The sun had just fallen beneath the horizon as Alexxia stepped out of the Pokemon Center in Saffron City. She hummed to herself absent mindly as she roamed the streets, walking through the twilight as the stars above flickered to life like some strange kind of fairy lights on a navy backdrop. All around, people were still active, though there were significantly less than there had been when she had arrived. It had been here first night in Saffron for a while, and she was seeking that fun atmosphere she had gotten so many times before, in the night-driven area of Saffron City. Saffron, like Celadon City, had an area of the city dedicated to night clubs and the like, but unlike Celadon City, these night clubs were not Adults Only, and welcomed everyone. She gave a faint smile as she recalled her first encounter with one of these clubs, when her older brother had taken her.
Turning a corner, she reached her destination. She knew, instantly, that she was in the right place. People were dancing in the streets to the music that poured from the clubs, the strobe and disco lights lighting the area magnificently. It seemed almost a law that the club owners put similar lights on the outside of the building that they had inside. It did not attract from business at all - people still flocked inside the clubs for a more indoorsy atmosphere, or else to get refreshment. Alexxia practically melted into the dancing crowds, feeling right at home as she grooved. Massive television screens dotted around showed the videos for the music being played, a good few people stopping dancing to stare at them. Alexxia ignored them, however, as she spun and twirled her way through and around the crowd, letting herself go to the music.
"Hey mister DJ," she sung along to the song playing, dancing as she did so. She swayed and spun and waved and twirled, her movements flowing with the tune and the lyrics. She had her eyes closed, but it did not matter if she hit anyone, because she knew they wouldn't care. Twirling, she opened her eyes, looking into the deep blue eyes of a stranger, eyes so deep she thought she could lose herself in them. She vaguely saw a small smile form on his face before he vanished into the crowd again, leaving her standing there for a moment before the music gripped her again and she was swaying and twirling once more. "Put a record on now..."
She swayed to a stop as the song finished, and smiled to herself as the next song started. However, her smile was cut short when the next song was cut off by a high pitched beep, and the image on the nearest TV fizzled out, leaving an out-of-tune channel. Frowning now, she switched her attention to the TV, and to the other TVs down the street, seeing that they were all suffering the same problem. The image was doing something now, and Alexxia thought she could see something in all of the interference. Yes, slowly but surely, it was getting back in tune. She hoped for the music to return, but even she, a highly optimistic person, couldn't pretend for long. It was not returning to the reason she wanted to be here. A voice came from the TV, loud and clear.
"Saffron City!" The voice said. It was a loud, strong, confident voice of someone who sounded like he was in his middle twenties. "Such a delight to see you all, especially those enjoying themselves over on Candle Street!" Alexxia's jaw clenched. This person seemed like he was almost talking to her specifically. Something about his voice... It irked her.
"Now, I was here on business, in the Silph Company Building. I politely requested some technology from the Silph President. A prototype of an abandoned project, something he couldn't have possibly have wanted to keep," the person continued. He was visible now. Alexxia was not impressed. He wore a mask. Of course. They all wore masks. It covered his face down to his mouth, stopping just before his upper lip. Additionally, he had a hood, shielding his hair, though Alexxia could see a few strands of ice-blonde on the forehead of the mask.
"Now, would you believe it, your President refused me this technology? I even offered a substantial amount of money. He had nothing to lose! Yet, he still refused me," the voice exclaimed with convincing surprise. Alexxia let out a humorless laugh. "But I have a... back-up plan, shall we say?"
Alexxia's stomach rolled over. This could not be good.
"Scattered about the city are six bombs. They are all linked together, that is to say, they will all detonate simultaneously. However, as I am a fair person, you have two options. The first, of course, is that if your President hands over the technology, I will immediately disengage these bombs myself," this man said, showing a remote control with three buttons. He was wearing black gloves, Alexxia noticed. "The second, is a game. I know that there are going to be some trainers out there who wont be happy with this and will want to disengage these bombs themselves. Because I'm such a nice person, I'll play a little game with you."
Alexxia laughed again, turning quite a few heads. The man chuckled on the screen.
"I can see at least one person who is looking forward to this. I have six riddles for you. Each riddle will reveal the location of a bomb. The bombs are all being guarded by a single pokemon each. To disengage the bomb, you must defeat the guardian, then push the blue button on the bomb itself," the man explained. Out of fear, panic or whatever else, nearly everybody had crammed themselves into the buildings, rather than stay out on the street. Alexxia was one of the few people still out, her eyes locked on the screen.
"What are the riddles, then?" She demanded, her voice surprisingly loud.
"This first two riddles are as follows. One: First class. Two: Second class," the man said. Alexxia's mind was alive now as she tried to figure out these riddles. One thing she needed to know first, though.
"Who are you?" She asked, as she set off in a sprint.
"I'm the Puzzle Master."
