Eros, the near-Earth asteroid, continued it's orbit around the sun as normal. Since it was so small, only small ships were allowed to dock with it; larger ships had to set their autopilot to follow the asteroid.
Eros was neutral territory, and even it wasn't, there was no real point to attacking. Its facilities were relatively simple since one couldn't fit much into the small space. In fact, it couldn't even be rotated to produce artificial gravity, and inhabitants were left floating around. Despite its neutrality in the middle of a war, the health reasons associated with free-fall kept all but maintenance crews from staying too long. There also wasn't enough room to have many rooms to stay in.
The corridors were cramped to save space, barely allowing two people to float side by side. Due to the lack of gravity, multiple rails and handbars adorned all four sides of any corridor for people to grab onto.
Despite the facilities, Eros was a popular stop off for pilots, especially those on their way from Earth to Mars. Since the station wasn't under the law of any of the major governments in the system, the generally unsavory types tended to frequent the place. Eros was also known for serving the best, and only, sciere, a powerful alcoholic beverage, in the entirety of the Sol system. There was one bar on the rock, owned by a man only known as Kevaille, and it was almost always full of people. Kevaille never revealed the secret of making sciere to anyone outside of the family.
Merchants who stopped by on Eros also tended to set up shop to sell ship parts and other wares, be they legal or not, to anyone interested. The law didn't apply there, so it was all fine. The reason Eros was more appealing than the other pirate bases in the system was because of its relative closeness to the major celestial bodies and because no one attempted to mug anyone upon landing. That only happened after someone was falling down drunk.
