here's the deal: I just got some "surgery" done to extract my wisdom teeth (surgery in quotations because all I got was local anesthesia and I was awake and in pain anyway the entire time, and no one considers tooth extraction surgery... I hate my mom and her love for cheap medical procedures in Colombia...) but anyway, it's the second day after getting them out and I still look like a chipmunk. they don't hurt that bad but the inside of my lower left jaw hurts(thats actually the side that isn't as swollen) I can barely chew or smile, and my body is punishing me for laughing... with a sharp bolt of pain to the jaw. so, anyone who's gotten wisdom teeth removed, tell me your story. tell me the time it took for a full recovery, the procedure, amount of pain afterwards, and any and all remedies you used. for now I'm using ice, advil, and they're giving me painkillers... in the form of a shot in the ass. so, afterwards, my jaw doesn't hurt that bad, but ohhhh man does my ass hurt.

Never had my wisdom teeth out, but when my mouf hurts, I drink lots of cold water to deaden the nerves. You can also use mouthwash for about twice the time on the bottle for a similar effect.
Not sure if that works for missing teeth, though...

I wanna say the swelling/pain doesn't go down for about a week, but i never observed my friends' cheeks that closely.

I still got mine (I have a huge mouth) but I knew a ton of people who had theirs ganked out. They were usually out for a week and the military docs give them either percoset or oxycodine.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're right. I have yet to get my wisdom teeth extracted (although I need to do it soon. Last time I was at the dentist, I was told that if I wait too long, the way they are positioned, they are going to cut off and/or mess with some nerves), but I'm pretty sure that swellings don't just go down overnight or immediately.
But anyway... I'm sorry about your jaw...

I had puffy cheeks for like 5 days I think. The drugs were rad.

The swelling lasted very nearly two weeks for me, but I had all four of mine removed at once. On top of that, my mouth had literally been stitched shut, and I couldn't open it until the stitches were removed. I delt with the pain by way of industrial pain killers, which didn't really help, willpower, which didn't make it go away, but helped. Killing things in video games, or reading a book, which distracted me. And eating a lot of ice cream. And I mean a LOT of ice cream. I couldn't properly open my mouth for a month afterwards, and after the operation the disk in my jaw cracks horribly. And does to this day, popping while I friggin eat and annoying the hell out of me.
So all I can really say is you have to endure it for as long as it lasts, and it's gonna suck every second along the way.

If your mouth still hurts, try Hurricaine. Comes in a topical gel/spray and is guaranteed to deaden your mouth. Kind of expensive, with the spray coming in at about $30 but you can't beat it for over the counter anesthetic.

@ Blood: yeah, you can still be that. After all, it's your wisdom teeth, not your actual wisdom.
