As the combatants reached the third arena of the second row the referee rose from the bench he had been sitting on.
"So another pair have come to do battle, eh? Then listen up! There is to be no switching of the pokemon you use. That means that the pokemon you entered with is the one you will use here. There is to be no interfering with the battles that have, or have yet, to start. Finally, there is to be no stalling. You will fight until your pokemon can no longer fight, or until you break down because you can't take it anymore. When I ring the bell, you are to begin your fight."
The referee then walked over to a cart that was resting by the bench. Within the cart was a large bell of similar shape and design to a bell that would be found in a chuch, though somewhat smaller. The referee took a rope in his hands and pulled on it, causing a low, ominous tone to ring out.
BONGBONG
"Begin!"

“Glad to have you as my opponent,” Isambard said with a slight bow, trying to meet the gaze of the shorter girl. He smiled awkwardly, “Not to say you're weak or anything, nothing like that. But I think it's best that we both warm up against somebody with a basic Pokemon. Some of the other trainers came armed to the teeth will all sorts of nasties.” “I think I'll take the lead here,” Isambard didn't want to let on the truth. With his former battle experience spent almost entirely commanding his Dodrio, he really was too focused on proactive battling to try a reactionary set of tactics. He jammed one hand into the breast pocket of his plaid shirt. “Pays-Bas! Let's rock!” With a backhanded toss, he flung a sphere into the middle of the arena. It exploded in a flash of light, and then the luminescence split into a half dozen shards. They rounded off to soft ovals, and the fading glow revealed a rosy beige. Six eggs all turned their eyes towards Evelyn, their pupils all moving in unison. They opened their mouths, and instantly their coordination was broke. Their voices rose, garrulous, each cry reverberating on its own. Soon, the rolling echoes gave rise to an illusion of dozens of quarreling Pokemon, easily overshadowing the sounds of the battles on either side. “Settle down guys, let's work up that tempo later, 'kay?” The eggs tightly clamped their jaws, and soon the echoes began to fade. “We'll start off with Confusion. That's a good one,” Isambard adjusted his collar as the ooform creatures went into their routine. The eggs fell into position, distributed in five points around a central leader. Six pairs of eyes closed slowly. They began vibrating rapidly, each taking on a purple aura. Flamelike wisps of amethyst light began brushing against the other members of the group, soon solidifying into torrents of mental power. The aggregate began to levitate, rising up from the stone floor. Their design shifted as they rose, projecting the pentagon formation into the air. Instantly, twelve eyes snapped open. The accumulated telepathic might shot forth in a powerful thrust, sending pebbles and a stray snack wrapper flying aside as it tore towards the Larvitar. Their energy dissipated, the eggs fell back to the earth with a clatter. In retrospect, I got a bit too fancy. That's what I get for pumping up Psychic Energy while writing this post.
Also, Exeggcute may be my new favorite Pokemon. Or at least close to.

"Nice to meet you too." Evelyn smiled as the boy talked, nodding when he decided to take the lead, since she had been drawing a blank on how best to start this off. She watched as he pulled out a pokeball, Rex having already taken up his spot on her side of the field. Hoping for a type match-up in her favor, Evelyn mentally groaned seeing the egg pokemon take shape when it was released. This was going to be fun. Evelyn chewed at her lip, a long time habit she did when thinking, as she watched the little eggs begin their attack. It was right as they released all that energy that an idea hit her. "Rex, lets start things off with a bang! Dark Pulse!" Rex nodded, and shut his eyes as dark energy gathered around his little body, little whisps flickering here and there. As the enemies attack crossed the center point of the field, Rex unleashed his attack. A thick wave of dark energy sped across the field and right into the burst of telepathic energy, both attacks exploding on impact and creating a cloud of smoke and a shock wave that rocks the field a bit. ugh, sorry for the delay but I have been stressing over finishing my summer school stuff. all my responses will be a little delayed thanks to that because it is top priority right now and i only have a week and a half. sorry for all the delays.

Isambard raised an arm, shielding his eyes against the brilliance of the attack. Though it wasn't as destructive as some of the other moves being flung around in the tournament, the explosion from the collision had left his ears smarting. "Not shabby!" Isambard rubbed at the stubble on his chin as he lowered his arm. "Since she's matching us on the ranged offensive, let's switch to close combat." The eggs nodded as one, a single oval turning to face its trainer. The rest were content with their partner's judgement, focused instead on the immediate threat before them. "Use a Barrage to get in there!" Before Isambard had finished speaking, the half dozen had shifted their formation. Two of them turned inwards, and they then began trembling like they had while charging the Confusion attack. One of their partners rolled into the space between them, and instantly shot across the battlefield as if it had been fired out of a cannon. It arched high, and missed the Larvitar by about a yard. The two psionic cannoneers voiced a few notes to eachother in their echoing, tintanabulous croaks. After the consultation, they nodded to the next one in line. ZMMM! It went shooting towards the reptilian opponent, its course much more accurate. Seeing that they'd drawn a better bead on the target, the other eggs began pushing into the center. With a series of pulsing hums, two more were fired off towards the fledgling dragon. The last pair, bereft of any aids to launch them, rose from the ground. They began orbiting eachother, caught in complex circular patterns as they wove through the air. They rose until they hovered well above Isambard's head, looking down on the battlefield. The humming ceased as both reached the apex of their uneven circulations. The last duo came screaming out of the sky, aimed at catching their opponent from above. OOC: Doing really well so far, Cat. It might sound like I auto hit a few times in the middle, but think of it more like "Lining up a shot." You can still dodge it if you want, though it's usually better to counterattack straight up.

Evelyn couldn't contain the giggles that erupted as she watched the first egg get launched and miss. Another fit of giggles came as the two that had fired the first egg discussed it. Something about the whole attack was deeply amusing to her and just plain cute. Her amusement was short lived as the second egg landed square on Rex's head, making the lil dino squeak, fall on his butt, and flail his lil arms in distress. "Get up Rex, we gotta do something about the others!" Evelyn had watched the other eggs get fired after the second had hit Rex and was already thinking up her next move. She could always just have Rex take a step back to avoid the incoming eggs, but that isn't as fun. Just as the two eggs came into view above she made up her mind. "Alright Rex, rock smash those eggs as soon as they get in range!" Rex nodded, looking up and pulling back one lil arm, readying the attack just as the eggs fell into range. With a loud but cute roar, the little dino pokemon punched his arm up, a streak of light appearing as his lil fist heads right for the two falling eggs. Since those eggs are your pokemon I'm hesitant to auto the attack hitting them so I won't, but I don't see a way for them to get out of the way. On a side note... I PASSED MY FINAL AND AM OFFICIALLY DONE WITH SCHOOL!!

Congratulations, Cat! I wish you well, and good luck in the world at large! CRACK! The punch struck one of the eggs aside violently, sending it caroming across the arena floor. The Larvitar threw another quick blow, knocking aside another one of the component Pokemon. “Ugh…” Isambard regarded the damage. Both of the ones that had been hit were adorned with new fissures spiderwebbing their enamel. Judging from the aggressive role that they had taken in the bombardment, they were the leaders of the group. It wouldn’t do to let them take any more big hits. Even if the dinosaur was stubby and juvenile, it could certainly pack a massive wallop. “Okay, guys, let’s switch it up again. We’ve got adaptability working for us,” Isambard considered making some dramatic gesture, but decided against it. He wasn’t a teenager, after all, “Secret Power!” Each egg knew exactly what to do. They faced earthwards, and then there was a synchronous set of explosions. Each one used a focused edge of telekinetic might as a shovel, ripping up a chunk of the stony ground. The six pieces of earth levitated upwards, swirling dizzily about the eggs that had pulled them free. One released its hold, the rocky soil shooting from behind Rex. Another one let fly, arching the shot from the side. Though each one had little accuracy, they certainly had more than one chance to make it count. With every shot, the ovoid Pokemon let their brethren know of the issues they had in the attack, and their comrades did what they could to rectify the issue. The two that had gone last for the Barrage now tumbled sideways, trying to flank the Larvitar from either side, and then shot the large rocks they had pulled up.

Evelyn gave Rex a few words of praise for the hits before turning her attention back to the eggs as her opponent gave his command. Secret Power? I wonder what that will do. The answer came with the loud explosion sound. "Oh." Rex watched the first rock sail by from behind him, then the second as it sailed over him, a confused noise coming from his slightly open muzzle. "Pay attention Rex." Evelyn had watched the other eggs adjusting their aims, figuring all the chatter was them conferring again. She was proved right as the third sailed right for Rex's head making him squeak as he ducked to avoid it. "Alright Rex, quickly whip up a sandstorm!" The little dino nodded and kicked up some sand almost like a normal sand-attack, but then he clapped his hands and the small sand cloud roared out into a full blown sandstorm, obscurring the middle of the field from sight. The last three rocks were fired almost blindly now, though a loud thunk followed by a squeak was heard from around the area Rex was at last. Thanks ! I'm so happy to be done with school for now.

Well, two and a half weeks, IIRC. But not a problem, not a problem. I should be able to pick the pace up again, now that I've gotten through most of my heavy duty writing projects. "Crud," Isambard watched the sandstorm sweep in, spiralling angrily within the narrow confines of the arena. The eggs would be able to keep track of eachother, considering telepathy’s tolerance for interference, but he had lost the ability to visually coordinate their assault. “Okay, let’s get a workaround going, fellows. On the count of three, fire off a Grass Knot connecting you to all the other eggs in the group. If we can’t see, we’re going to give her an obstacle too,” He looked up, trying to meet Evelyn’s gaze to evaluate her reaction. He couldn’t see her through the whirling clouds of sand. “One, two, THREE!” There was a distinct rustling from inside the storm, loud enough to be heard over the baying winds. Thick, looping vines sprawled across the earth. They were just high enough above the ground to serve as a serious tripping hazard for anything with legs. Soon, the stony soil was strewn with a veritable spiderweb of the plants, some beginning to prod out from under the cover of the storm. Isambard clenched his fists, trying to peer through the opaque wall of sand. Exeggcute were sturdy Pokemon, and certainly many times more rugged than they looked. If he didn’t end this soon, though… The Sandstorm would be sure to finish the job for Rex. Sorry again about the delays. I should be better after this.

Alright ^^ "Oh dang." Evelyn frowned as she saw glimpses of the plants covering the arena. A long range attack would sure be handy right now, but without visual, there'd be no way to get Rex to aim at the eggs and firing blind would just waste her time. "Think Evelyn, think. I need a good attack." Then it dawned on her. "Got it! Alright Rex, give 'em a good earthquake!" It was impossible for Evelyn to see if Rex had even heard her over the loud sandstorm, but a few moments later it was clear he had. A loud thud was heard as Rex landed after jumping into the air, then rumbling as the arena began to shake violently. "Whoa! Good one Rex!" Evelyn stumbled slightly, nearly falling on her butt before bracing herself properly, hoping Rex had remembered not to shake himself silly as well. I've caught a cold it seems but hopefully it wont get so bad that I can't get on, just warning ya though.

“Ugh,” Isambard felt the ground buckle beneath his feet, and fell forwards. He caught himself on one knee and one sturdy hand. His eyes down for a moment, he managed to hear a horrible noise, at least from his perspective. A loud cracking noise, like when one bashed an egg on the edge of a counter. “Crap… Crap,” He pushed himself to his feet, feeling a trembling that wasn’t entirely from the impact. His Pokemon were in poor shape. He could still pick up their reverberating calls easily enough, but it was clear they weren’t in the best of health at the moment. “Okay, guys. We still have something to work with. We might not see them, but they can’t see us either! Nature Power, and take it from there!” The slightly disoriented sounding peals unified with one accord, responding to his orders. He caught glimpses of green flashes from within the maelstrom, the lights blurring and illuminating the sand for scant moments before fading away once more. “Here we go!” Isambard couldn’t help himself. He was enraptured in the thrill of this in a way he’d very rarely been before. Maybe in that battle with that Eevee, years ago… He could certainly tell why people would make this their occupation. In the same locations as the lights had been before, he spied golden glitterings. The glows split down into smaller parts, sharply edged and visibly even through the dusty air. Each of the eggs had formed dozens of tiny stars, crafted from the same telekinetic might they had been using since the match began. At exactly the same moment, all of the Pokemon released their fusillades. Over a hundred tiny blades exploded from within the sandstorm, spiraling outwards and moving so quickly that the human eye had little hope of following them. They circled once, and then darted inwards, massing over the center of the squall. Uniting in a pillar of golden light, looking like a swarm of glowing wasps, the Swift attack plunged directly towards Rex. OOC: Well, I think I’m pretty much on my last legs, but I’m gonna get one good shot in before I go.

"Oh wow." Evelyn watched in wonder, the sight of the Swift attack building admitedly beautiful. "Brace for impact Rex, we are gonna take this one full on." Rex's lit up figure nodded and quickly took up a defensive stance, raising his little arms just as the thousands of stars hit. The blast of the impact quickly began pushing Rex back slowly, his lil feet creating deep furrows in the ground. "Once it's over, hit 'em with a Hyper Beam!" Grunting, Rex opened his mouth, beginning to build up a bright orange ball. It continued to grow throughout the onslaught of mini stars smacking into his arms and lower body, some bouncing off and rolling across the ground. "Alright! Let it loose!" Rex roared best his lil self can, releasing the beam of instense energy at the eggs infront of him, blasting through the tail end of the swift attack. Mmm, I hope thats ok, having him take the attack like that then attack. Wasn't sure if it counted as like two things in one turn or not.

OOC: Ayup. I'm just trying to figure out a classy way to write losing, since there's no way the eggs'll eat a Hyper Beam and keep on a'tickin'. Hopefully, we'll be able to punch through to the next round of battles before November, and you'll have a fresh battle then.

“Hyper Beam? WHA-?” Isambard’s words caught on the rapidly forming lump in his throat. Hyper Beam is a move only Evolved Pokemon can learn! I coulda swore basic Pokemon couldn’t use it. Unless they can… In which case, the world of training really is larger than I thought. Exceptions to everything, and I’m learning this one the hard way…
[glow=red,2,300] WHOOOOM! [/glow] The earth of the arena floor was plowed forwards by the massive beam of power, leaving a glassy furrow in its wake. Even through the sandstorm, its glow was clearly visible, almost blinding even. The sand in the air caught the light, like stormclouds blazing with each strike of lightning. Isambard could feel the heat on his skin, despite his distance from the battle.
“That’s it…” Isambard raised a Pokeball as the Larvitar let the Sandstorm fade. The grit drifted to the earth, revealing six eggs charred black. Three were unconscious, one was dazed with a large portion of its shell sheered off by the force of the attack, and two were aimlessly circling about, apparently in a mild state of shock. After a moment, all six were merely balls of light again.
“I cede.”
He strode across the battlefield, his boots crunching in the hot soil. A few of the remaining battlers had turned to face their fight, evidently with their attention snared by the massive bolt of power that had left their arena looking like a true war zone.
He extended his huge, calloused hand as if to shake hands.
“Evelyn, was it? That was really impressive. Steamrolled me like I was a rank novice.”
“I’ll be rooting for you. You thrashed me so soundly, I really don’t have much choice but to become a fan,” Isambard winked humbly, and turned away. He followed the lead of the man that had started the match, and made his way towards the stands.
At least it wasn’t a total blowout this time…
