From now on, each Wednesday, I'll be posting a discussion question, taken from somewhere on the net, or maybe my own ideas.
For our first question:
"New York is under attack! You’re unarmed and trapped in a room near the center of New York City. All public transport has stopped. You’re one of the last - if not the last - survivor. If you can survive to escape the city limits, you’re home free. However, something stands in your way.
There is one silver lining, however: you get to decide what enemy you’re up against so you can give yourself the best chance of survival. You have a list of 15 options in front of you:
Giant, intelligent killer bees Daleks Dinosaurs, including T-Rex’s and Velociraptors, that aren’t attacking each other Dragons Kaiju, like Godzilla Killer Ghosts Giant Snakes Giant Spiders Technology that has become sentient and is trying to kill you Magneto and some of his Brotherhood minions The race of Predators (From The Predator movie) Vampires that are immune to daylight Voldemort and his Death Eaters Zombies
You don’t know how many of each there will be, but you get the general feeling the smaller something is, the more of it there will be. (For example, you could expect thousands of Zombies but just a few Dragons)
Time is running out. Which do you choose?"-From Gavin Verhey's Qvember, on Gavinsight

I'm guessing Pohatu goes with the Giant Spider option.
I'm leaning either a Kaiju attack, since most Kaiju are slow and ponderous, and can probably be outran via vehice, or Dinosaurs, since honestly, in a cityscape like New York, a human has a huge advantage against animals, and it's entirely viable to hole up somewhere accessible only by elevator and wait the majority of them out (since the larger carnivores will likely starve to death in short measure, if the rest of humanity is gone and they can't eat their fellow dinosaurs.)
yeah, I'm leaning dinos.

I think I'm pretty much leaning dinos as well, but the types of dinos you'd have to deal with would have a definite affect on your chances of survival.
Big ones like T-rex and Spinosaurus would be easy enough to out run and hiding from them in buildings would be a viable strategy as well. Raptors, those could be a serious problem because buildings wouldn't be as much of an obstacle for them and you can forget about out running them. Then you could potentially have to deal with mid-size predators like Carnotaurus, maybe small enough to bust into some buildings with large enough door or window spaces and large lobbies, also maybe not as easy to out run as T-rex since it's nowhere near as big.
These are just a few well known dinos, doesn't cover all species by any stretch obviously and there are a lot of potentially problematic dino species that could pose serious problems for survival. Even still, compared to most of the other options, dinos are probably the best choice.

Bringing this back, with another question from Gavin Verhey's Qvember game: "You get one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert of your choice, each being a dish you’ve eaten at some point in your life, prepared exactly like it was at your favorite time you’ve eaten it. You can also get a drink pairing for each, if you choose. What are your three dishes, and what’s the story behind them?"

Don't know if they're still around, but I'd have to go with the gyros from Mariner's Pier back in Jamestown. They seem to get a certain level of "char" on the meat that I haven't seen in other gyroses (gyros? gyrosii? gyrados?), and in addition to the fresh veggies and tzatiki sauce, they include some feta cheese and some sort of salad dressing. It's a very bold, intense take on the gyros, and even places like the state fair and some Greek places in central NY have yet to match it.
As for the appetizer and dessert? Let's go all in on this street food thing, and say a blooming onion from the state fair, and then either an ice cream cone for dessert (I personally like pairing Kahlua almond amaretto and cannoli), or maybe a deep fried peanut butter, fluff, and banana.
(I suppose if not blooming onion, maybe the fries from the livestock auction in Springville, NY? You wouldn't think they'd be the height of culinary skills, but the foodstand there makes enough curly-cut fries that a family of four can get an order for like $5, and live off it for the day, and they're really flavorful and fresh cut. Or maybe, if I went with a different main course, there's a field green salad from Pizzeria Uno, with goat cheese, glazed walnuts, gigantic fresh blue berries, and a blueberry vinaigrette.)

Yokohama cheesecake from Mangia Mangia in the Yokohama landmark tower, it is literally to die for, absolutely exquisite, worth the volumes of pain experienced due to my gluten intolerance =P (their pizza is also a dream but that's irrelevant in comparison)
Salt and chilli tofu, when tofu is fried to its crispiest, it becomes truly divine, I have this dish too regularly because a place near me can get it almost as well as a random noodle cart I encountered in Kyoto where I fell in love with the dish back in 2006
The last one is really stupid... I think I was either 12 or 13, pizza hut had a crazy promotion of sorts and were doing an 18 inch pizza, my best friend and I ordered an 18 inch and a large stuffed crust, both margarita, and pretty much challenged them on the phone to put as much cheese on it as possible.... There was cheese everywhere... Sauce too... But the cheese, whenever the driver had taken a corner, it had shifted somewhere or another, one side of the stuffed crust was completely submerged in cheese, the other stripped bare.... It was glorious... We tried our damn hardest to eat both between us, but had to call defeat, I still remember my friend lying there, monty python and the holy grail in the background, "I can't eat anymore.... ok maybe this piece of cheese" and literally grabbing a piece of cheese, that had solidified by this point, nearly the size of a small slice of pizza. Attempting a couple of bites before practically wimpering and lying back down in a food coma. He kept encouraging me to have a cheese sandwich with all the leftovers the next day, I believe I made some sort of unholy concoction of pizza with as much of the leftover cheese that wasn't part cardboard. Not the smartest idea the day before a grading competition for trampolining, both of us were ridiculously bloated and let's be honest no one wants to see a chubby 13 year old in whites and leotard with cheese sweats

If I ever get to Yokohama, I'll have to try that. It sounds divine.
Next question: You get to speak for three hours with any writer or artist in history, but only about artisitc matters and improving your own work. Who do you choose?
