A group of youths was seated beneath an apple tree, the sun hot and the wind soothing. They did not have formal seats, but rather sat upon makeshift furniture, rocks and logs and such.
"What is the deal with the mainland, anyways?" One asked the circle, nobody in specific.
"Well, they've been wanting to utilize Alter power for many years." Another responded, in kind.
"So, they have to try and invade us?"
"Well, from what my dad told me, the way they use Alters can almost KILL the poor users. So they have to force them to work for their projects."
"That's sick!"
One child was not with the group. Perched in the apple tree, he watched them from above, silently. Though for them, the matter was fairly serious discussion, for him, it was life and death. He held up his right hand, watching rainbow colored sparks shoot from his fingertips.
"Sick indeed." He muttered, looking out over the plains to see if he could see any returning parents or anything else of note.

Far in the distance a figure began to form in the bright sunlight. Each step seemed to carry on the wind like a crack of thunder. The rising dust, ripples of heat, and glaring sunlight caused the shadow of the approaching visitor to seem like a dream. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The figure drew closer and began to gain more physical clarity. It was male, not doubt about it. He had long silver-dyed hair that was neatly tied back with a length of white cloth. He wore a uniform what was renouned throughout the region, a HOLY uniform. Instead of the standard purple color, the uniform was crimson. The man had glaring brown eyes and a look of stern disipline.
"Children! I am Arata Kamon, newly appointed head of the recruiting faction of HOLY. I'm seeking native Alters to join our cause. If you know of any it would be in your best intrest to tell me or you just might find yourselves at our labs. The choice is yours." Arata stated coldly as he brushed a strand of hair out of his face.

A child dropped out of the apple tree, landing on his feet. Though he was barely chest high to the man, he walked up to him with an air of pure defiance.
"Holy, 'ey? I haven't heard much of them since their headquarters got blown off the face of the earth. So, what are you all doing these days? Kowtowing to the mainland, or helping us put up some kind of defense?" The child stared into the man's face, totally unafraid. He could sense immense power, but he didn't let it show.
