In light of the upcoming presidential elections, and the fact that we are down to 2 admins versus 4. I thought it might be fun to hold elections for a new admin. [glow=red,2,300]Of course, this topic should just be erased if Lee doesn't care for a new one[/glow], and thinks it is fine as it is, but I was thinking the mods that wanted to run, could make up speeches, get involved in debates (they dont necessarily have to be relevant to the boards), campaign slogans, and all that jazz that is involved in running for president... well admin in this case. I think the whole running for election would be fun (as long as you all made it that way), and it wouldn't hurt anything to have another admin, since as Lee said, we more or less govern ourselves.
What do you all think (mostly directed toward Lee)?

I think it's an interesting idea.

We do still have three admins. One is just a few thousand miles away for a little longer. [insert "this is in no way official, nor are we even looking for (or need) an admin" statement here]

Steph doesnt count. She only comes on to say that she will be gone for a long time, that's it... Oh yah, Im sorry, she does the what are they saying contest to... but that's it. Why cant we get another admin? Do they have that much more power than a moderator? Of course only mods could run for admin, I think the entire election process would be a lot of fun, as shown by the effort potato already put out. Just consider it before shotting it down

It's not a question of "why can't we", but "why SHOULD we". Adding admins is more of a liability than anything else. There is very little that an admin is needed for that a regular or global mod can't take care of, and in exchange, there's yet one more person out there whose account could endanger the boards if it were gotten into. The Exodus has always been quite top-heavy with staff. Unless there's a specific need for a Mod in one area or something like that, I'm strongly against adding more. If you do see a location where another Mod is needed, sure, point it out.
(If you can't tell by now, I'm really against doing something for the sake of doing something.)

I just thought it would be fun... you know the whole election process. I guess we could just have a fake election, that doesnt count for anything... but that's boring... so what ever, if you dont want it, then thats up to you.
Back to the drawing boards.

Sometime I think it'd be nice if the boards didn't shoot down the Pope's suggestions all the time.

Lol, nah, cause then I would feel good about myself, and that's not acceptable.

...I didn't say there can't be a fake election. It just seemed an awful lot like this was intended largely for a serious suggestion. If I misinterpreted, ok, it's my fault. But yeah, I just wanted to shoot down the possibility of us adding an admin before people get their hopes up.

No, you were right, it was a serious suggestion. I was just stateing there, that we COULD, in place of, hold a fake one, but I dont think that would be nearly as much fun.
and,
Babs, dont worry about shotting my ideas down (if you were feeling bad that is, if you were not then you dont even need to bother reading this). I understand were you are coming from on all the shut downs. To be quite honest with you, most of the ideas I have posted, I was expecting to be met with sevre dislike, and frowns. It will all be worth it though, when I come up with one or two of those big ones, that everybody likes, and revives the boards, if even for only a short amount of time, kinda like Mafia. Ive been up here in the mountains for the past month, doing mindless physical labor, and sitting around doing nothing in particular afterwards, so I have a lot of time to think, and a lot more to do so. A lot of times Ill be painting, or pressure washing or something (like today), and Ill be like "hey it might be fun to make a <insert activity here>, then I think it through, and go and post it. Anyways, the point of my rant is, dont feel bad, if you are. Your doing your job, and that's what you have to do. If you went with every suggestion, everyone threw at you, this place would be a total mess, and I think you make most of your decisions very wisely.

Well, if we didn't keep shooting down Pope's ideas, you'd end up like me: arrogant and conceited.

Uh. Guys. I´m in Colombia. The internet died ALL OVER THE COUNTRY just a few days ago. Seriously guys, I´ve just gone through another move and I´m a good couple of thousand miles away, so be considerate, I really can´t be on too often this time. Once I´m in North Carolina, I´ll have internet in every room of the house. =D My uncle´s a digital expert, so why wouldn´t he. Anyway, we really DON´T need a new admin. Maybe with a bigger population of members, a real election would be possible. But not for now.

Yah, with more members, we might do a "Advance a moderator to Global/Admin, and advance a member to moderator" contest. But that'd take like 12-25 new, moderately active and persistant members to cause. Otherwise, it could only be in jest.
