Valon slid the old, rusty key into the nearly frozen lock on the cabin door. The squeak of the old tumblers was almost comforting. The clank of shifting steel and the creak of old wood was intoxicating. It had been nearly three years since Valon had been at this place but the memories where as fluid and vivid as they ever were. This cabin reminded of friends, fun, cheer, and everything that came along with it. But this visit wasn’t about all of these things, but more of a personal retreat. The stress of being king was great and every once in a while Valon would try to get always from it all by going to a place that he only had good memories of. Luckily Sly had given Valon the key to the cabin so that he could get away from it all for a while.
As Valon opened the door the familiar scent of pine and burnt turkey greeted his nostrils like an old friend. The place was dark but very warm and inviting. Valon closed the door and began across the living area. Nothing had changed since he was here so long ago. The furniture was in the same position that it was in long ago and there was even a dead Christmas tree in the corner. A slight smirk appeared on Valon’s face as he began to work. With a few motions of his hands there was an inviting fire in the fireplace and a brand new Christmas tree appeared in the corner. All the dust had disappeared and everything looked as new as could be. A bowl of fruit appeared next to a high backed arm chair near the fireplace and the smells of different cooked meats wafted from the kitchen. Everything was finally perfect.
A sudden thought crossed Valon’s mind as he was about to sit down and the impulse made him head towards the back of the cabin. He passed room after room that once held the many people that stayed in this cabin around Christmas. Towards the back of the cabin stood a black door with a silver ‘7’ on it. Valon took a deep breath and twisted the knob, opening the pathway into an old room. Inside was nothing but a simple bed, desk, and lamp. It was all that was needed really, Valon never needed anything else. On the desk stood what had struck Valon so hard only moments ago. A five by eight photo in a silver frame stood there like an obelisk to the past. In the photo was Valon near the back and many, many friend around him. Among them were Sly, Rick, Zeebedee, Ender, and many others. Those days were the best that Valon could remember or even care to think about at this moment.
Valon headed back to the living area with the photo and placed it near the fruit bowl he had conjured up. Valon plopped down in the chair heavily and grabbed an apple, biting down into the juicy meat of the fruit. A warm smile flashed across his face as the juice of the fruit hit his stomach. A book suddenly appeared in Valon’s hand and opened itself to a page that seemed quite colorful for a book to come from Drakengrad. The page seemed to explain the traditions of Aldra-Sa holidays. Valon began to read quietly to himself as he sank into the comfort of the cabin and the peace.
OOC- First off, No one post until Bulbs posts on this. Secondly, this will be a Christmas topic. No fighting, no drama that’s over the top, just have fun.
