OOC: Some people know of things called "Tension" and "Pacing". Really, it makes the dismemberment much more fulfilling than digging in right from the start.

OOC: **** it. I'm getting this show on the road despite certain individuals making a conscious effort to avoid BRINGING THE PLOT TOGETHER.
BIC: Laranja trailed Jahi by a few paces, not so enthused about the chore. On the other hand, it did get her on the good side of the school's resource officer. Not that he really ever did anything more than give stern looks to kids roughhousing in the hallways, and once took a penknife from some kid that had been using it to peel the apple that came with his lunch... But still, faculty was best befriended. Easier to worm out of trouble that way.
She licked her lips as she passed through the gym supply room. She never had really cared for dark places. It wasn't a phobia, some kind of irrational fear, but the dancer loathed the feeling of being unable to fully comprehend and sense the world around her. She pushed past a cart of basketballs, rusted wheels screeching as they scraped across the floor. Laranja gave the cart a soft kick. The farther she got into the room, the worse the feeling became.
A tickle at the back of her throat caused Laranja to cough lightly. She covered her mouth, and noted that there seemed to be an extraordinary ammount of dingy, grey-green dust accumulated right around the door. Cursing the ineptitude of the janitors, she tracked through it and to the stairwell. Other than the light at the base, there weren't any lights until the top. It wasn't pitch black, but it was rather murky.
Groping for the handrail, Laranja took the first two steps in a stride. As she tried to ascend again, the toe of her sneakers snagged on the underside of a tread, and she tumbled to her knees.
"****!" She spat, catching herself with her hands. She stumbled to her feet, blood dripping from the large scrapes that the stairs had left on her palms.
"Why do they even need this stupid sandpaper stuff? Buncha crap! They say it keeps from slipping, but not much help when the morons build the stairs like this! Urgh!" Laranja proceeded to stomp up the rest of the flight. When she reached the landing, she paused for a moment, and wiped the blood off of her hands on her shorts. They could be replaced. The shirt couldn't.
She rose from where she had leaned, clenching her fists and rubbing her fingertips against the fresh cuts to examine the wounds. Nothing too bad. Just shallow tracks, really. Probably would heal before the week was over. She began to step up, and heard something behind her. Some shape fluttered at the field of her vision, like a flag in the wind. A noise, the gurgle of somebody choking on their own blood, rose up behind her and proceeded to richochet all around her. In the cacophony, Laranja went to turn.
"Aaron, stop-" Laranja's mouth stopped. Her mind stopped. Her heart stopped. Something that wasn't human... Something that was beyond human... It was lurching up the stairs towards her. One arm hung by a thread, dragging along the steps with a sick thumping noise. Dull red dots were seemingly placed at random on the creature's head, each one glowing like the tail of a firefly. It took another heaving stump, its more normal appearing arm reaching out for Laranja as if it was beckoning.
"Kuuuuuuuu..." It hissed, bubbles appearing on its mouthless face. As the bubbles popped, a dark fluid, looking almost like blood, oozed from them. Part of the arm slithered off, falling through a hole in the stairs and landing somewhere below with a fetid plop. Laranja felt tears running down her cheeks, maybe the last she would ever get to shed...
A sharp note from Jahi's violin pierced the darkness, and Laranja felt her heart suddenly start beating again. She turned, sprinting up the stairs as quickly as she could muster. The choking beast seemed to increase its pace, its hissing growing closer with every moment. Laranja mustered all of her might, and leapt to the final step. She spun, and slammed her full weight against the bar of the door. It swung open, and she tumbled out into the sunlight, landing on her back.
"Jahi... JAHI!" She scrambled to her feet, grabbing him by the shoulders. "There is something in the stairway!" As if on cue, the voice, louder and clearer than before, rose up.
"Meeeeeeeee..." The sound ceased as what sounded like a strangled cough came from the other side of the door. A mass of fine tendrils began creeping under the door, intertwined grey and a palid green. Thicker ones appeared around the hinges, encirling them and then plunging back into the shadows again.
"Oh GOD!" Laranja grabbed Jahi's arm, pulling herself closer to him. As the group instinctively stepped away from the abomination beyond their understanding, the door began to creak. Cracks appeared in the bricks by the doorframe, and the metal holding it into place began screaming under the stress.
OOC: Well, now things get... Well, messy.

Jahi's jaw dropped. Something had just trapped the group on the roof and by the screaming Laranja was doing it was something horrible. Jahi pulled Laranja off his arm and pulled her close to his chest, hiding her eyes against his shirt. A stern expression washed over him as he held his crying friend tight against his chest. A quick glance was made to Ariel and Jahi motioned for her to come over to him as quickly as possible. Jahi's eyes began darting around the roof, looking for anything that could be used as a weapon, when he spotted a loose steel rod laying next to an air conditioner unit.
"Lara...Listen to me. I want you and Ariel to get down that tree over there and to the ground. Get to Officer Verner and I won't be far behind. I'm going to give you a window of time to get down there, but go a quick as you can. If you would take my violin that would be great as well." Jahi said as he pulled Laranja's chin up and pulled himself away.
Without saying anything else, Jahi broke into a run towards the rod and snatched it up like a sword. He moved back to the door which was showing signs that it was worse for the wear. Jahi paused for a moment and then struck at the still shut door with the rod, causing a loud metallic ring to burst forth. Once the vibration of the hit had ceased, Jahi turned towards the two girls still on the roof.
"GO! Get to officer Verner!"
OOC- Jahi is wielding his rod...lol

After seeing Laranja come running up the stairs screaming, Ariel could feel herself breathing shallowly. She was very scared, very close to hyperventilating. Suddenly she found herself very angry that Ace had left. He was just pulling around the corner of the building on his bike, She pulled off her shoe which was a pretty sturdy sneaker and hit him in the head with it. She didn't have the best aim but from the roof it was easy.
She ran past Laranja towards the tree and practically flew down the tree, leaving Laranja behind. Ariel once on the ground ran to get the police officer she was surprisingly fast for her size. As she ran past Ace she picked up her shoe that she had thrown at him. "Come on" She yelled over shoulder as she kept running. "We might need your help! Hurry!"
Gasping for breath, she rounded the corner and spotted Aaron and Officer Verner, still waiting around as they had before.
"Some creep has Laranja and Jahi trapped on the roof! I think he's trying to kill them!" She shrieked, her voice painfully shrill.
"What?" Verner stood up, hand going to his belt almost immediately. He started to reach for his radio, but was stopped by Ariel pulling on his arm.
"If we don't go now, they're going to die! Whatever it was already cut Laranja up really bad!" Ariel knew she was twisting the truth slightly, but she HAD to get help for those two. She didn't know if Laranja was any good at climbing, and Jahi wouldn't budge until either Laranja was safe, or he died in the effort. Verner responded as she had hoped, his hand going to his holster instead.
"You better not be kidding. If this is a joke, you'll be suspended until some time next year." Verner said sternly, and then turned. He sprinted for the door, quickly vanishing into the hallways of the school. Ariel followed him, though with how exhausted she was, the best she could manage was a power-walk. She didn't want to be in the thick of things, but if they were going to need help...

"What the **** is that thing?!" Aaron shouted. He didn't mean to shout, but the fear that was rising inside of him was wreaking havoc with his mind. What the hell was that thing? He didn't hesitate to follow Laranja and Jahi up the stairs and into the sunlight, praying irrationally that whatever it was didn't like sunlight. He knew he was wrong, though, as the monster started trying to break down the door.
"Jahi, what are you doing?" Aaron asked. The boy was holding a metal rod. Then, he attacked the door, and Aaron understood. He was going to protect Laranja. Quickly, he followed Jahi's lead, and looked around for something he could use as a weapon. There wasn't huge amounts, bit there were a few bits of debris from who knew what. Quickly, he snatched up a piece of scrap metal, another rod. This one was quite long, and he held it like a staff. Part of his dancing he had done involved him using a stick in a very spinning, dizzying routine, so hopefully that might help.
"Jahi, do you have a plan?" Aaron asked. Jahi had taken a surprising amount of control of the situation, so if the violinist had a plan, Aaron would follow it.

"We need to get Laranja down that tree and on the ground, then you're getting out of here. I'm taking the rear. The only thing that matters is that we all get out of here safely and I have the best chance to fight this thing off. No offense but you don't have alot of bulk to ya. Get Laranja down that tree and then see if you can find some rocks or something so we can make a bit of a door jam." Jahi shouted as he struck the door as hard as he possibly could.
"Laranja, if you get off this roof right now I will do anything for you whatsoever. I promise you, now get down!!" Jahi shouted as he struck at the door again in an attempt to drive the creature back as long as he could.
OOC- Very short, but not alot to do.

Ace's bike wobbled as the shoe pegged him in the head, he grabbed the break and came to a quick halt, looking up at the roof. There seemed to be a great deal of panic, and the roof access appeared to be sealed off. He revved his bike, to keep the engine going, then peeled out, heading back towards the tree.
He quickly popped his kickstand, and scampered up the tree, passing Laranja at the edge of the roof. "Yo!" He said, in passing, heading for the violinist. Only then did he stop, in mid-step, and look at the door. Tentacles, something had tentacles, and was pounding weakly on the door, like it wanted out. Jahi seemed to be returning the pounding favor.
"Right!" Ace said, pulling a pair of black gloves out of his pocket. The knuckles contained deer shot, and excellent weapon if you didn't want to screw up your hand. He took a quick two step towards the door, and delivered a steady power punch right to the middle. It dented inwards about a foot, and the tentacles withdrew from under the door. They could all hear a faint thump from the other side.
"Right, I think its about time we were leaving then. You agree?" He asked Jahi, "Just grab the girl and climb down if she's afraid of highs or something."

"I might not have the bulk, but I can move when I want to," Aaron said, hiding his fear under a layer of bravado. "I'll stay with you as long as Laranja's still up here." What was he saying? Had being scared out of his wits blown a completely new personality into him? If it was any other day, he wouldn't be sticking around to help people he barely even knew, he'd have been long gone by now. Aaron tightened his grip on the metal in his hand. No point worrying about it now.
OOC- Short again, but I'm not being forgotten :3

Laranja had frozen up, trembling behind Jahi, Aaron, and Ace's defense. She wanted to move, but it felt like roots had grown from feet, straight down into the rooftop. Forcing herself with all of her will, she attempted to step back. Her legs moved, but-
She glanced down, and saw the reason that she had been unable to move. A web of green tendrils, each only the width of a strand of yarn, but far too numerous to count, had laced itself around her sneakers, intertwining with the laces, and actually digging in loops through the rubber in places. She slipped out of the shoes as quickly as she could muster, wincing as she stepped onto the rooftop proper. It was then that the full realization hit her.
"GUYS! Below!" Laranja leapt away from the growing vines, a small section of the roof caving in with a loud crunch. As the grey dust billowed upwards, there was the sound of a nauseous sounding hissing. Something landed on the roof beside Laranja, a noise like a full garbage bag falling out the back of a truck. A slimy green arm, terminating in a digitless mitt, swiped at her. She ducked the blow, and the swipe struck on of the air vents, folding the metal pipe like it was straw. The creature hobbled out of the haze, a large piece of its featureless head falling off. Eyes oozed up from beneath the surface, quickly replacing the ones that had been lost. They shifted, all beginning to point towards Laranja. She evaluated the situation... Between the monster and the hole in the crumbling roof, it was pretty much impossible to reach the tree... But if the creature was here, it couldn't be in the school still. Laranja darted past Jahi, getting as close as she could to the metal door. -------- Verner turned a corner on the stairwell, his gun now at the ready. He had seen large pools of blood on the floor when he had first left the supply room, and the least that could cause that sort of thing would still be an injury worth a visit to the hospital. He stayed focused straight through the sights of his gun, moving at a brisk pace. As he came to the final flight, he saw something that was supposed to be only in the realm of nightmares. A ghastly beast flailed against the door with inhuman strength, each blow tearing chunks out of the metal. Impacts from the other side of the door rained upon it without injury, the abomination disregarding them as nothing more than trifles.
A sudden impact from the other side of the door struck the rotting creature in the chest, sending it flying back against the far wall. It splattered, an overly ripe fruit thrown against the pavement. Streams of a dark ichor ran down the stairs, making them slick and shiny in the sparse light. The creature wasn't dead, however. Sliding to the floor, it shot back up its feet, not so much moving its body as transforming pieces of itself to be where it wanted them to be.
"I don't know what you are... But-" Verner fired three times quickly, well aware of the dangers of shooting in the enclosed area. The bullets ripped through its head, each leaving a fist-sized hole and a slight wisp of steam rising from the wounds. However, the creature ignored these injuries much like itsearlier ones, sliding across the floor towards the stairway, with Verner and Ariel at the bottom.

Ariel saw the monster, and wasn't as scared as she had been. She thought she could remember seeing things similar to it in nightmares. She figured that this was just another nightmare. "What are you doing?" She yelled at Verner. "Pump more lead into the fool!"

Jahi backed up a bit at the sight of the mass of goo that appeared to be slightly humanoid and began to sweat. He tossed his bar towards Jason and backed up a few more steps and grabbed Laranja's waist from behind his back. A sudden wave of a need to protect his younger friend began to take over everything else. The survival instinct kicked in and Jahi began to act without thinking properly. Jahi pulled Laranja up onto his back and turned towards the door. With a quick kick to the weakened metal, the door fell away down the stairs and into the storage room below.
"Get down the stairs and away from that damn thing!" Jahi shouted towards the two guys above and he himself with Laranja on his back began down the steps in leaping strides.
Half way down the stairs Jahi noticed another form made out of the same substance as the one above. Jahi's heart seemed to freeze in his chest. They were stuck in between two gaint globs of goo that were far more powerful than anything he could imagine. A lump formed in Jahi's throat as he stopped dead in his tracks. Slowly he lowered Laranja from his back and then whipped around to face her, taking a shoulder in each hand so that she could only look at him.
"Lara, I want you to look at me and nothing else. We're in deep right now...Let's just say that I've been fantastic knowing you."
OOC- Jahi gets down hearted. Fun fun fun.

Aaron followed Jahi quickly, letting his brain stop worrying and his survival instincts work their magic. At the moment, the only thing he could think about doing was putting as much distance between him and those things as possible. And the adrenaline flowing through his system was giving him so much energy, if he weren't running for his life he'd be able to pull off an amazing dance routine. If he wasn't running for his life, he'd laugh at that thought, but there were still more pressing matters.
Like the second creature blocking the exit. He clutched the metal pole he'd grabbed earlier tight. Somewhere in his brain, he was still determined to fight if he had to, just in case he could live through this. "I know I'm probably not the guy you'd choose to spend your last moments with," Aaron said, his voice sounding strange, like it wasn't his. "But... it's been a pleasure." With that, he raised the metal rod. His body felt numb and empty, registering nothing but shock. This wasn't how he wanted to die.

Ace quickly followed the three, and bumped into the police officer on the way down. His fast hands quickly picked up the officers weapon, and a spin allowed him to grab on to the baton as well. As he caught up, he put his foot on the violinists back, and catapulted over him, smacking one of the jelliton apparitions in the face, and sweeping the baton through the others legs.
The two entities, momentarily broken up over themselves, flailed about wildly for two entertaining moments, before Ace turn to Jahi. He slowly drew his fist back, and wailed him a good street fighter punch right in the side of the jaw.
"You want to just curl up and die?" He yelled, "Where is your resolve? Your spirit? Are you a man, or a wild animal giving itself to the hunter?" Jason took a step forward, grabbing Jahi by the throat. He nearly lifted him off his feet, and looked up at him with a harsh scowl on his face. "Did you leave you balls inside your mother?!" He shouted, spittle flying at Jahi. "You'd give up and let even her die with you!?" He raged, gesturing to Laranja, "You'd give up without even a fight, without even defending her? Is that the kind of man you are, a coward?!"
Jason shoved Jahi away, letting go of his neck. His face showed clear disgust towards the man's actions. "Well?!" He yelled, "Answer me! Are you a man, a protector, or are you a weak animal filled with fear? Chose!" He said, forcefully lifting the officers gun up in front of him, the grip towards Jahi. "CHOOSE!" Jaon bellowed, forcing the gun towards him.

"Hey" Ariel shouted at ace, "Lay off dumb***! It's not like the gun even does anything." She snatched the gun meant for Jahi. "Besides I've noticed when in danger the more primordial instinct would be to lash out in a last ditch attack. Similar to what you did" She sniffed. "Just like a dog at bay..." Ariel turned around and started to walk away when she noticed the two monsters Ace had supposedly demolished reforming and taking shape. "I guess they're not as easy to dispose of as you assumed." She said nervously, stepping behind the guy whom she had just insulted.

OOC: And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...
BIC: Verner started to protest the loss of his weapon, but he didn't have time. The tread beneath him collapsed, the step torn down from beneath by a sickly green tentacle. He cried out wordlessly as he plunged through the stairway and out of sight. There was the sickly noise of a brutal impact, accompanied by the sound of something bursting. Verner screamed again, this time much more ragged and pitiful. Ripping noises came from beneath the stairwell, each accompanied by further cries of anguish, each one getting quieter. After one last choking cry, Verner was silent.
"My God..." Laranja could only cling to Jahi, hiding her face. Tears were all that she could manage at this point, soaking into her friend's shirt. A gust of wind blew her hair back, and there was a loud noise from the stairway. Laranja glanced up despite herself, and saw a figure standing silouetted by the light. The figure was short and burly, a thick bear hanging long from his face. He held what appeared to be a tasseled staff in one hand, the tassels blown by the wind.
The creature at the top of the stairway seemed to instantly notice his presence. Its eyes shifted around to the back of its form, and it lurched back up the steps towards him.
"Get out of here, idiot!" Ariel shouted, but the man seemingly ignored her. Indeed, he didn't even dignify the nightmare beast with so much as a glance. The creature let out an unearthly wail, its speed increasing at it clambered towards its new target. It threw out a hand with enough force to hammer through steel, meeting the man's gut. He was hurled back against the wall with a grunt, and slammed into the wall at the top of the stairway.
"As I had thought..." The man spoke, his voice thick with an accent unknown to the youths. He shunted another blow from the beast aside with the staff, and ignoring his injuries, spun around the beast. Not facing the creature, he lashed behind himself with the tasseled end of the stave. It plunged into the amorphous thing, and through it completely. He stepped forwards, a measured, practiced pace, and withdrew the weapon. In an instant, the creature lost cohesion, and slopped down through the steps in a cascade of sickly liquid.
"No time for explanations... You five will have to do," The man swung the stick back over again, arcing it back towards the group and striking it on a step. There was a flash of white light, and the entire world went blank. -------- "Wha- Huh? What?" Laranja opened her eyes, feeling the sunlight pouring down upon her. She laid still for only a moment, and then rolled onto her side, feeling the distinct discomfort of the ground beneath her. It was lumpy, damp. A familiar, sweet smell filled the air around her. Something that reminded her of autumn, the brisk cold in the air...
"A dream, right?" She asked to nobody in particular, rolling to her hands and knees. Beneath her, she felt the stickiness of crushed plant stems. Corn. She glanced around. She was in the midst of a young cornfield, the plants still not grown beyond the height of one's shins. All around her, the others in the group were all sprawled on their backs, only now starting to stir.
"I'm afraid not, child," The voice, same accent as before, spoke. Clad in a stiff brown fabric that uncomfortably stood away from his body in both the shirt and trousers he wore, his greying beard blowing in the wind along with the strips of curled bark dangling from the long stick he held to the side, the man stood over the five youths.
"Whoa!" Laranja lept to her feet, tatters of orange fabric fluttering away from her. She took a step away from the man, feeling the cornstalks crushed beneath her feet. She started to take another step, and then paused. This man had saved them all... Somehow.
"What happened?"
"I managed to get you all clear of the Kemus-Kumi. This was the nearest spot that was away from prying eyes..."
"Where are we? And who are you? How long have I been asleep?" Laranja moved towards the man.
"To answer your questions in order, we are in a field of what you people call 'corn' at the fringe of your city-"
"City? What have you been smoki-"
"My name was lost long ago. Too long for anybody but myself to need know of it. The only name that matters for my now... Is my title. Mici."
"Mici? A little girly, if you ask me."
"That would be the inherent difference in our cultures, child. In the land and time that I come from, it means 'Ancestral Father'," The man's ruddy brow furrowed slightly, his knotted headband rising ever so slightly. Seeing that Laranja had been silenced for a moment, he spoke again.
"It has been half an hour, give or take, since I rescued you. I apologize for your slumber, but it was neccesary for the procedure."
"Procedure?" Laranja asked nervously. The man merely gestured towards her with the stick, a breeze pushing against her. Laranja shivered, feeling a cold breeze pushing against her chest. The sensation... She glanced down. Her t-shirt was torn roughly at the neck, down to slightly past her collar bone. Though she was shocked by this, she was further distraught by what else she saw. A metal stud, about the size of a bottlecap and covered in an intricately engraved dark pattern, projected from the skin a several inches up from her heart. She went to put her hand to it.
"I'd advise you not to mess with that. It should be able to handle slight duress, but it's really not best to fiddle with such things."
"Say what?"
"Quite simply put, that relic saved your life... But if you aren't careful, it might cost you it. Truly, explanation would be best delivered to all of you at once..." The man held up his hand, quieting Laranja. The other five began to awaken, each one of them having similar damage to their clothes and with a similar piece of metal poking out of their chest.

Jahi rolled onto his side and found a sharp edge of a stone on the ground. Cursing quietly to himself, Jahi pushed up to his feet a bit shakily as he pulled the bottom of his shirt to stop his bleeding. With the simple movement Jahi found that his shirt was in shreads and his chest was exposed to the cold breeze, a freezing metal object protested in his chest. Something seemed very out of place, something had just drastically changed. In a sudden flood of memory, Jahi snapped around looking for the monster that had just been attacking only to find Laranja and some other man standing nearby while the others were laying on the ground around him.
"What exactly is going on here?" Jahi asked Laranja and made a reference to the man nearby.
Jahi began the short distance towards Laranja, stepping over Ariel in the process. Pulling off his shirt and removing a strip of it to wrap around his hand, Jahi joined Laranja. Even with the brisk breeze, the sunlight felt good. It wasn't often that Jahi enjoyed having his shirt off, but given the situation, this could have been alot worse. The purple strip around the Egyptian mans hand began to turn a black shade as his blood seeped into the fibers and the wound stung from the grit on the ground. As soon as he knew what was going on he would have to clean his wound properly, but there were more important things to deal with.
"You've got alot of explaining to do. Like what did you do to us?"

Ace got up calmly, though he was somewhat loath to tear his gaze away from the sky. He found the soft blue so very calming after all. "Not sure what he did exactly, however." Ace said, fingering the relic in his chest. "I can say with more than a little certainty that this is not normal. In fact, it shouldn't even be possible." He frowned at the stone in his chest.
"I must assume that we have either been exposed to a sort of lost, ancient magic, lost with humanity's collective consent. Or that we have been exposed to a very persistent for of high tech. If the latter of the two, I'd be forced to assume nanotechnology." Ace sighed, brushing his hair out of his eye's.
"I'd say that because my heartbeat is irregular and feels like its pumping a lot harder around an obstruction." He looked worried, but privately thought that his heart didn't seem to be having any trouble with it.
"So, what exactly are we now?" He asked the man, completely calm. He had the smooth face of a man who knew he was at a disadvantage, and intended to ride it out until he found one. Anything else would be procrastination, and entirely useless in its effect.

Ariel woke up hearing Laranja talking with the old man. She fought the initial urge to move, and listened quietly. After a person stepped over her she sat up, by that time almost everyone was standing up. She preferred sitting to standing, so she just pulled her knees to her chest, glancing down she noticed her shirt was torn. She also noticed the piece of metal protruding from her chest. Ace was talking about Nano technology. “Ok Ace, let’s think about this, a man dressed like that.” She nodded at the man. “Does he look like some genius scientist, with futuristic gear. Then again your whole magic conclusion has to be wrong because magic does not exist.” She emphasized the last four words. “So in the mean time stop jumping hair brain conclusions and let the man talk for himself.” Ariel had learned that being attacked by monsters, almost killed, witnessing a death, and being confused made her unusually cranky. Now she turned that anger towards the man. “You responsible for this right?” She asked motioning toward the metal thing, not waiting for an answer she went on. “Well, my parents are both strongly against piercings’, so you had better keep me from getting grounded…Now explain this all in a way that makes sense, before Einstein starts up again.”

"What are you? Why, you're all still humans. Human children. What has happened to you? That... That would be the question to answer," he slowly lowered himself, braced against his staff.
"You all are right in various ways... It is indeed piercing... piercing your heart. Thus the inherent danger of such a thing. A solid blow to it would leave you a wound that not even an expert surgeon could have hope of mending," the man held his staff out, as if to ward off approach.
"However, it was neccessary to save you from the creatures there. Neccessary to save everybody you know. I could explain what those are, but I do believe that it would be better told as the full tale of what happened. I loathe to keep you all in such a tense state, but if you'd be patient, I'll reveal everything that you need to know,"
"So this thing goes THROUGH MY FREAKIN' HEART?" Laranja's voice rose, just below a scream.
"It's neccessary to prevent an infestation by those creatures... Even death would be preferable to an infestation by those creatures."
"I'm not sure I buy what you're saying yet..."
"You will. Now, listen to me, and I will explain it al-"
"'better."
"As I said... Anyways, this tale begins thousands of years ago. Before you lived, before your parents lived... Before this country had become free. It began in Japan, though that was not what we called it in those days..." The man's look grew distant, and his voice started coming from deeper within him.
"It was back when my people, the Utari, were still off significance in this Japan that you people know. Life was difficult, but we survived-"
"You mean you were around back then?" Laranja cocked an eyebrow.
"Child, do not question until you know the full story... As I had been saying, life was difficult, but not threatening, at the moment. My family, I the eldest son, had that change, though. We saw what appeared to be a comet descending from our skies, and crashing into the nearest lake..."
"Such a thing did concern us as an omen, but we had little time to ponder it. Something that wasn't human emerged from the lake only moments later, and began to attack anything and everything with a peculiar sword of his... He didn't try to kill them, only to make them bleed. And where ever blood was spilt, those creatures arose... The Kemus-Kumi. They would attack anything and everything around them, hoping to kill or cripple the victims..."
"The ones that fell to them returned only as something... Not living, or at least, not human. They were warped monstrosities, more powerful than any of the Kemus-Kumi...."
"I fled. I fled until I came upon the nearest settlement of those that you call the Japanese... I warned them, but they ignored me until the slaughter began... Needless to say, the situation darkened considerably. The creatures, invincible to any human weapon, simply continued killing, and growing in number, until they had become an army."
"The leaders throughout the lands were convinced to band together, until the threat was overcome. Understanding that we could not hope to defeat such monsters with our weaponry, we gathered the greatest of ours minds."
"We may not have technology in those days like the present, but we did understand some things better. The flow of energy, of the life around us. I was there, as one of the most experienced with the beasts, as well as masters of Feng-Shui, acupuncture, the martial arts, and the greatest blacksmiths in the entire continent. Minds came from all over, even some from what you all know as China, today."
"We discovered a method that allowed us to create suits of armor, and use them to tie the energy flows of multiple bodies together. This allowed them to fight at a much greater potential than any normal human being..." The man paused, frowning bitterly.
"It was still a slaughter. Our five people, the most stable number we could send, were all matches for one Kemus-Kumi... But it refused to die. It survived all attempts against its life, healing, and it eventually killed all five of our people. After the first, the link was broken, and they were slaughtered."
"We attempted once more, and this time, designed the suits with conduits that channeled the user's energy into every attack. These suits, much more powerful, were designed to actual be stored within the earth itself, and to form itself around its users when needed, instead of permanently impaling them. However, since they needed to be anchored at the key point-" He gestured towards the stud on Jahi's chest.
"They were vastly more dangerous. Perhaps as residual spite, blaming my people for the plague, the first five were Utari like myself. They achieved great success in battle, singlehandedly destroying dozens of enemies. They drove back the creatures, destroying all of them until they reached the first being..."
"He slaughtered them. However, his mind changed for some reason, he seemingly dissappeared. Afraid that he would return, the leaders implanted me with conduits to the link, and ensured that I would not grow older while I was linked to a group of people in the five part-power... I've been at war with the enemy for hundreds of years now, and have seen dozens of teams die in order to fight the menace... Wenpe."
"It is now up to you five to drive back this threat, to protect your city against his monsters, and to eventually face him. If you do not, everybody you know will innevitably be slaughtered. It up to you to take on the suits of the five part power, the Asikne Kirore."
OOC: Exposition is long and boring, but now you know the rough setup. I figure, answer a round of reactions and questions, and then in my next post, we suit up and go after the monsters.
