Pride shuffled around the table, a clipboard in hand his white lab coat flowing behind him slightly from the movement; he was murmuring and scribbling furiously, glancing at the object in the middle of the table every so often. He sighed, dropping the clipboard on the table and turned to gaze at his problem.
It had been brought in three days ago, from one of his teams in the east, somewhere in Asia, Pride wasn’t quite sure. His team didn’t know what to make of it, and frankly nor did he at the present. The small glass pyramid stood in the middle of his table, amongst a lot of his instruments, inside in the dead centre a black ball of what Pride thought was energy floated, crackling ever so often.
Pride was confused, he had no idea what the thing was but it was a great find, another to his collection of all things supernatural, he had artefacts, weapons, all used by people who could manipulate the world with there own powers. He knew of some, one called Zebedee seemed to be the most prominent, him and his friends, all powerful and all who had saved the world countless times. But he had no idea how to contact them, so he was on his own.
“Let’s try giving it a little power,” Pride called through a small microphone attached to his lab coat, a positive response given from his boss on the other side, who was monitoring his progress. Pride began his work, attaching some electrical clamps to where he could on the pyramid, which was a pretty hard job. He nodded, to his only assistant who flipped the switch, the electrical current crackling down the wire and firing into the pyramid. “Keep it going, don’t turn it off.” Pride called over to his assistant as he turned away, watching the monitors for any change.
All of a sudden the monitors went haywire, the information jumping about, Pride spun towards his object the energy orb inside the pyramid was pulsing, and in seconds it exploded outwards, enveloping the room, and building in a black light before everything exploded, the last thing Pride remembered was a voice, almost like it was controlling the powerful ball, before everything went black.
Hours later…
Pride rolled over amongst the debris of his now destroyed lab, and home. His vision was blurred, and his body felt, weird, the only way he could put it. Like something had been added to him. He brought his free hand, to rub his eyes, the other was caught under something probably the roof, how was he not dead. His vision now a little better, he took in his surroundings, the room had been totalled, only the far wall now stood, and the artefact he had been studying, had vanished.
“Great…” Pride muttered, now he wouldn’t be able to figure out what it was, or did. Except explode of course. He brought his attention now to the piece of roof that was on top of half of his body, he wouldn’t be able to shift it, but he tried anyway. To his amazement, it shifted off, and was thrown off of him, Pride just stared, before looking at his free right hand, it had shifted a really heavy piece of concrete off himself. What had that black energy done to him, it was the only thing he could think of that could have done this to him.
Pride stood slowly, his legs shaking a little, amongst the debris, his home, his life destroyed; he didn’t know what to do, what had happened to him…
“Help.” Pride muttered, would anyone come to his call?
