I figured we might as well have a topic for all the people who are playing this game.
So what's everyone rolling with and how much stuff have y'all done?
Currently doing a wood elf sneaky assassin bitch who is basically Rie due to carrying a dagger for every occasion (one for souls, one for paralyze, one for fighting, one for assassinating) but relying on super sniping bow skills for 7/10 encounters.
42x dagger backstab damage is fun.
I keep getting side tracked from the main mission because Bethesda writing is pretty boring, and then occasionally I find a side quest with above average writing (Thieves Guild swoooooooon) and I get pleasantly surprised.

I'm doing what I do best on these games: Trying to do the right thing and also killing people from far away. I've been sniping and sneaking around. My sneak is at like 80-something.

I am a level 50 dragonplate juggernatrix with 100 in smithing, heavy armor, block, one-handed, two-handed, and archery. Kneel, and be culled.

keep that sneak going. Shadow warrior + backstab buffs is amazing.

Yeah, I get the 15x damage with dagger backstabs, but I run the risk of being caught if I get close whereas I can oneshot most enemies with my bow.

After a certain point in the game, the bow sneak attacks aren't good enough for one hit kills, and at around that 80+ sneak range that you're at, if you cast muffle and find a good shadow, no one will detect you until they are touching you. Although, 15x dagger isn't quite enough yet. You'll need the Dark Brotherhood gauntlets that they give you for joining which stack with the perk for 30x backstab, which means pretty much anything that's not a boss gets insta-killed. Also wabbajack is a way of life. You just gotta roll with it. Also also, I've decided to take a break from sneaking. Me and the Markarth housecarl (Lydia died )are just running around while he runs up and bashes people while I DPS with arrows or Mehrunes Razor. While my character can't take anything on in single combat, she is plenty fine with a beefy Nord dressed in boons from the Daedric princes on her side.

My sneak just hit 91. I have no idea where the Dark Brotherhood is at though.
I can usually get the cutscene where I slit the person's throat with the dagger. I've done that to take out a few dungeon bosses. It's just I have to sneak around their guards to do so usually.

I was going to play Skyrim, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I took your advice with the dagger sneaking and muffle. I was underestimating my sneak.
Now that I know this, I enchanted an ebony dagger with Soul Trap and named it Your Eternal Reward.

I was upset. I ran into a glitch on a Companions quest where I couldn't advance because I didn't complete an unrelated side-quest prior to this. I lost 8+ hours of gameplay.
I used console commands to over-compensate myself in light of this.

So... I started playing the game after picking it up from Steam's Great Gift Pile sale for 33% off...holy shit, those water textures are gorgeous (my laptop could run it on high settings).
Unfortunately, my Skyrim playing time is suspended until I get my new laptop back from Toshiba after they take their sweet time making repairs (read: swap in new HDD and extract a base "image" onto it), as humpty dumpty took a tumble to the floor on the city bus when the driver slammed on the brakes as the laptop was reading data off the HDD. Dammit ;_;

I thought you were a compiter guy and therefore able to do hardware maintenance yourself.
You save yourself a ton of time and money if you know how to buy things cheap but quality over newegg and stick them in yourself.

My video card is dying. I was running Skyrim on maxed out settings and now it's creeping along on medium ones. Luckily, I've got a better one coming in the mail.

@ch00bs: Well... I am, yeah. But the thing is, the HDD failed when the read/write head came into contact with the platter. Which means I'd have to buy a new one to replace the failed one...and while the prices are slowly creeping down from what they were before, I'd sitll be spending at least $100. My new laptop has been used for not even a month and a half. I'll let Toshiba bear the cost of that by the way of warranty that came with the computer. @kuro: Awesome What's the card?

oh, well that makes sense. Also I guess I forgot to share this impulse buy with everyone since this thread didn't exist two days before Skyrim came out

@choobs: Ooh, that looks like a nice card...hope it's doing well n_n @kuro: The 6970 is a beautiful card...if you don't mind the noise. Hope you enjoy many a beautiful textures that DX11 hardware can bring to our eyes @topic: So, out of curiosity. What setups are everyone running in their machines? For the sake of simplicity, let's just say the CPU, RAM, and GPU.

I've got an AMD Phenom II x4 955, 8Gb RAM, and today I'll be installing the 6970.
I'm going to eventually upgrade to the bulldozer chip and get 16-32 Gb of RAM. (Why? Because I can.)

CPU: Core i5 2.67Ghz RAM: 4GB GPU: Radeon HD 6870 Case: NZXT H2 (just wanted to post a picture to this because it's super sexy) I chose the wrong upgrade path for my CPU so I'm pretty much at the maximum of performance to price, but I mean, the bottleneck for gaming is pixel pushing, not CPU power. I've thought about upgrading RAM, but I don't do any heavy lifting on this computer besides games, so the macbook's probably getting that upgrade. Oh I also have a mechanical keyboard that I absolutely adore but I guess that's not part of the actual box?

Of course the damn card didn't work when I installed it. I thought my power supply was more powerful than it was, but it was only 650 (I could've sworn it was 1000) so I had to go buy a new one. Previously the on-board GPU wouldn't work either, but after installing the new 850w supply, it comes on fine. The 6970, however, is still not displaying so I am trying to do a BIOS upgrade... only to have my floppy drive fall apart and no thumbdrives anywhere to be found. And of course my external drive is too big to use, so I had to go to Walmart to get a 2Gb thumbdrive. Hopefully this works and I don't have to rage myself to sleep.
