No one ever said it was a gorgeous place. Far from it. It was stagnant, murky, and insect-ridden. Besides, there were crocodiles everywhere. And the air lingering around the area was humid and kind of smelly too.
But hey, it was home. Tourists annoyed him anyway.
Homalyos Mercurius Gromadny (it's not like anyone ever called him that anyway, usually he went by "swamp thing" whether he liked it or not) emerged from the algae, letting it cling to his body instead of shaking it off. He liked the feel of the cool, damp algae on his skin, especially on such a hot day like this. He placed one soggy, green paw on solid ground, and then another, until he was completely out of the water. Homalyos was quite monster-like in appearance, with a head like a dragon, a body like a lion, and tremendous paws with claws that could eviscerate without effort even the strongest men, and he was almost always completely covered in algae and soil. In fact, the organisms were almost symbiotic in nature: Homalyos provided a place for the algae to grow, and the algae kept him cool, and when you live in the swamps of eastern Europe, you don't take that for granted.
Homalyos lifted his head and sniffed for food. The crocodiles didn't seem to be around lately. Pity, crocodiles were always delicious. No frogs either. Actually, now that he thought about it, the water level was significantly lower. He furrowed his eyebrows and decided to investigate. He sauntered over to the far edge of the wetland, and found the source of his problem. A team of construction workers and a rusty yellow excavator, digging holes in the muck and laying pipework near the water. The water level kept falling and falling until there wasn't any left in some places.
He growled. How would he get rid of them? He couldn't take them on alone. And he wasn't exactly the most popular guy in the world. "Maybe now we can find and kill that monster!" he heard one of them exclaim. They all laughed. Homalyos swore he would find a way to make them pay.
OOC; Sorry if I didn't leave much space for you guys to jump in, but feel free.
