Anyone else on here ever picked up this delightful series of YA novels by Michael Grant?
If you've never heard of them before, the simplest way of putting it is somewhat like "under the dome", suddenly and for what appears no reason, everybody over the age of 15 suddenly vanishes from Perdido Beach California, soon they find out the entire area is surrounded by a seemingly impenetrable dome 10 miles in diameter, with the nuclear plant, directly in the centre. So you have naturally the chaos involved of a bunch of kid's with complete control over the town, then add in that some of the kids have started to develop super-powers, add in a splash of racism, violence, intolerance, the inevitable running out of resources, romance here and there, and some truly insanely graphic concepts... The series is dark, twisted, and completely gripping, when I first read it a few years ago I literally read them all back to back (except the last one, I had to wait for it to be published). I've actually ended up reading more of his work since, the man is great with imagery, and if anything that's one of the best parts of this series.
There's 6 books in total, Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, Fear, Light, and I cannot recommend them more, these days a set of paperbacks of the set will go on ebay for less than $20 so I'd say give them a go.
I've been recording my own audiobooks of the series for my best friend the last few weeks, although I was having to work so hard on the quality I've given up and am using a friends recording space, so if anyone could deal with my pleasant british baritone for long enough I'm more than happy to make the files available for you guys when I'm done.
Oh and there were some trailers put out for the last book, I'd say there's some pretty graphic images but fortunately not much in the way of spoilers as far as the trailers are involved. There are trailers for other novels in the series but i'd say the ones for light are the best as they do it as actual news reports, reason being the dome is completely opaque until the very end of the 5th book, there's 3 but i've linked the first one below, see what you guys think =)
