Standing at the center of Area 1 was a slender young lass, probably younger than either of the trainers. She had picked up the brass bell from where it had rested.
“So, the rules are no switching, no intentionally delaying the fight by failing to give commands, and no interfering with any other fights. That's all pretty cut and dry, so I think I don't need to worry about either of you getting yourselves disqualified, right?” She stepped back slightly, and drew a small mallet from her pocket.
“When the bell sounds, the match begins.”
DING!

Zhane stood like a stoic statue in the mid-summer air while Gethen, his Houndour, stood in a loose battle stance with a growl building at the back on his throat. Though their opponent wasn't ready for battle Gethen seemed to be yearning to be back in the fray of battle. A half smile formed on Zhanes face as Gethen's excitement began to become infectious.
"Alright Gethen, this is the first step in proving that we're stronger than they all think. Start things off with Double Team."
Gethen wasted no time and split into six identical Houndour that began advancing slowly on the other side of the field, waiting for the opponents to appear. Zhane smirked, as did Gethen, as their dreams began to come to life. The battle would begin shortly and once it did, it was sure to be an intense one.

Finch strode purposefully toward her place opposite the circle from Zhane. Eevee scampered along beside her, hesitating at the edge of the ring where her trainer came to a stop. She looked up at the girl with large, brown eyes, and in them, the young trainer could see something else beyond the tiny pokemon's usual candor and playfulness. A hint of nervousness. Finch knelt down to ruffle the fur on the little pokemon's head. "It'll be fine, Eve," she said with a smile. "We can do this. Give it your best shot." Eve nuzzled her hand and trotted out into the circle, apparently bolstered by the brief pep talk. She eyed the advancing Houndour with her long ears back, affecting a defensive stance. "Give it a Double Team of your own, Eve," Finch directed, and Eve complied, six little brown pokemon fanning out into a semi-circle where one was standing a moment before. The trainer nodded. "Good. Stay on your guard and be ready to move when I say!" Bluhhh. Dissatisfaction. Oh well, it works.

Zhane smirked at the six Eevee facing down his six Gethen. Something told Zhane that this trainer would be a bit of a different to battle but thrilling none the less. The opposing Eevee was well bred and well taken care of, seeming to hint at hidden strength, but Zhane and Gethen weren't worried about the pokemon. If anything the trainer standing against Zhane was more perplexing and frightening. There seemed to be a confidence in her stance that slightly unnerved Zhane.
"You're Eevee looks fantastic. This should be a fun battle, but I'm in it to win it. I'm Zhane by the way." Zhane called out across the field and then began to speak in a lower tone.
"Gethen, use Nasty Plot and then Overheat. We're going to be as agro as possible this match."
Gethen's eyes quickly flashed black and then regressed to their natural gray. Small licks of flame began to dance at the corners of his mouth which boiled over into dripping streams of magma. With a roar, Gethen opened his maw and launched a thick stream of flames at the gathered Eevees. Though there were six identical flame attacks only one was real but the width of the attack it would be very difficult to tell which one the actual attack had come from.
"Keep your eyes peels Gethen, I think we're in for a fun one."

"Dodge it, Eve!"
The six little pokemon split in every direction to avoid the wall of fire Gethen had thrown at them. For a moment, the arena was illuminated with the bright-orange glow of the attack; as it hit the ground, the light dissipated. Three of the Eevees, products of the Double Team, twinkled out of existence. The remaining three regrouped in the center of the field, wary eyes on the pack of Doberman pokemon before them.
Gethen's attack had been a powerful one. The ground was scorched under one of the Eevees, a broad black mark about a yard and a half long. It was angled slightly, pointing off somewhere to Finch's right. She followed it with her eyes. For that kind of angle, the attack probably came from one of the two Houndours left of center as she faced them, and possibly the leftmost.
That certainly narrowed it down.
The next problem was, what to counter with? A physical, close-combat attack would be a sure giveaway. Against Zhane's Houndour, which overpowered Eve in terms of size and strength, she would have to rely on cunning strategy for the edge. So, if she couldn't attack up close, she would have to attack from a distance. Which meant...
"Eve!" Finch exclaimed. The brown pokemon's ears pricked up, listening for instruction. "Close in and use Mud Slap! And go left!"
At once, the Eevees sprung forward, closing about half the distance between them and the group of Gethens. They converged in a cluster, all three spinning to face away from the opponent, and kicked up mud at the faces of the leftmost Houndours.
And then, almost as quickly, they raced off again, weaving in and out of one another before coming to a halt back where they had been standing.
Smiling slightly, the trainer looked up. "I'm Finch," she called to her opponent, returning the introduction. She studied him, waiting for his next move.

DL, hate to do this to ya, buddy, but we're at the voluntary time limit already. So, y'know, you've got under a week to post in here before a forfeit.

OOC- I just had to get a day off to get in here and post properly. Sorry about delays but Work sucks right now and WoW is eating up time too...
BIC- Gethen howled in pain and anger as a large amount of mud was thrown into his eyes. In the sheer agony of the grit in his delicate optics Gethen charged through all his copies, causing the lot to vanish in brief showers of sparks. Zhane cursed under his breath. Most trainers would only use their gut reactions to battle a strategy like the one Zhane had set into play, but Finch was different. She studied the lay of the scorch marks and figured out where Gethen was standing with very little effort. She wasn’t the only one that could play at that game.
“Gethen, smell out that Eevee and once you’ve got a direction hit it with a Heat Wave.” Gethen called out, watching the small group of Eevee on the other side of the field. “Don’t hold back!”
Gethen didn’t waste a moment before following his master’s command. The hound had almost finished wiping the majority of the grit from his eyes when he began sniffing the air carefully despite the aggravating sensation still in his eyes. After a very short second Gethen perked up and opened his muzzle. Smoke curled around Gethens mouth and nose in long tendrils as the dark pokemon took a massive breath. Seconds later Gethen exhaled and a crimson tinted cloud of super heated air shot from his jaws and raced at Eve.
“Alright Gethen, their probably going to try to dodge the blast, so head left and watch where she moves to.” Zhane said softly to his pokemon who instantly obeyed, going into a sprint around his own attack.

The Heat Wave shimmered like a mirage as it blasted toward Eevee. Finch hesitated. Eve could probably dodge it, but it would leave her wide open to an attack by the circling Houndour as she tried to regroup. Nevermind that her presence in the battle so far was passive. If Zhane could command control of the fight, there was little question that he would be its victor. She’d have to do something to throw him off his guard.
“Eve, use your Quick Attack!”
Gethen’s attack ripped through the Eevee furthest from him, an image from her earlier Double-Team attack. It fizzled out of sight as the remaining two vulpine pokemon shot toward their enemy with a speed belied by their small size.
The attack aimed at the Houndour’s legs, meant to set him off balance more than anything else. They struck and kept moving.
Finch relaxed visibly, relieved that they’d made it through the powerful attack with so little trouble. But Gethen, disturbed or not, would still be moving and on the offensive.
“Get ready with a Sand Attack!” she instructed, hoping her maneuver had helped to shift the battle a little more in her favor.

Gethen was caught slightly off guard with the head on Quick Attack but kept his stride. He quickly planted a front paw and slid into an attack position facing the Eevee behind him. A low growl of frustration formed in his throat as he watched the body movement of his opponent. Zhane smirked slightly, for using a normal type Pokémon with a verity of abilities Finch was using very little of it. This told Zhane one thing; either Finch wasn’t very skilled in battling anything but wild Pokémon or was holding back. Zhane didn’t really like the possibility that the latter was true for that meant that the battle was going to be very long. “Alright Gethen, hit it with a Faint Attack.” Zhane ordered with a flat, annoyed tone to his voice. Gethen seemed to smile as the Sand Attack began to fly at him but passed though as he faded into darkness. For a few moments there was no movement. The field would have been peaceful if the held breath of the crowd hadn’t created a painful silence waiting for Gethen to attack. The fans didn’t have to wait long for Gethen reformed behind Eve and struck out in his shadowy form with a mighty attack at her legs. “Don’t go relaxing on me Finch!” Zhane yelled across the battle field. “If you relax then this won’t be near as interesting as it could be!” Why did I choose a pokemon with such a disappointing attack pool? I can't get myself excited about him anymore, hence the short posts...
Lesson learned I guess. lol.

OOC: DL, it's all about usage. Just read some Dace, for example. A move pool of less than six moves, but Minnow's pretty fresh.
I'd look into the anime/attack descriptions, and start coming up with newer ways to use moves. It's a different challenge, but it can be fun.

That's not what I'm really getting at. I could come up with a hundred different ways to go about doing the attacks, but I just find the whole fire thing that I get myself into in PRP to be getting stale. I just seem to have gotten myself into a funk.
If the point of your post was to tell me to improve then point taken because I know that I'm still really PRP rusty, but I must say I'm not all that sloppy either.I

Just FYI, I haven't forgotten about this yet, so pretty please don't disqualify me? I'll post as soon as I'm done with my character ratings.

The two Eevees began their Sand Attacks a split second too late. Gethen appeared behind the tiny pokemon, his attack landing squarely on the nearest. Eve's last clone blinked out of sight as it connected. Finch's fists clenched. "You're close, Eve! Headbutt it with everything you've got!" the trainer yelled, a new intensity in her voice. Enough messing around -- it was time to show Zhane and Gethen what they could do. Mehhhhhhh.

"Gethen, fight dirty!" Zhane called to his pokemon who seemed to know exactly what to do.
Gethen pulled his head to the right and allowed Eve to smash its head into his shoulder. A moment of pain flashed across his eyes but was quickly replaced by a knowing determination. As quickly as Gethen could he snapped at Eve's neck with powerful jaws covered in sparks.
Zhane tenses slightly as Gethen took control of the battle. Zhane rarely allowed Gethen to fight as he wished but in this case it seemed needed. Zhane's own battle style didn't seemed to be working so he allowed Gethen to show Finch and Eve how his brother used to battle. Frankly, Zhane feared when Gethen was allowed to fight dirty, but now wasn't the time to show weakness. Both pokemon were tired and if things went on much longer everyone involved would be in bad shape anways.
OOC- Eah....Forgot about this topic, so I'm rusty with Zhane. Oh well, at least I posted.

Finch gasped in horror as Gethen landed a vicious Thunder Fang attack. The tiny Pokemon jerked, squealing in pain. Her Eevee wouldn't last much longer if she couldn't get away; with its jaws locked around Eve's neck, the Houndour could end the battle any second. "Eve!" the young trainer shouted, her fear and desperation poorly disguised. "You have to use Return, now!" She bit her lip as Eve gathered her remaining strength for the counter-attack. Hopefully it would be enough. Basically, Eve was Finch's first and favorite Pokemon, and since they know each other so well, a Return attack would probably be pretty powerful. But, I don't have a lot to work with right now so that might seem desperate. Depending on how this attack goes, you're probably going to win next round.

“Gethen!! Move now!!” Zhane called out, but sadly it was far too late.
Eve ducked under Gethens chin and slammed full into his chest, forcing all the air from his lungs. Zhane was at a loss for words. He’d never seen a Return that powerful before, frankly he was more impressed than he would ever admit. Gethen fell down on its stomach and panted for breath in shallow gasps. Zhane began to panic, a tight knot formed deep in his chest and his pulse began to thunder in his ears. There was only one more chance to take Eve out, but what would he do. Gethen was nearly out of it and Zhane was out of ideas. He could allow Gethen to call the shots for the final move but he was worried that Gethen wouldn’t be able to choose quickly enough to get an attack in before he passed out.
“Gethen, use Inferno!” Zhane shouted and shocked himself in the process.
Zhane knew that Inferno only had a 50 percent chance to hit in peek form, but in the shape Gethen was in it would be less than that. The spur of the moment decision seemed to be the last option left to Zhane and he was prepared to let the cards fall where they may.

Finch couldn't decide what surprised her more: That Eve's Return attack had hit as hard as it did, or that Gethen was still able to perform a counterattack after taking it full-force. The Doberman-like Pokemon struggled to its feet, obviously pushing its physical limits. Finch's nails dug into her palms. Her Eevee looked ready to fall over at any minute. Any attack that landed would be the end of the fight for her. And judging from Gethen's state, the same held true for her opponent. She barely heard Zhane issue his next -- and probably final -- attack. "Eve, one more Headbutt!" She had a small window of opportunity. Closing the distance between the two pokemon would improve the chances of the enemy's attack hitting. But if she could squeeze one more attack in before Gethen's Inferno got rolling, she and Eve might be able to steal a victory. It's pretty much even, imo. Want to just get together and flip a coin to see who wins, or what? Doesn't matter much to me. It's been fun either way =)
