Phoenix ran down the metal hallways, his shoes ringing on the steel floor. He could hear the soldiers screaming behind him, one of them let of a shot, and Phoenix hit the deck. He quickly picked himself up, and continued running down the hall. "Hey! Hold still you bastard!" One of the soldiers yelled, laughing with his buddies as they chased him through the halls of the R&D Department, in which Phoenix had been working for the past two years. One of the soldiers let off another shot, and it dug deeply into Phoenix' calf. "AAAAAH!" He clapped his hand over the wound, hitting the ground hard. He could feel the bone, fractured but still whole. The soldiers were getting closer. "FUCK!" He screamed pointlessly, he climbed back onto his feet and howled. His leg was incredably painful, but he knew he had to walk on it if he wanted to survive this. He ran/limped around a corner, and found himself in a hallway full of doors.
"The Materials and Technical R&D Department..." He muttered, he could hear the soldiers boots ringing on the steel floors just around the corner behind him. He ran forwards, holding back grunts of pain, and chose one of the doors at random. He closed it quickly and silently behind him, and listened as the soldiers stopped at the entrance of the hallway outside. "Where are you Phoenix?" A soldier asked coyly. One of the others sniggered. "Come on out Phoenix, the doctors want to see you." The soldier taunted, though what the taunt was suppost to mean Phoenix didn't know. "Come on out you fucking inhuman bastard, the doctors want to make a nice big cut down your body." One of the other soldiers laughed, and started talking more quickly. "Yeah! They want to spill your guts all over the floor, and study them, and you to. They'll probably skin you alive you poor bastard! Ah-hahahahahaha!" Phoenix heard a hard 'SMACK' and a curse. "What the hell was that for?" The fast talking soldier asked indignantly. "Because your being to loud. I can't hear him squirm in fear if your voice is echoing all over the place."
Phoenix distinctly heard muttered curses and foul oaths as the soldiers passed by the door, walking down the hallway. He heard them open a few doors, but not all of them. He assumed they were just getting lazy, they HAD been chasing him for quite a while, he would know. He let out a long breath, and finally started to take stock of his surroundings. He was in the Robotics and Weaponry testing facility. It wasn't a very large room, and it was suspiciously barren. He'd heard RWR&D had been extremely busy lately, all in a mad rush over some new pet project. He didn't know what it was designated, he wasn't privy to that kind of information. Something, however, caught his attention. A circular door in the floor, in fact, there were several of them. Each of them had a control panel on the side. He limped over to one of them.
Looking at the display panel, he saw their were only two displayed options. "Open." And "Lock." He looked at the other ones as well. They had a different set of options displayed. "Unlock." He shrugged, thinking one of the other scientists must have forgot to lock that one cell before they all left for the day. He moved back to the unlocked one, and pressed the 'Open' option. The door opened, and a tube telescoped out of the floor. About nine feet high, it housed an 8 foot, black and red robot with extremely angular features. The head was triangular, with a v-like slit for the camera 'lense'. Phoenix would've guessed that it allowed a great deal wider range of vision than human eye's. One of the arms had a shield/machine gut attached to it. Uniquely shaped, a metal pin was inserted into the arm it was atatched to, likely serving as a datalink. The other arm, the right, had a blade on it. The blade was currently pointing backwards, past the elbow, but it was connected to a device which would obviously rotate it to the forward position in a split second.
The back held two rotating nozels with turbines, obviously capable of generating an immense amount of power. Two downward facing triangles radited traces of thermal energy, a heat sink of some kind. Though further examination showed that the triangles had extending sections, and could rotate and extend into a flight position. Phoenix was entranced with the device, he searched for its designation, wishing to put a name to such a wonderous piece of technology. RATCS, Robotic Armed Tactical Combat System, Designation: Black Kestrel. "Ah, a bird of prey eh?" Phoenix said thoughtfully. "It seems like you and I are brothers then." He joked. The door banged open. "There you are!" One of the soldiers yelled gleefully. "Get him!" The lead man yelled. The rushed forwards and pinned Phoenix against the glass. "This is for running." The leader said. He wound up and punched Phoenix in the stomach. He coughed up blood, and the two other soldiers let him go as he sank down to the floor. "And this is because I feel like it!" The leader said, kicking him square in the head. The glass behind him broke, and Phoenix stumbled back against the Kestrel.
As if from the outside, Phoenix saw the three soldiers take his body. They looked a little concerned. "Hey! He isn't breathing!" One of them said. "Oh shit, I think you went to far." The other man said. "Shut up! Give him CPR!" The leader yelled, panicked. Then Phoenix noticed that everything was brighter, more vivid, and in perfect focus. It was actually somewhat disconcerting, whatever he looked at was immidiately clear to him. Usually he'd have to wait a tic, it was somewhat odd. "I don't want to give him CPR! You do it asshole!" Phoenix flexed his hand, brough it up into his vision. It was black with some red overtones, and it flexed smoothly and powerfully under his comment. "Its no use, he's definately dead." Phoenix grinned inside, understanding what had happened to him. All the information of his new body flooded into his mind and he called up various specifications. He turned his external speakers up to maximum. "No." The three soldiers jumped and looked at the Kestrel. "I'm not." The v-slite 'eye' flashed red as Phoenix powered up the machine. Targeting glyphs ran across his vision as be brought up the machine gun on his left arm. He pulled the trigger and played it in a wide arc, filling the men with depleted urainium rounds. The alarms went off, the whole building started flashing red.
<Just one more thing to do before I leave...> Phoenix thought. <Computer Data-link Access. Command authority 3452. Password Fredrunks342. Data-quiry. Cause of personal apprehension -R. Phoenix- Respond.> He sent to the main processor. It took a moment for its finding to come back. <Denied, unauthorized access.> It said. <Overried, command delta 325 alpha 0.> He responded. <Granted. Subject to be apprehended due to being a none human organism. To be studied for as long as possible, following immidiate desection. Subject contains organs which produce nano technology.> Phoenix was shocked, nano organisms in his blood? How could he not know about such a thing... But it didn't matter for the moment. He turned his attention on how to get the hell out of the building. He checked his body, but his scanners indicated brain death, he couldn't go back. "Just another lovely fucking day."
