Today starts the first part of The Short Stories of Summer!!
So, here are a few bits of info before we get into the contest –
There will be rotating Judges for this contest (as some of the Judges would also like to participate.) May Judges are SV, DL, and I. Next month, they will step down and two new Judges will take their places. The same shall occur for month following that as well. After all three parts to the contest are finished; two of the six rotating Judges will be chosen to help select the grand-prize winner.
Prizes are:
May Winner – 25 EP
June Winner – 25 EP
July Winner – 25 EP
and
Grand-Prize Winner – 50 additional EP
That means one lucky person will walk away with a total of 75 EP. So make sure you do your best.
Now to the rules!
You have from now till May 26th to write a short story based on the criteria below. At midnight of the 26th/morning of the 27th we will stop accepting submissions. It is a bit lax here because you have till I wake up honestly. Anything posted after the deadline and before I wake up will be accepted, but submissions after that will be tossed. I will inform everyone when we officially stop accepting submissions.
Now for the criteria!
Each story must meet the ten criteria, if you choose not to you can still submit but the chances of getting a better score than someone who did meet all ten begins to slim as you leave out more and more.
Criteria-
1. Must be between 1856 and 2461 words.
2. Must have no more than six characters, but no fewer than two.
3. Must make reference to a published work or literary figure.
4. At some point, it must reference the time.
5. Something must break.
6. You must have a computer in your story, but you may not use the word computer.
7. At some point you must mention the weather.
8. One of your characters must have a unique ability.
9. Must have a knock-knock joke.
10. Must use the word fire somewhere in your story.
To submit a story, just post here with the following - the story itself, the word count, and a short explanation for how you met each criterion. It should look something like this.
The only thing that should go in the topic is finished short story submissions. There will be a second topic for discussion.
Now, have at!
