So I'm spinning this off into a separate thread, so we don't derail the more respectable discussion threads.
First, some basic screenshots: (warning: Slight spoilers for those of you who haven't read the registration topic I guess?)
The faces are placeholders for now; while overworld sprites see a ton of use, faces are just relevant for gauge stuff, so I haven't bothered until I'm wrapping up most of the custom graphics work. I'm almost done with Flint, but have yet to find materials to easily make a satisfactory Ben (ironic, since I'm doing pretty well on his beast mode). So expect Flint screen shots by Sunday, and Ben... Some time before the end of the year.
The roles the party seems to be working into are:
Almudena: Basic fighter. Hits hard, but doesn't really have too much variety besides hit things more than once, hit things harder, etc. Deandre's role will be as an assist character for her, however, meaning people will be juggling the pros and cons of using her turn to deal damage, versus using her turn to call in Deandre and see what he can do.
Garth: Squishy wizard. Doesn't have much oomph if you stick to his basic techniques, but his high level techs bleed his health down. That said, if you're willing to pay the cost, he's the most damaging character in the party and can do a real number on almost any opponent.
Flint: The assassin, he specializes in status infliction, instant kills, etc. He takes lots of cheap shots. I'm not sure if I'm working Zagaroth in yet; between Garth and Ben, power management is a very real concern, and having a third person to juggle may be too much.
Ben: the party's cleric. He heals people, buffs them with encouragement, etc. Of course, you can milk a lot more damage out of him by shifting into his beast form, but that comes with all sorts of drawbacks. He can't revert while the fight's still going, so you're without your main healer; and furthermore, if you tell him to go beast-mode but the rest of your party goes down before he shifts, without anybody around to keep him in check, he runs wild and you get a non-standard game over.
