So, who all is playing right now? What teams are you?
I'm level 13, Team Instinct, and my current party is a Venomoth in the 600s (Named Monkeyface, naturally), a Pidgeot around 575 (Named Roucarnage), a Jynx I just hatched at 400-something (which I have no idea what to nickname, going with Sazae Oni for now after the mythological snail-siren that steals testicles), a level 400ish Raticate who I just stumbled into and don't really care about, a level 375! Bellsprout who I can't wait to evolve (Named Sarracenia), and a Poliwag in the 300s who took over thirty balls to catch. (Named "Expletive")
Also, why do people choose such terrible things to put on Gyms? Like, everybody around here seems to use Grass types (Gloom, Parasect, Exeggcutor), which in a binary weak/resistant game is TERRIBLE. I mean, the smart move is using a Psychic Type, since it's only weak to Bug (very few bug moves going around), Dark (there are no dark types) and Ghosts (who are weak to Psychic moves). My main combat 'mon is Pidgeot, since its basic move is Steel Wing. Pretty much buzzsaws through anything that isn't an Eeveelution. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to thrash the eeveelutions efficiently, since they're the bread-and-butter of the game. I can beat 'em, but I feel like there's some surefire Mon to roflstomp them.
(BTW, I was told that for those trying to rig Eeveelutions, naming them after the Battling Eevee brothers (Pyro, Rainer, etc. that it actually chooses the evolution corresponding to that, but haven't had a chance to test yet)

Gf confirmed the eeveelution trick with rainer.
Myself, i pretty much gave up, it's too shallow of an experience to justify the horribly glitchy first few weeks. And the resource distribution is terrible. Just how many magikarps do you expect me to catch? I found ONE so far

And the resource distribution is terrible. Just how many magikarps do you expect me to catch? I found ONE so far You see, I view Magikarp as Schmuckbait. Unless Gyarados is the be-all end-all of Pokemon in Pokemon Go, then I'm not going to bother with that sidequest. Another key thing to keep in mind is it's designed as a "casual" game. If you go for day long binges, you're going to burn through your resources waaay too fast. The best way to play is figure out how many Pokestops are around your daily routine, and then use it during the best stretch of those as part of your daily "walking around" (granted, last I knew, you worked with a university? Those are usually super hotspots for Pokestops, but I'm not sure how much walking around you do there) As for the glitchiness, I feel your pain. I considered every third Pokeball tribute to the glitch gods. These last two patches, though controversial, have largely mitigated the biggest glitches (the Schrodinger's Pokeball glitch, some of the "wild throws"). Basically, though it goes against your nature (I know Pohatu is man of intense passions with a propensity to go whole hog on whatever he's focused on), it's best to take it casual. It makes it easier to build up your item base, and then you can take two or three hours a week for a dedicated slog.

(I know Pohatu is man of intense passions with a propensity to go whole hog on whatever he's focused on) It's true. The upshot of Pokemon Go was to get me full steam ahead on my Y breeding project again. Soon Versailline and Kelmadics the perfect Gardevoir and Gallade will be mine

Gf confirmed the eeveelution trick with rainer. I can't tell if you're referring to Gamefreak or your girlfriend, but either way, Pokemon Go is actually under Niantic's jurisdiction. (Before this they made a pretty cool game called Ingress which is a base-capturing game that works with the GPS similarly) I'm too bitter about the game not working to be into it at this point. Also like Hatu mentioned it's too much hassle to evolve anything that's good: I have a few cool things like a Dratini and my starter Squirtle, but they almost never appear on my usual errand route, so I look forward to having a Blastoise in a good 135 years from now Additionally: my data plan is pretty garbo and the game's just not worth eating up my monthly allotment for. I did catch a fuckton of Magikarp and some other neat water types at the employee picnic by the lake though

It's fun to take over gyms and leave a CP 10 magikarp behind. Props to the instinct player near me who did it with a kakuna

I came to the realization that I've a God tier psyduck. He knows water gun and cross chop, which makes him excellent at busting through any non-Vaporeon critter holding gyms. I'm just debating if it's worth trying to evolve him, since there's no guarantee he'll keep his hax moveset.
