The river was red, oh so very red. A burning village in the distance, the source of the rivers red sorrow. The clouds of death fly overhead, the carrion birds, crows and ravens and vultures awaiting their feast. The feast of flesh and blood and brains and bone. A dark figure stood in the center square, a man's head in one hand, a hand sythe in the other. The walls of the square were peppered with blood, bodies lye everywhere. Ninja Stars and Kunai knives dotted people and walls, and a great ninja star had embedded itself in a man's body, and into the wall behind the body. Chinumi looked around her a smiled her, frowning. She hadn't even had to use any jutsu to kill these people, it was simply a slaughter, and as much as she liked to kill, she liked challenges more. She shook her head, and threw the dead man's head away. "I need a challenge." She muttered. "Something more exiting, something more dangerous." She grinned suddenly. "I'll go looking for Twilights Gate!" She looked at the burning buildings around her. "Well, I can't start here, that's for certain. I might as well go collect my pay before I go searching for the gate."
She jumped onto a building, and onto the next, making her way out of the town and into the tree's around it. Making her way quickly north, to Boxter Town, the home of her current employer. She wandered across the buildings of Siege street, finding her employers, and slipping into it silently. She could hear him, down-stairs, watching TV. With a few quickly executed acrobatics, she was downstairs, and flying, light footed, along the long hall, and into the living room. She pulled a kunai silently from her pouch, then darted forwards and fixed the blades across the man's throat. He gave a start, then held very still. She could smell the fear on him. "Hello Mister Holy, a rather improper name for one such as you isn't it? The village his been destroyed, everyone in it is dead. Pay up." Mr. Holy nodded jerkily, slowly getting out of his chair, and making his way across the room. He pulled a picture off the wall, revealing a vault. 'How cliche' Chinumi thought. He dialed the numbers into the lock, and the vault opened. He pulled a brief case out, and hurried across the room to Chinumi, handing her to brief case. She checked the contents, then, grinning happily, said "Well everything seems to be in order here!" She turned to leave, then stopped. "Oh, I forgot. One more thing." She turned back towards Mr. Holy. "I can't leave any loose ends, now can I?" The man turned completely white, as the kunai sped across the room and embedded itself in his for-head. Chinumi turned and left, as silent as the wind.
She pulled on a trench coat, to hide her various weapons and strange attire, and headed into downtown Boxter. Not much of a downtown, more like a larger than usual cluster of stores, but she knew what she was looking for. She walked into a book store, glancing briefly at the sign, which read "Arcane Artifacts". Mostly for tourists. She looked at the owner, who approached her. "What are you looking for? Anything I can help you with ma'am?" She smiled at his sweetly, "Yes" She said, sounding vaguely lost and confused. "I'm looking for something called the Twilight Gate. I think I need the Twilight compass to find it. You wouldn't be able to tell me where that is would you?" She asked, pleasantly. The owned faced darkened, and he motioned for her to follow him into the back. "Look, I know what you want, and I know where it is. But I really have to advise against seeking the gate, there are worse things in the world than death, and that gate is one of them." He said baldly.
Chinumi passed over 3000 dollars, which she'd pre-prepared in an envelope. The man checked the contents, hesitated for a moment, then said. "You want to find Mark Faint, he has the Twilight Compass in his personal collection of artifacts, along with quite a few nastier things. But if your heading his way, I'd recommend taking a rather large army with you. That bastard has all kinds of nasty things waiting for trespassers." Chinumi nodded her thanks, and walked out of the store. Looking to the horizon. The man was right, it's possible she'd need backup. She'd better arrange something, just in case.
An artical appeared in the newspaper the next day.
Chinumi Tsuroku, famous and celebrated assassin seems to be settling down. Today she opened a merc branch called Pendant Arms. It seems she passing into the more respectable merc business. Though the public mood seems to be uncertain as to how they should take this. Chinumi, no longer working on her own, but with others like her could spell very bad news indeed for the community. She put out an add for worthy fighters, expressing a willingness to pay an excellent salary, though when asked, she said she point blank refuses to cover health care, especially in her line of business. Pendant Arms is running from a base in Boxter Town, though said to be moving soon to places undisclosed. "I'm starting here in Boxter town to make the place easier to find." Said Chinumi, "Where I'm moving next is altogether harder to locate."
Pendant Arms seems to've already taken a case, though from whom hasn't been confirmed. Nor any of the details of the case. Though, judging the how happily Chinumi's been acting lately, it must be something very dangerous indeed. The mayor of Boxter town is already assembling militia, and reenforcing the towns defence's against whatever Chinumi may bring.
Chinumi read the artical happily from within her headquarters, and sat down to wait for whomever may come, and be interested in her little business, and going on her little quest. She sat down in one of the comfier chairs she'd had brought in, and threw her coat away randomly. Now that she'd been officially licensed as a merc, she didn't need to hide her weapons from the public anymore. She was glad, she hated for people to think she had a hunch back, but she could never go without her giant ninja star. She got up impulsively, and set up a trap just inside the door. Anyone who walked in now, would have to evade several ninja stars, and having their head sliced off by her sythe. "There." She said, "That should stop any amateurs from annoying me." She settled back into her chair, put her feel up, and decided to take a nap.
