Okay. I'm not sure if I'll be hosting the next one or not, or when I will be hosting a game of Mafia. Hopefully sometime this year. But I have some ideas on how I'll run it that'll make it substantially different while retaining some flavor.
This time, the village is centered around an ancient relic of unimaginable power, Pandora's Box. Every three days, the box swings open, unleashing unimaginable power. Whenever this happens, any living villagers (barring two or three roles) are randomly given the role of another living villager.
Mafia Members vote via PM for nighttime executions, because if there was any set Mafia voting grounds, they'd be capable of pretty much knowing exactly who was Mafia at any time with all of the switches. If any mafia member wishes to notify the other Mafia members of some reason to choose a member, they tell me, and I PM it out to the other Mafia members. All Mafia members know who their fellow Mafia members are at all times, but not their roles, except for the Godfather, who knows all Mafia member's roles at all times.
Items will be limited in quantity from the very beginning, although one of the Innocents will have the power to restock some of the store's inventory on a nightly basis. Once they die, items for the most part, will be gone.
The Items:
*Extra Vote: Same as before. Two per day may be used, and may be used in Mafia and Town
*Wooden Sword: Gives the person the powers of the Bomb for one night after use. If used by Mafia, allows them to kill the attacking vigilante without being harmed.
*Healing Potion: When used, allows one Innocent to act as the Doctor for one night, and one Mafia to act as a Body Guard for one night.
*Superb Marionette: Basically an extra life that is expended if an attempt is made on a member's life. They are very, very rare.
*Unicorn Horn: A resurrection. There's two in the store at the start of the game.
*Spare Arrow: An extra attack for the vigilante. There's two in the store, and one other available throughout the course of the game. Can not be created, but can be stolen by the thief, or sold to the store.
*Peek Into Pandora's Box: An item that can not be sold to the store, stolen, or created. When used, it unleashes major events, varying from killing the user to transfering a random posting requirement randomly to making the user invincible for two full days. (Those aren't the only results. There's ten possible outcomes, with two doubly likely to occur.) It has a random price daily.
Roles:
Returning:
Doctor
Detective
Vigilante (1 shot)
Editted:
Body Guard: Now works like the Doctor, but for Mafia Members.
Bomb: Now called the Veteran. When attacked by the Mafia, can kill one member. (If they all vote, the last one to vote is killed. If there are nonvoting mafia members, one randomly selected one is killed.) Does not kill villagers.
Chronomancer: Now the only person with a Freeze-ability. Once every three day/night period may remove a player from the game for a day/night period. During this time, the removed person may not be killed, and may not vote, buy or sell items, or use any of their powers. The Chrono is immune to role switching.
Godfather: Same effect as before. They earn 15 money every day, are immune to switching roles, and get one extra vote during Mafia voting.
Merchant: No longer gets a discount. Instead, they are the Marketeer, controlling the stock of the store. Every night, they may have a small ammount of a selected item added to the stores.
Thief: Now, they may steal a small ammount of money from people in addition to their item theft. Shows up as Mafia to the Detective, and can be killed by the Vigilante. If somebody is using a Wooden Sword when the Thief tries to steal, the Thief is killed if not trying to steal a Wooden Sword from them.
Miller: Now called the Brewer. Earns 10 money a day. Can be killed by the Vigilante, and still shows up as Mafia. Knows who the farmer is, and the farmer knows who they are.
NEW ROLES: Phoenix: This player rises from the dead the morning after they are killed, once per game. Innocent.
Smooth Talker: This Innocent can grant one person an extra vote per day.
Farmer: Though unbeknownst to his fellow innocents, this man's vote counts for nothing. However, due to very few members of the town taking him seriously, he is treated as receiving one less vote in any vote, town executions and Mafia.
Necromancer (Mafia)/Miracle Worker (Innocent): Each of these players has the ability to resurrect another player. The Necromancer may do so once per game, while the Miracle Worker may do so twice per game.
Channeler (Innocent): This player may prevent two chosen roles from being part of the mass exchange. They also may choose one posting requirement on a living/dead member at that time, and transfer it to another player. Knows who the Miracle Worker is, and vica versa.
Infiltrator: This Mafia member shows up as innocent when the detective asks about them. They can mimic MANY abilities of innocent players, though in a weaker/less often manner. They can choose to surrender and partake of the split pot if they are the last Mafia member left standing, or can choose to continue playing for the full prize. They only get this option once.
Craftsman: This player may create items. It takes one phase (day or night) to make an extra vote, 2 full days for a wooden sword, 2.5 for a healing elixir, 10 days for a superb Marionette, and 12.5 for a Unicorn Horn. Innocent. Knows who any other Craftsmen and Marketeers are.
Graverobber: This Mafia member may take every item of one type from a player when that player dies.
If we have 20 players, we'll have a second Craftman. If less than 19, the following roles will be removed in this order:
Phoenix
Farmer
Smooth Talker
Grave Robber
Chronomancer
Channeler
Craftsman
So, minimum number of players is 12, Maximum is 20.
There's a few other tweaks that I probably forgot. Basically, this time, I want to try to make this game MUCH more over the top. Since players are constantly switching sides, Loogs doesn't need to worry about at least some of her betting. She can have a bet on who the winner(s) will be overall, and have non-players and innocents wager on who the next Mafia-kill. Anybody can wager on who will make the most in the daily games, and via PM to loogs on what the roles were.
The balance is a little weird. Both sides got PUMPED UP, but the villagers have a much less focused (if greater) power, and are likely to kill a few of their own number while going after Mafia.
