I was jonein' to write a pokemon story, so I just started writing and came up with this. I guess you could call this part of a massive story but I'm not sure that I really have the patience to finish it. Tell me what you think and I'll think about writting on. This should give Lee a bit of a hit as to who I truely am. (Lee, if you figure it out, PM me). If you haven't already figured it out I'll let the whole site know next week. Anyways, here we go.
My Own Footsteps: Chaper 1
As the shroud of night fell around the sleepy little town of Brandywine City, hostile voices began to rise up from a large home on the top of a nearby hill. The home was three stories in height and stood strong on the neatly trimmed lawn. The red brick of the home seemed to echo the emotion of the screaming from within. An older voice seemed to rise up above the softer, but strong-willed, voice of a teen. The pair were standing face to face in an office with a large bay window, seemingly to the point of almost hitting one another. The yelling began to get louder and louder as a pair of twins appeared in the doorway of the cozy office.
“I’m not going to follow in your footsteps dad! You know that I don’t like electric pokemon and you can’t make me stay here and help you run your precious gym!” the teen cried out as he tossed a black box with a lightning bolt on it to the couch nearby.
“You can’t tell me what you’re not going to do! I’m your father and you’ll do as I say! I spent a lot of money getting that Elekid for you and you’re gonna train it!” cried out the nearly purple older figure.
“You DO want me to be exactly like you, don’t you?! You even went as far as to try to get me to train your trademark pokemon!? Don’t think that I want to become my own man?! It’s no wonder mom left you! You’re so controlling that I’m surprised that you don’t try to tell me when to breathe!”
“Don’t you dare bring your mother into this! You stupid little brat, go to your room and don’t come down until you see things the right way! It’s my way or the highway Victor!”
With a look of sheer rage and loathing the Victor pushed past the young twins in the doorway and climbed the stairs, making sure to stomp on each one on the way up. As he opened the door to his room the familiar smell of incense wafted outwards into the hall. The teen flipped on the light and slammed the door as hard as possible. The room was large and quite well furnished. All of the tables and dressers were made of solid oak and varnished in a rich cherry color. Posters covered the walls, mostly about different events that Victor had collected, mostly from different local pokemon tournaments. One of his personal favorites was a massive poster over his bed that pictured a Wartortle, a Ninjask, and a Phanpy in various battle poses.
Victor began digging though his closet for some unknown object and pulled out a large backpack. He tossed the bag on his bed and dug out a set of clothing. He quickly changed into the clothing and looked himself over in the mirror. He was clad in a pair of long gray shorts, a pure white jersey shirt, tan boots that appeared to be tennis shoes, and the crimson bag he had just dug out from his massive closet. Victor crossed the room to his desk and grabbed two devices that rested next to the keyboard of a computer. The first was a small, red device with a small built in camera, screen, and flip cover. The second device was similar to a wrist watch with a screen and microphone. Victor slapped on the watch and put the red device in his pocket and exited the room.
Victor stormed down the stairs and into the office where him and his father had just had the fight. The sound of footsteps caused the older man to turn and face his son, a look of renewed anger swept over him once again. The older man stood with a bit of difficulty and glared coldly at his son. Victor locked his gaze on his fathers eyes and returned the coldness that he had received. The pair stood there, seemly locked in a battle of souls. Victor broke the gaze and grabbed the black box he once held in his hand. He looked at the box and set in gently on the table.
“Dad, I’m not going to end up like you. You can keep your gym, your house, your pokemon, and your life because I don’t want them. I’m going to become my own man, a man much better than you could ever be. I will be a gym leader…but a much better one than you. I’m going to train myself to be much more effective than you. I’ll be back, and then we’ll decide who exactly is the better man. Bye. And by the way, I’m not Victor anymore…you can call me V from now on.” and with that V turned and left the building he once called his home.
V’s father ran towards the door and yelled at the top of his lungs, but it all seemed to be nothing more than the wind to V. The older man began to toss out curses and other foul language, but his oldest son just kept walking. Soon after the twins ran out a nearby door and grabbed onto their brothers leg. V looked down at them with a smile and pulled them off his legs. He knelt down and put a hand of the outer two shoulders of the twins. A look of love appeared in V’s pure blue eyes.
“Markus, Maggie, you two be good for dad. I’ll be back sometime, I promise. Just make sure that you keep in touch with mom, she really misses you two a lot. If you need anything just call me, my number is on my desk in my room. Go on back inside and go to bed.” V said softly as he rushed the twins back to the house.
Not skipping a beat V turned back away from his former home and began down into the streets of Brandywine City. V knew where he was going but wasn’t sure if he would be interrupting something or not. Either way, it was something he had to do to get away from his father and out to prove that he was a better man his father. V began to grow tense as he drew towards the rustic home on the other side of town. By this time it was quite dark and the streets were clearing out quickly. V stood on the steps of an ancient wooden home in the center of massive fenced-in fields. V knocked solidly on the pale purple door and waited for an answer. The minutes that passed seemed like hours as V waited for the man he needed to see come to the door. Finally the lock on the door twisted open and an old man appeared in the doorway, clad in green pajamas and a white lab coat.
“Victor…What brings you here so late?” the old man asked.
“Actually, it’s V now and I just left home. I couldn’t take my dad anymore so I left home.” V answers as he lightly kicked at the doormat.
“Oh, I see…Come on in. Sit down.” the elderly man answered as he ushered the teen into a small, quaint living room.
“Thanks professor Cherry. I wouldn’t have come over so late if I didn’t need to ask a favor of you.” V stated as he kept his gaze on the clock that read a couple past midnight.
“What favor would that be V? Do you need a place to stay?” Cherry asked quaintly as he sat down across from the gym leaders son.
“Well, you see my dad finally decided that I could have a pokemon and he tried to force me to use an Elekid. You know as well as everyone else that I don’t like electric pokemon and quite frankly, I’m a bit afraid of them. I guess this is a round about way of saying it, but I was wondering if you had a pokemon that I could buy. Money is no option and I would really prefer a pokemon that’s strong against electric types.” V rambled off as he looked up at the professor weakly.
“Well, you’ve caught me at an odd time. All the starter pokemon have been given away as you know and the trainers that I store pokemon for haven’t sent me any pokemon that fit the bill.” Professor Cherry stated as he adjusted his glasses.
“Oh, I understand. It’s ok…I’ll just go out and try to find one myself…” V stated sadly as he ran his fingers through his short brown hair.
“I never said that I didn’t have any pokemon that fit your guidelines. I’ve actually just obtained a new pokemon for a research project and happen to have had one sent to me by an old partner in my research. It happens to be a ground type pokemon, which I’m sure you know are quiet effective against electric types, but it seems that it’s not quite as even-tempered as most pokemon that I give away. Seeing as you have been raised around different tempers of pokemon, I’m sure you’ll be able to handle this energetic guy. What do you say?” Cherry asked as a smile whipped across his face.
“I’m all for it! Whatever it is, I’ll take it!” V cheered as he bounced straight up in his seat.
“All right, I’ll be right back. Have a cup of coffee or tea if you’d like.” Cherry said as he rose from his chair and started back into the lab at the back of his home.
V rose from his seat and entered the small kitchen nearby. He flipped on the light and began to look for a cup. After searching a couple of cabinets he found a mug shaped like a Chimecho with its tail forming the handle. V knew that the professor loved Chimecho and surrounded himself with as much Chimecho related objects as possible. V crossed the kitchen and grabbed the pot of coffee. He poured a mug full of the substance and drank it down as quickly as possible. The caffeine that he consumed was not intended to give him more energy, but to steady himself out. It was amazing to V that at the age of eighteen he was addicted to coffee. V put the mug in the sink and ventured back to his seat to wait for Cherry to return. He nervously at, waiting for his older friend to return with a glittering pokeball containing a ground pokemon of his very own.
After a few more tense minutes, Cherry reappeared with a red and white sphere with a black line circling it, dividing the red and white. Cherry sat down and placed the pokeball on the table next to his chair. V and Cherry exchanged a few glances and finally Cherry broke the silence.
“Now V, you need to be warned. This pokemon is still a bit wild, but not in a bad way. It’s playful to a fault. The strength that his pokemon has can be a bit of a problem with it being as playful as it is, but it shouldn’t be to much of a problem for you. Would you like to do the honors?” Cherry asked V with a slight grin as he held out the pokeball.
V didn’t say a word and took the pokeball. He marveled for a moment and then began to shift his thumb over to the open button on the front of the ball. With a shaky movement he hit the round button and a red light burst forth. The light danced around the floor and then began to solidify. The light formed a small ball that burst open to reveal two sets of legs, two large ears, and a long trunk.
“Phanpy!” the pokemon called out as it began to dance around on the floor.
V pulled out the red device that he kept in his pocket and opened it with a slight snap. The mini camera activated and an image of the Phanpy appeared on the screen. An electronic voice rang out from the device.
“Phanpy, the Long Nose pokemon. As a sign of affection, this pokemon bumps others with its snout. This can be dangerous because of its strength. Phanpy have been known to bring back objects that they pick up with their trunk to play with.” the pokedex sang out.
“Phanpy, it’s perfect! Thanks professor. What do I owe you for it?” V asked as he put away the pokedex and pulled out his wallet.
“You don’t owe me anything besides taking good care of it. I know that you’ll go on to do great things. You have started late, but you have enough experience with pokemon that I don’t doubt you will do great things with Phanpy as your partner. You should probably get some rest. You can stay here tonight if you wish.” Cherry chimed.
“No thanks, I think that I’m gonna get going now. I can’t wait to see what the world outside of this town is gonna show me. Phanpy, return.” V said as he withdrew his elephant-like pokemon.
“Well, I wish you the best of luck V. If you need anything just call.” Cherry said as he escorted V to the door.
“Thanks, I’ll be sure to do that. Have a good night.” V said joyfully as he exited the old home and began down the darkened rustic path and towards the forest, full of excitement and hope for the future away from his father.
