The spring of 1980. A beautiful year for Raiixia. The air was warm and laced with the scent of the delicate blossoms of the trees. It imbued within the youth a carefree, joyous feeling. This was the year of free love, of brotherhood and harmony, and of rebirth.
I remember the decade before as the decade of peace between the Raiixians and the Eikurr. The successful non-violent demonstration campaigns by young, ambitious Eikurr had acheived some success. My mother, slowly and grudgingly, granted the Eikurr some protected rights, albeit only to appease the international community among talks of racism and tyranny.
This was the year of my sixteenth birthday, and because the atmosphere had become more peaceful, I was allowed to venture out alone to spend some time with my friends. March the twenty-first was the day of the vernal equinox, and against the backdrop of flowers and unity, I matured into womanhood.
Marimai inhaled the sweet, aromatic scent of the flowers and smiled. She had always loved the capital, Ryoriitham, in the springtime. Watching the royal palace garden bloom from the window in her room was magnificent, but to be outside reveling in the vibrant life outside of the palace was much different. The gods had painted the trees brilliant shades of vermilion and orange and violet.
Meticulously, she placed a ruby butterfly hair clip in her dark, shoulder-length, wavy hair. Today, for the festival of the vernal equinox, she would wear her new silky rose dress with her white wedges and pearl necklace. Chanel. She was filled with delight whenever her mother would bring back from Paris a whole new wardrobe for her. Chanel was definitely her favorite.
Outside, Kaina'mei was waiting for her next to the royal carriage. It was scarlet, decorated with golden embellishments, and on the top roosted a golden phoenix with its graceful wings outstretched. Kaina'mei was the daughter of her nanny and teacher, and she had been raised with the older girl. They were inseparable. A princess couldn't ask for a better friend. Kaina'mei's brilliant red hair was always in a bob, and she wore a lovely viridian sundress with a spray of small white flowers along one shoulder.
"You look beautiful today, Marimai," she remarked. "That dress is wonderful on you."
"Thank you. My mother gave it to me for my birthday. You look beautiful too, Kami." Kaina'mei bowed her head in humility and respect as she was always taught to do in front of the royals. Marimai smiled at her and took her by the hand. "It's a gorgeous day, shall we go then?"
"Yes!" The two girls entered the carriage, sat down, and were carried off into the city. Marimai peeked her head outside the window and waved an elegant gloved hand at the adoring spectators on the streets.

OOC: This topic is open to everyone. You have a choice of either creating a one-off character or using an established character who would have been around in 1980. It's a fun freaking spring festival going on, so there's plenty for you to do. Get creative.
