust by converting energy directly into pressure on space time, so you could say your ship is surfing a wave. Its kept working with a very complex assembly of pieces, that mostly your repair droids worry about. The shematics for your droids are simply, and on your table."

"This is a phaser, also comes in desruptor varietys. Constant beam or a quick pulse, a dangerous weapon indeed. Your being equipt with shields, to protect you from weapons like this. You may want to test these weapons out yourselves, to test out their capabilitys. Your quite capable of routing other things besides deadly energy out of them."
"That was the basic run down, you'll find everything else on your computer pads, study them. Once your all finished, we'll continue into the assembly area's, where you'll specify the capability's you want on your ship. You'll have to take more of a hand in it's general appearance however, the computer's aren't good with aesthetics, simply efficiency."
The man continued to make outlines, explaining how certain systems worked and such, but Diamond felt fine about all the various systems. She looked through the listing of various items and weaponry, shield's, power capability's, engines specs. This stuff was advanced for a planet moving towards another world war. Diamond scrolled through the lists a bit more, coming upon the star map. It seemed there were 32 area's that showed sign's of star travel. She perked up at this at once, she thought she'd end up being all alone out there. Glancing at the official looking man, who'd just ended his speech, she began programming specs into the pad, for her ship. She wasn't going their illarmed, or unequipt, that was for certain. And as this was a government sponsored program, she felt she'd take advantage of the situation. A medium sized ship, fitted with 8 phaser cannons, and 2 phaser stips. 5 Energy to space time wave converters (engines) placed around the hull of the ship. 312 stabilizers, deflector dish, good living quarter arrangements, and a great deal of cargo space. Fusion reactor core, 3, all contained in different sections of the ship. She looked over the bridge area, opting for glass windows instead of sensor scan video. The polyglass seemed to be touch enough to take the heat. 3 shield generators, for the aft, center, and fore of her ship. 2 forward facing and 2 rear torpedo tubes. polarized hull plating that would resist attack even when the shields went down.
Diamond knew she could go further, but she was happy, for the moment. She'd leave ample space for the many things she might be able to find out there, in deep space. She looked up through the glass roof, at the starry sky overhead.
