A single candle sat silent in a massive room high in the mountains. In the darkness around the candle chanting echoed against the walls and seemed to be coming not only from the darkness but the afterlife as well. A single figure approached the flickering light of the candle and the chanting began to quiet. The figure stood nearly six foot four inches tall and couldn’t have been more than one hundred and ninety pounds. His hair and eyes were hidden behind a hood of black cloth that was connected to a type of robe, which only the elite monks of The Grand Monastery of the Shining Heavens wore. The sleeves were slightly baggy and tied off just above the elbow. The robe was open on the chest and all the rest of the way down. The bottom of the robe ended at the bottom of his ankles. The man wore a pair of black monk pants and a set of soft boots. A black piece of cloth was wrapped around his left hand and wrist, and it appeared that he was trying to hide something.
The solemn monk raised his face to the light of the flame, and lifted his hood so that it rested against his back. A pair of piercing green eyes shone like the sun in his skull, and a mane of mid length black hair ran in a ponytail on the back of his head. As the light of the candle danced across the face of the young man, a mass of candles lit around the room. A large number of monks appeared in the light in orange robes. Each one had a sting of purple beads around their necks and a balding head. At the front of the room stood an old monk in white robes holding a string of purple beads in his hand. The monk approached the young man and smiled softly at him.
“Young one, you have made your way through the final training processes that we can offer you. You have passed the tests of the Shining Heavens and have proven yourself to be a true man of virtue. It is with great pleasure that I give to you the highest honor this order has to offer. You shall become the Grand Inquisitor of this order. With this you gain the rank of Master Monk and gain the right to try to gain control of the Guardian Weapon of the Shining Heavens. I now proclaim you as Master Monk Kado Lorsha.” the white clad monk stated as he placed the beads over the young Kados neck.
The room once again erupted in the same chant as before as Kado was ushered into another room. The robe he had been wearing was taken and replaced with one that was bound with purple binding. A purple sash was wrapped around the teens waist, and small wrap was placed around his right wrist. A single monk tried to take the binding around Kados left hand, which earned a stern glare. Kado grabbed the purple cloth meant to replace the black one and ventured out of the temple towards the mountain. On the silent walk, Kado unwrapped the cloth around his left hand and wrist. There in black ink rested a dragon coiled around a crown, the mark of the Drakengrad family line. Kado spat on the ground and wrapped the mark with the purple cloth.
“Master Caine, are you sure that I can pull the Guardians sword from the mountain? I have not nearly as much training as he once did, plus I am of unworthy blood.” Kado stated as he neared the white clad monk.
“My child, you have nothing to fear. You have proved time and time again that you are a true follower of God. You have passed the tests to become a Master and have shone to me that you are willing to put your past behind you to protect your faith. Take the hilt of the sword and pull. If God has chosen you to be the embodiment of the Guardian then you shall pull the sword out as if it had never been bound there in the first place. If God has chosen another then you shall simply take up a different arm and protect the Faith as you would normally.” Master Caine calmly as he gestured to a long staff like projection from the ground.
Kado stared at the task before him for a moment and then gripped the staff with all his might. With a single powerful jerk, the massive blade within the earth burst forth into the air. A massive slightly curved mass of bone hovered high in the air attached to a stone guard and a wooden staff that was called a ‘hilt’. The ‘blade’ seemed to pulse with life and power. Kado seemed to be stunned at the fact that he pulled the great weapon from the ground and seemed to be granted the grace of God. Master Caine smiled widely and patted the young monk on the shoulder.
“I knew that you were chosen by God my young friend. You have been granted the Fang of Behemoth. This weapon was cast from a fang from the mighty beast of the land, Behemoth. This is one of three items cast by God for the use of the Guardian. You must go out into the world and find these other two items before the forces of evil find them. Now that the Fang has been awakened, I’m sure that the other items are giving off some of their energies to guide the Fang to them. Be wary, I’m sure that there will soon be agents of the Underworld after you. Go now my friend.” Master Caine said calmly as he gestured towards the pass that led out of the mountains and towards the nearest village.
Kado easily flipped the Fang onto his back and the weapon created a purple sash that held the powerful weapon to his body. Kado nodded at his master and began down the rocky trail and into the village. It had been some time since anyone from the Monastery had ventured into the village and many things had changed. The once quiet village had changed into a busy city. The last time Kado had seen this place was on his tenth birthday when he left his family’s home and ventured to the monastery. The technology of the city seemed to confuse Kado and caused him to become very wary. The Fang pulsed and Kado whipped it out as quickly as possible. A car came hurtling around the corner of the street that Kado stood in; the driver didn’t notice him because as in most cities he was in a hurry and happened to be drunk.
Kado brought the blade of the Fang down hard on the front of the car and split it in two. The driver was unharmed but extremely frightened. People began to crowd around the young monk and yell things at him. Police soon appeared and began to aim their firearms at the youth and began to bark out orders. Kado simply turned quickly at the sources of the yelling, still brandishing his blade.
“Stay back you foul demons! One step closer and I’ll be forced to bring the wrath of God down upon you all!” Kado called out wildly as he pulled the Fang of Behemoth up high into the air ready to strike.
