Sly lifted another of the wolf-like creatures and threw it into the others. So many of these creatures had flooded into the street at once that Sly had to pull his Shredder from its holster and begin firing into the surging mass of beasts. It really didn’t matter where he fired; the energy that expelled from the barrel would burn through the creature it struck and into whatever was behind it. It would continue its burning path for several feet before the energy would evaporate into nothing.
Ender's message echoed in Sly's head as he decapitated several creatures with a swipe of his tail. The beasts had become far more wary of Sly. The tail-blade moved so fast that when it flicked or jerked toward any of them it disappeared momentarily, only reappearing when muscle and bone slowed the serrated end of the blade as it cut through the creatures. Even then its brief reappearance was only a momentary blue blur; then it disappeared again until it entered the body of another beast.
<I would concur. We’re making our way towards the marketplace, but this plethora of creatures is slowing us considerably.>
A large group of the creatures attacked Sly from the front. He flipped a switch on the side of his Shredder and fired. Instead of the usual beam of plasma, this time it launched a ball of energy which quickly flattened out like a wave, surging into the creatures and burning most of them down to the bones. Sly ejected the empty power cell, inserted another, and switched the weapon back to regular firing mode.
<We'll make our way there as fast as possible. Try and recruit anybody you can find into helping you find the source of these creatures.>
OOC- Well, I’ll give Pika a little bit longer to reply.

Zebedee brought his blade to bear, stabbing it through the skull of one of the beasts. The creature's head immediately exploded in a shower of gore, the blood vanishing before touching Zebedee. He teleported again, instantly slashing the next across the back and spinning into a brutal kick to its compatriot as the first target combusted.
He spun, focusing energy at his knuckles, and performed an enthusiastic backhand. A massive wave of kinetic force ripped along the ground, plowing straight through dozens of the beasts and sending them tumbling heels over heads. Zebedee paused for a moment, cobblestones raining like hail.

"What if I choose neither?" Dente's voiced hissed sadistically. In a flash he was facing the other way. The chains now gone from has hands, a flurry of raw white energy spewed toward the blue-haired young man.
OOC: Short I know but it'll improve, hopefully. ;P

Rick leapt up into the air over the energy as it streaked by beneath him. He held his position in the air a moment before quickly flying left in a tight curve toward Dente. He held his polearm like a lance, hopeful that he could impale his adversary with it. Rick knew it wouldn’t work though; things just weren’t that easy anymore.

Onslow brought down one of his axes into the skull of an oncoming wolf, splitting its skull in two. Bringing his foot to the head of the beast he yanked the axe out of the oozing skull. "I can sit here and fight these things all day, but what is the game plan boss!?" Onslow shouted toward Ender. <I think we should head toward the central market area, that seems to be where the source of these creatures is located.> Ender projected into Onslow's mind. "How are we supposed to get past that tidal wave...?" Onslow mumbled to himself, looking at the oncoming and seemingly endless horde of wolf demons. Out of the corner of his eye, Onslow observed a group of three red mages hopelessly fighting off a large group of wolf beasts. The resistance was starting to die down, and the mages were starting to be overpowered, just a few more minutes and all of them would surely be dead. Holding onto the little hope they had, the group had gotten into a triangle pattern, backs to one another, and were swinging their weapons are rapidly as possible. The group rotated in a small circle very slowly, just trying to survive. "I HAVE AN IDEA!" Onslow shouted, looking at Ender. "Hold on one sec!" Cutting down a few wolves, Onslow raced toward the group of mages and opened up a path for them. "Follow me! We are heading toward the marketplace, and we are going to need all the help we can get!" The mages and Onslow began to fight their way back toward Ender as quickly as possible. "All right, you four hold them back for me! When I get going I want you all to run as fast as you can and stay as close to me as you can! We are going through that!" Onslow shouted as he pointed toward the wall of enemies. "Try not to fall behind, or fight anything, just stay in the opening I create for you, until we reach the heart of the marketplace!" As Onslow said this he lifted his right axe over his head, and held it straight-armed above him. Taking his left arm, he positioned his other axe at a forty-five-degree angle, creaing an acute triangle with his axes. Onslow began to spin slowly, then more rapidly. Building up more and more speed Onslow began to become a blur. Flying slightly into the air, Onslow hovered a little less than two feet off the ground. Tilting himself horizontally, Onslow appeared to be a giant arrow of whirlwinding power. "Here we go!" Onslow shouted, as he bolted forward with all of his power, slashing through the hordes of beasts, cutting them down left and right, leaving behind him a small path of emptiness and safety. POHATU SEZ: I edited Ender's psychic line to use the word "think" instead of "believe". Ain't no way Ender would use a fussy word like "believe". That's for high-falutin' folks like Sly.

OOC: I'm gonna go prod Pikachu again lol. OOC: ... what do you all do when one of the characters..."stops playing"? Cause yah... Im assuming Prime wont be back for a while, and I really dont want to wait for him to cool down and come back. I have become addicted to this topic now, and I want to see it to completion as quickly as possible, so the sequal can come out. OOC- We pretend Prime was never there. Once this topic is done DL has something planned then part two will be made. OOC: or we pretend the character suddenly fell into a coma that we really didn't care about, so we left said character for the buzzards. in other news, Pope, i hate you. I may have to write a script to counter that. To counter what? The post I made for the topic? OOC: I meant that I may need to write a greasemonkey script that changes your post color to the normal background color, because I can't read your posts. OOC- *Beats Pikachu to death* *joins in beating on Pikachu, even though he should post too.* OOC: Darn I thought something might have actually happened here XD. Well minds as well jump on the band wagon *Also begins to beat Pika* OOC: Pika is ruining all the good topics. True story. Including the Airship one, even though he's not in it. OOC- I'll give him till Friday.. then I begin autoing.

OOC: I have a life now! Leave me alone! ='[ El Oh El hope this is ok for now.
Dente jerked to the side just as the polearm blade sliced through his robes. The incredibly sharp weapon barely missed his left shoulder. The mage whipped his sleeves back to reveal his hands, which were now holding two daggers, the edges of which were covered with a deadly poison. It would probably take several hours for that type of poison to kill a being such as Rick but it was certainly capable of doing so.
Dente darted forward, his left dagger slashing at Rick's throat while the right dagger was thrust toward the warrior's stomach. Whether the attacks hit or not was irrelevant, the mage only wished to throw his opponent off guard while he prepared to drop down and sweep Rick's feet from beneath him. This would leave him open to a more powerful attack.
Down in the village the wolves were being cut down left, right, and center. The alpha creature, who stood on a hill not far from Dente and Rick, let out a terrifying howl. The call from the much bigger wolf-like monster seemed to give the others a power boost: their skin began to toughen under the shiny steel-like hairs that covered their bodies. The beasts were becoming faster, stronger, and a damn sight smarter.

Rick shifted the polearm in his hands, bringing the bladed end up to parry the dagger headed for his throat. The pole part of his weapon was used to knock the second blade out of Dente's hand. Unfortunately the blade still cut through Rick's clothes and gave him a shallow cut in the stomach.
Nothing I can’t handle, Rick thought as he was about to strike again. Dente's foot swept under Rick in an attempt to knock him over. The black mage leapt into the air and floated there, staring down at Dente.
“Come on, you can do better than that can’t you?” Rick said mockingly. “You can at least fly right?”
Rick's black aura increased as he twirled the polearm and then held it ready for the next attack.

Sly finally made it into the marketplace. By now only one of the white mages remained standing; he and the green mage were fighting together but both had been backed up into a corner. The remaining red mages, six in all, were fighting back to back in the center of the marketplace.
The Andalite flipped the switch on his Shredder and fired another burst into the wolves. Sly charged into the now-vacant area, trying to get to the red mages. The creatures were filling in the gap faster than he had anticipated them to. Finally there were enough wolves around Sly to overpower him. The Andalite's blue fur disappeared underneath the flowing tide of wolves.
Several explosions suddenly rocked the marketplace as the wolves on top of Sly were thrown every direction. The Andalite wasn’t in too bad a shape since the creatures had only been on him for a few seconds. Sly looked up to see a small white cat-like creature floating down toward him.
<Mew! Where have you been?> Sly asked, relieved to see his old companion again. He quickly turned and went back to slaying the creatures with his tail-blade. <Never mind. I need you to make sure the mages fleeing the city are okay and do what you can to protect them.>
Mew nodded and took off toward the edge of town.

Dente did not answer, he simply rolled up his sleeve and began to carve symbols into his flesh with one of the nails on his left hand. He chanted under his breath and the wounds began to glow a light shade of blue. The air around the two combatants swirled wildly for a moment as Dente began to rise into the air, his body soon level with Rick's.
Without saying a word he whipped a hand toward Rick, sending a spiral of intense flames toward the black mage. He flew forward, following the path of the fire, and began to stab and slash at his target.

“Watera!” Rick yelled as a column of water issued from his left hand, striking the flames in midair. Steam issued from their collision and wafted around the two warriors as they met in the middle in a ferocious, close-quarters battle. Their bodies tumbled through the air as they stabbed and slashed at one another. A short wave of lightheadedness washed over Rick, and as he parried one of Dente’s blows, the force of the strike knocked him backwards.
Rick righted himself in the air and gritted his teeth. Dente was flying toward him again with his daggers ready. The mage lifted his polearm into the air and bellowed the word, “Thundara!” Electrical energy began to pulsate and seethe around the bladed end of the weapon. Rick swung the weapon in Dente’s direction, hopeful that his adversary's speed would carry him right into the mage's range.

Dente flew straight into the attack, unable to slow down in time due to his speed. He reacted fast enough to throw up a physical barrier and stop the blade from slicing clean through him. The powerful lightning magicks that Rick had placed on the weapon, however, jumped right through the barrier and into the mage's chest. The sheer force threw the mage back a good forty feet, where he spun in the air roaring as electricity ripped through his body. Smoke began to rise from Dente's robes as he stopped spinning and hung where he was.
"That almost hurt," the mage said, looking up. His crimson eyes began to glow beneath the shadow of his hood. As Dente rose higher into the air, a faint buzzing noise could be heard. It sounded like a swarm of insects flying around very far away.
"I hope you brought some bug spray..." Dente smirked as seconds later his robes flew open and thousands of tiny creatures began pouring out into the air. The creatures were about the size of large bees, they were tiny little demons with razor sharp, hook-like tails and teeth to match. They also seemed extremely pissed off as they sped toward Rick.
Dente used the distraction to heal a couple of injuries caused by the thundara attack. Though he had acted like it was nothing, he did have some severe burns. If the demons could keep Rick's attention for long enough, however, the wounds wouldn't be a problem.

Rick readied himself for the demonic bugs, though he wasn’t quite sure what he would do. Fortunately another mass of insect-like creatures met the first in the air before they reached him. They glittered as their metal exoskeletons reflected light from the son. Rick recognized them as the mechanical bees that were released from his father's Cluster Bombs. The little contraptions would latch onto the creatures that Dente had sent forth and explode with enough force to rip the creatures to shreds.
But where had they come from? As Rick started to scan the battlefield, something sharp caught him on his shoulder. One of the little demons had managed to make it to Rick. Immediately the skin where the creature was biting ignited into flame, causing the thing to recoil in pain. The mage felt a pang of dizziness as he tried to cut the creature in half. The blade was too high and instead only managed to cut the creature's wings off.
Rick regained his composure and then launched himself toward Dente again.

Zebedee was preoccupied with his own battle at the time. He found himself wishing he had spent more time learning how to deal with multiple enemies, the beasts springing at him from all sides. He let his feet slide out from under him, falling prone. As the creatures passed over him, snarling with surprise, he unleashed a cobalt blue column of fire, incinerating them instantly.
He flipped to his feet as the charred corpses dropped all around him. More monsters were rapidly closing the gap. Whatever these things were, they certainly were a lot more numerous than most pack hunters. Somebody was coordinating this attack... He knew it.

Ender too had his own battle. He thrust his hand out, and into the open mouth of a lunging creature. He snapped, and kinetic force erupted from his hand, blowing the creature's jaw completely off, as well as sending the thing flying backwards. His other hand was held behind himself. Despite the fact that Ender wasn't looking at what it was doing, the hand seemed to independently parry attacks, as another lunging beast was batted away.
The psionic lifted a leg high in the air and brought it down sharply onto a third creature's head. Meanwhile, his hands had reached to either side, not only to balance himself, but to grab the necks of two snarling beasts who attempted to flank him. With an audible grunt, Ender lifted both of them and slammed them into each other. To make sure his recent kills were all incapacitated, he telekinetically lifted them all and threw them into the next closest beast.

Sly heaved the last cluster bomb into a group of creatures. The first one he had thrown caught the beasts unawares; they gathered around it and were decimated by the onslaught of mechanical bugs that would dig into their flesh and detonate. When he threw the second cluster it went too high, causing its anti-gravity pad to engage and hold it aloft in the air. It still hung high in the air despite the bees having flown off. The third he set as repair and retrieval. Like the one before it, this cluster also hung in the air, but its mechanical bees flew around the battlefield collecting still useable parts of the previous bees and brought them back to the cluster to be repaired and sent back out.
The Andalite readied himself for the next wave of creatures but it never came. While others were fighting, the creatures immediately near him were hanging back. Sly's confusion was quelled, however, when he saw a large dark mass coming toward him. It was taller and larger that the rest and reminded Sly more of a bear than a wolf. It let out a loud roar, causing flecks of saliva to dribble from its mouth. Sly stared at it unblinkingly as his tail-blade raised high above his head. <And I was really starting to wonder how things could possibly get worse.>

Rick knew there was something wrong. Sweat was pouring down his forehead and he seemed to be nearly out of energy as he was now bobbing uncontrollably in the air, barely able to keep himself flying. A sharp pain issued from where he had been stabbed earlier, and when Rick placed his hand on it, he felt thick pus inside the wound.
“Poison,” he whispered to himself as he wiped his hand on his shirt. He looked back over at Dente who was now floating overhead, a broad smile etched across his twisted face. Dente raised his hand and pointed it toward Rick. The mage knew he wouldn’t be able to dodge anything Dente sent at him now, not with the poison in his body draining him of his energy. Rick looked down and opened his eyes wide at what he saw. Beneath him in the sea of black creatures was an Andalite.
“Father…?” Rick whispered.
The Andalite must have heard him, because it first looked up with a single stalk-eye and then with the rest of his eyes. For a moment the two had been reunited. Father and son together again at last. They were separated again just as quickly.
Rick watched as the largest of the beasts used this moment of distraction to pounce on Sly and tear viciously into his neck. The mage tried to yell in his fury, but Dente struck him in the chest with such unnatural force that Rick was sent flying through the air. He saw the city walls pass by underneath him and felt horrible pain as his body slammed into tree after tree, each one exploding into a rain of splinters. Finally he struck the ground, digging up the soil around him as he continued to slide before coming to rest at the base of a boulder.
He blinked a few times, realizing that he had stopped. He couldn’t move but he could feel the warmth of blood on his body as his many cuts and gashes began to bleed. In the distance he could see Dente floating toward him. His pace was slow and methodical; Rick knew Dente wanted to see him suffer before he finally finished him off.
So, Rick thought, this is how it ends…
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Father…?” Sly heard, barely audible above him. He chanced a look up and saw his son. For a moment everything was forgotten. Reality quickly set back in as the large wolflike beast barreled into Sly. The Andalite watched as his son was attacked by an unknown man, before the beast’s body blocked his view. The creature opened its mouth wide and went in toward Sly's neck. Just as it was about to bite into the blue flesh, the creature’s eyes rolled into the back of its head and it slumped over.
The long bloodied tail-blade withdrew from the creature’s chest and Sly pushed off the body. He looked back up into the air but there was no longer any sign of Rick or the man he had been fighting. Another creature lunged at Sly; its head rolled across the ground with a slight bounce.
OOC- Just post if you’re in the topic and we should be able to finish this up soon!

A pang of pain. Sorrow. Emotion. Ender could feel the strong sensations in the air around him. His body was on autopilot; a separate portion of his mind was dedicated strictly to motor controls, bringing down any nearby beast without a moment of delay. The rest of his mind was now trying to feel.
Sly. Rick? Yes. Both of them. He turned his mind's eye towards Sly. For a moment he noticed Rick, but all too soon the man was flying away due to a massive blast.
The beasts were circling slightly more cautiously. Ender turned his mind back to the battle. He'd deal with his friends in a second.

Blood trickled from dozens of nicks and scratches that covered Zebedee's body, all results of various near misses and lucky breaks he had gotten while fighting the creatures. They had begun to avoid him besides going for sneak attacks, having collectively realized that he 'tasted bad', possessing even less of a connection to mana than the average non-magician.
Another one lunged at Zebedee, giving a short snarl. Zebedee spun, dodging its jaws, elbowing its claws aside, and seizing it by the throat. He focused, using kinetic energy to augment his strength. He spun, igniting the creature in his grasp, and hurling it into the midst of a group of creatures. Zebedee brought his right hand up to his elbow, and the lupine beast exploded violently, sending its smoldering comrades tumbling in every direction.
"Forget this! It's been too long for me to even THINK about bothering with subtlety!" Zebedee pointed at another beast, and it imploded with a disgusting crunch, blood spattering the ground. Several creatures, realizing the renewed threat he posed, turned to face him, and began charging.
"Exsanguination!" Zebedee bellowed, and waved his left hand in a semicircle. The creatures all collapsed, and their blood, teleported from their veins, rained down upon the others. Zebedee paused for a moment, wiping his glasses clean with a gesture.
"Caution can only get me so far," Zebedee murmured, and vanished, reappearing behind another monstrosity. He prodded it in the back of the head, a spatter of crimson accompanying the gesture. One of its compatriots lunged at him from the side, only to have Zebedee bat it with his free hand. The creature was roughly torn in half, and both sides hit the ground almost thirty feet away. Zebedee stood still for a moment, scanning for his next victim, and then vanished again...
OOC: Yeah. Zebby goes nova now. Should've at the start, but such is plot based stupidity.

Dente stared down at Rick with a cruel smile on his face. Slowly he floated down to the ground and walked what was left of the short distance between him and the beaten opponent. Blood began to pool around Rick, and a deathly cold had begun to overtake his extremities. He wasn’t sure if his labored breathing was due to the loss of blood or the poison that now infected his body. It didn’t matter; neither would cause his actual death. Dente would see to that.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sly was surrounded once again. The beasts snarled and foamed at the mouth. They craved his flesh and any essence that his body might contain. To Sly nothing mattered now except getting to his son. Fear had been etched across Rick's face right before he was blocked from view. It was the same look that Sly had seen on countless other faces throughout the years as he had witnessed the deaths of friends and family. He had not been capable of helping his wife, but he would not fail his son as he had failed her.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Ahhhhrgghh!”
Dente’s smile twisted into a wicked sneer as he dug his heel deeper into the mage's shoulder. Rick felt his shoulder dislocate as a sickening pop echoed around him. Dente lifted his foot and then knelt down near the mage's face. “Your essence will be a rare treat. I have not fed upon magic like yours in quite some time.” Dente smiled as he lifted his hand and readied himself to pull the magic, the very life force, from the black mage. “I promise it will hurt.”
Rick tried to retort but only managed to sputter blood and saliva. Dente tilted his head and laughed before plunging his hand into his victim’s chest.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sly’s tail moved without sound as the attacking creatures fell to the ground, bodies sliced open and heads cut off. He held one with his bare hands by its neck. He was torturing it, making sure to apply enough pressure that it yelped in pain so that more would come to help their comrade.
As Sly neared the city gate, he was overcome by a blinding flash of light from within the surrounding jungle. In the instant the light flashed, the Andalite felt his hand close around nothing and realized that the area around him had become incredibly silent. When the flash subsided, there was no sign of the creatures, living or dead. Sly looked at Lee and then to Ender. Neither of them seemed to know why the creatures had disappeared either. Sly looked back out toward where the flash had originated. Dust flew up around the Andalite as he took off at a full gallop into the jungle.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Rick opened his eyes. He was lying in the same spot where he had been just moments before. There was no sign of Dente, and Rick felt as though he were waking from a refreshing night of sleep.
<Rick!>
Rick looked over to see his father come to a sliding halt next to him. His father's flank was bruised and cut but he was alive.
“Sl... Dad? But I saw…”
<I know you did. But hopefully, together, we can discover an explanation… Can you stand?>
“I think so.” Rick shakily stood up and looked around. His eyes studied the area where he had lain and then wandered to his father. “It’s good to see you again.” Rick leaned forward and hugged his father. Sly patted him on the back and then looked at him quizzically.
<How did you survive?>
“I’m not sure what happened, but someone or something saved me.” Rick put his hands in his pockets and felt something warm and hard. He withdrew his hand and produced the crystal he had dug from the ground the night he returned to this dimension. Ever since the ‘death’ of his father, he had carried it with him. Now he wondered if it had played a part in the events that had transpired just moments ago.
<There is much to do. Wounded to be tended and answers to discover. We must not linger here.>
Rick nodded and together they headed off toward the city of Shin-Ra, last city of the Mages.
