Somewhere in the distant background, a series of announcements blared from a speaker, mounted on a high-up pole for safety. Miles had heard them all subconciously, but was about ready to beat down all of them. Ever since the racket had started up, all of the Pokemon he had been diligently searching for had taken to hiding. Even down near the ground, hidden quietly in the protection of the tall grass, all he could catch sign of was an occasional Weedle or Caterpie. Sure he had neither one, but he was hoping for a....more exciting....first catch. After all, this WAS the reputable Safari Zone.
"Char? Man, mander!" muttered a deep red, lizard-like Pokemon from it's outlook on Miles's shoulders, its flaming tale cautiously avoiding the dry grass.
"I know that its hard to keep your tail away from everything Kies," the trainer ackowledged with a sigh, "but I really want an interesting Pokemon for my money."
The Charmander snorted indignantly, reminding Miles that HE was an interesting Pokemon, but Miles's attention had shifted from his Pokemon to a hazy shapecoming through the grass. He was no Pokemon expert, but the shadow sure was BIG...
"Rhyyyy!" snarled the massive, rock-type Pokemon, scattering the more timid Pokemon away once more.
"Oh damnit!" Miles snapped, bounding up from his hiding place to stand angrily in front of the Rhyhorn.
Before remembering how Rhyhorn were prone to charge headlong at things without thinking.
The spike-riddled Pokemon glared ragefully at them for a second, and then charged the duo. Kies leaped bravely from Miles's shoulders and at the oncoming Rhyhorn, who instantly made to leap at the fire-lizard.
Training took over and Miles called out,
"Kies, that's a Stomp attack!"
The Charmander rolled deftly out of the way, and took a stance behind the annoyed Rhyhorn, that was trying to turn to face him. Thinking rapidly, Miles considered the type-disadvantage. He hesitated and then called out,
"Use Fire Spin, and follow it up with Dig!"
Kies nodded in a determined way, and rope-like tongues of flame shot from his mouth to coil around the big Pokemon. It growled shrewdly, hardly affected by the fire, but Kies was already in motion again. It began to dig rapidly, quickly engulfed by dirt. The bound Rhyhorn struggled, but though the fire didn't hurt it, the flames held it securely.
Soon enough, the Charmander erupted from the ground, slamming into the opposing Pokemon forcefully. While its ground and rock types cancelled each other out, the Rhyhorn shook its massive head in pain. Then it wheeled around angrily to face the small Charmander, and launched a sudden attack on it.
The lizard Pokemon tried his best to evade the onslaught of furious jabs from the rock-type's horn, but the last lunge connected, knocking Kies backwards. Knowing when he was outmatched, Miles intervined before Kies was recovered enough to get angry. He scooped up the Pokemon and took off, getting a decent headstart on the Rhyhorn.
"CHAR! Charrrrrr...." growled Kies, appearently insulted.
"You'll live, trust me." Miles muttered, scrambling up the nearest tree, and silencing the Charmander with an angry look as the Rhyhorn rushed by. "Not the brightest lightbulb in the box...." he snickered, leaped nimbly down.
"Looks like we'll hafta go further if we want to see any more Pokemon..." he told Kies, who was stubbornly refusing to look at him.
Miles was completely oblivious of the presence of anyone other than himself, though more than just trainers were exploiting the Safari Zone at the time.
