Dace finished her late lunch with a large bite, wiping the grease from her cheese sandwich off on her pant legs as she left her seat.
"Hey! Aren't you forgetting something?" Her mother, a gentle looking woman with dark hair past her shoulders, chided.
"Ummm... Thank you, mom!"
"That's sweet, but I was referring to your dishes," Her mother winked, and Dace sighed.
"Oh, okay," She scooped up her bowl and plate, and set them in the sink with a clatter. "That better?"
"M-hm..." The woman paused for a moment, smiling slightly. "I guess that since you ate all of your lunch and put the dishes away, I can give THIS to you," She reached into her back pocket.
"What is it? Money? Candy? Both?" Dace was almost instantly at her mother's side, hand outstretched.
"Better than that. It's a note from your tutor," With that news, Dace pounced on the sky blue envelope the moment her mother pulled it out. She fumbled with it, trying to open it as quickly as possible while not damaging whatever was inside of it.
"So, what's it say?" Dace's mother asked with a chuckle.
"It says-" The girl paused to unfold a small scrap of paper, apparently stationary with some kind of feather design inside an octagon. "Hey Dace. Saw how you did in the tour-" Dace looked to her mother, and held the letter up.
"Tournament."
"-Tournament. Not bad at all!" Dace paused again, beaming to her mother, who responded with a quiet smile. "I think that you're ready to begin training in ear-" She offered the paper up again.
"Earnest."
"Earnest, or if you aren't, well, you're very close to that point," Dace stopped, catching her breath, and then continued reading with the next paragraph.
"So, here's the deal, Dace. I've been really busy lately, and haven't had the time to deal with some issues I'd normally take care of. So, if you could head north to Cerulean Pen-
"Peninsula."
"Really? That's kinda a funny word. North to Cerulean Peninsula for me, and take care of a problem Pokémon that has been giving the people living there trouble, I'll begin training you for the Gym Challenge. Sin-"
"Sincerely."
"Sincerely, Mistral," Dace folded the note up, and looked to her mother. "So, can I?"
"Hmmm... I know that your father wants you to do everything that your tutor suggests, since he really trusts them. Still, it's a long way to Cerulean, and even farther to the peninsula past there..."
"How far is it?"
"Well, it's like ten miles from here to Saffron proper, and another fifteen from there to Cerulean. That's not even counting the travel time to get to the sea from there..."
"How long would that be?"
"I wouldn't know, since I don't hike out that way. But it's probably ten hours of walking..."
"I can handle it!"
"Dace, it's three thirty in the afternoon. Your bed time is ten."
"I'll set up a tent!"
"In the middle of the wilderness? All alone? At night? I don't think so." Upon the chiding, Dace began to look crestfallen.
"Which is why you're going to need to bring some friends along," Dace's mother smiled, tousling her hair. The youth perked up instantly, and began thinking.
"But everybody in my class who I like don't have any Pokemon yet."
"Hmmm... How about that girl you sat with after your match the other day?"
"Laksha? Oh, she's pretty cool."
"Then I'll call her family, and see about her coming along with you."
"Awesome!" Dace threw herself at her mother, giving her the closest thing to a bear-hug that she could manage. She then proceeded to mumble something.
"What?"
"I asked if Durant could come along too."
"Durant? Well, I don't know about taking a boy along with you..."
"Please?" Dace looked up, trying her best to summon up the standard puppy-dog eyes.
"Ohhh, okay. But he has to pack his own tent-" Dace's mother said, getting cut off by her daughter catching her in another rambunctious hug. -------- An hour later, Dace was standing at the northern rest stop of Saffron, tapping her foot on the dusty cobbles. She had switched to an outfit that she considered much more stylish, although her mother had stopped her when she had tried to take her father's big old bomber jacket. She wore fingerless leather gloves, a black and white striped t-shirt, and some black jean shorts, along with hiking boots that she had yet to break in.
After her father got home from work, taking an early leave to help her out, he had driven her up here to give her a good head start. He wanted to take her a little farther north, but she had turned the help down, saying that she had arranged for Laksha and Durant to meet her at the building here...
She sighed, and slumped against the brick wall. She hated waiting more than anything, and it had been almost five minutes since she had given her dad a hug goodbye. All that she could do was kill time, and wait for her friends to show...

Ravi Karttikeya stood on the tiled floor of Saffron City's train station, staring up at the Magnet Train as it smoothly came to rest on the tracks before him. With its sleek design and platinum coating, the Magnet Train had stood in many people's minds as a symbol of the spread of commerce and exchange of technology between the regions of Kanto and Johto when it had been set up eight years ago. Now, to Ravi, it simply meant the promise of home.
He could see Kubera felt the same way. His Nosepass stood by his side, coming up to Ravi's waist, arms attentively folded up, facing the west, where the train tracks led off into the distance. Of course Kubera wasn't actually looking homeward -- Ravi had never observed the Nosepass to open his eyes any more than he had heard him vocalize the least grunt -- but Ravi knew this was the Moai statue's way of expressing his desire to return to Blackthorn.
This was the end of their week in Kanto, Ravi and Sita and Laksha. Ravi was on a business trip; the ladies had taken it as an opportunity to shop in Saffron and Celadon. And it was in this last week that Laksha, his own dear bright Laksha, had discovered the tournament in Lavender Town and had proven her mettle against one of the best trainers in the country. Ravi wished he had been free to attend that tournament. It had been Laksha's first...
Now Sita and Laksha were seated on the bench behind Ravi and Kubera, amidst perhaps two dozen others who would be taking the train to Goldenrod. As Ravi turned to beckon them up, he saw Laksha pull out her cell phone. Ravi stepped toward her, leaving Kubera to remain stoically facing west.
"Hello, this is Laksha Kartti--" Laksha began. Then she beamed. "Ah, hello, Dace! How are you?"
Sita rose to join Ravi. "I'm glad she's found a friend in Kanto," she smiled. Before Ravi could respond, however, Laksha was by his side, holding out the cell phone.
"Dace's mother would like to talk to you. Mrs. Balao," she added for clarification, before he had raised the phone to his ear.
"Yes? Mrs. Balao? This is Ravi Karttikeya."
"Hi, Mr. Karttikeya. It's nice to meet you; I wish our daughters had introduced us at the tournament, but Laksha did so wonderfully I guess you three must have gone off at once to celebrate."
"She makes me very proud," said Ravi, thinking it best not to add that Laksha had come to the tournament alone. Better to allow Mrs. Balao a good head start. She seemed kind.
"Well, Dace and I would like to invite Laksha to stay an extra day or two here in Kanto if it's at all possible. Dace is going just up north to Cerulean to do some training and she'd love to have Laksha and her Phanpy along."
"Is that so? I don't imagine that'd be a problem. We're certainly happy that Laksha and Dace have gotten on so well. And you live...?"
"Here in Saffron, in the east suburbs. Dace is up in the northern end of town right now, just near to you, I imagine? She can pick Laksha up if you like."
"One moment--" Ravi looked at his daughter. "Laksha? You're interested, I take it?"
"Yes, truly!" It had been a while since Ravi had seen Laksha look so excited for something. He glanced at Sita, who nodded her approval.
"All right, Mrs. Balao, she's coming."
"Great! Thank you, Mr. Karttikeya."
"A pleasure speaking with you..."
"And you, too. Oops -- Dace wants the phone back. Would you mind putting Laksha back on?"
Ravi handed the phone to his daughter. In another couple of moments she had determined Dace's location, only a couple of blocks from the train station. With a promise to meet Dace there soon, she hung up, then turned back to her parents.
"I imagine I should warn you to be careful travelling on your own, but after that tournament I think you can take care of yourself a couple of days with a friend," said Ravi. "Call us tonight, though, please, just so we know how you are."
"Have fun in Cerulean," said Sita, kissing Laksha on the forehead. "Are you taking all your things?"
"No--" (Laksha had a rolling bag and a couple of shopping bags, and a satchel over her shoulder) "--I think the satchel will be enough. I'm sure Dace won't mind if I need to borrow any clothing until I go back home."
"All right, I'll take those things." Ravi accepted her other baggage as the passengers filed onto the Magnet Train. "Good luck, my dear."
She hugged him. "Thank you. Goodbye!" And with a wave to Ravi and Sita, his daughter left the station the way she had come in.
Sita said, "How exciting to see her taking such initiative."
Ravi turned back to the Magnet Train. As he and Sita boarded, he recalled Kubera with a gentle word. It didn't escape his notice that during his phone conversation, the Nosepass had pivoted to face due north.
* * *
As her parents sped back to Goldenrod station, Laksha strode over the cobblestones of Saffron, looking around for Dace. And there she was, leaning against the wall of the building where they had agreed to meet. It seemed the boy, Durant, who had beaten Dace, was not yet here; Dace had said she was inviting him as well.
Laksha flung out a hand in greeting. "Dace!"
OOC - In truth, a Karttikeya had been bouncing around my mind for some months as a possible Pokemon trainer, but that seed began as Ravi Karttikeya. Only on a whim, in joining the Beginner's Cup, did I change his gender to female. Here, then, is the Ravi That Could Have Been. I clearly went above and beyond the call to duty in introducing him, considering he and Sita will probably remain only in the background of Laksha's adventures, but I felt it necessary to give him this spotlight for some reason. Probably has something to do with the fact that we've surely not seen the last of Kubera...

Durant was sleeping as Taraek pushed the bedroom door open and climbed up onto his bed. He then started nudging Durant, trying to wake him.
"No Taraek," he said groggily" just five more minutes, then I'll get up..." Taraek rolled his eyes and then proceeded to flip him out of bed by using his vines. "Ow! Taraek, what's with the rude awakening?" He sat up and gave Taraek an injured look, laughed, then put on his familiar smile.
"Alright pal, I'm up now what is it?" Taraek turned and pulled the bedroom door open the rest of the way, and a faint ringing sound entered the room.
"Bulb" Taraek exclaimed.
Durant laughed and patted him on the head fondly. "Still don't like it do you? Alright, let's go see who it is and what they want."
Durant got up and left his room, the telephone lay right outside it, but due to it's ringer being broken was generally quiet.
"Hello, Larks residence"
"Hello, Durant? This is Mrs. Balao, Dace is going on a trip to the Cerulean Penninsula, and she would like to know if you would like to go with her, and her friend Laksha."
"Sure, Taraek and I would love to go!"
"Alright, may I speak with your parents then please?"
"Um..... My parents aren't here, but let me get my Aunt Julie" Without waiting for a reply, he set the phone down and shouted for his aunt. "Aunt Julie! Someone wants to talk to you!"
A moment later a short woman who wore a broad smile on her face came into the room and picked up the telephone. "Durant, stop being so loud!" she laughed, then brought the phone up to her mouth. "Hello, this is Julie Larks, who may I ask is speaking?
"Hello, this is Mrs. Balao, my daughter, Dace, was wondering if Durant could go with her and her friend Laksha up to the Cerulean Peninsula with them."
"That's fine, I'm sure he'd love to go!"
"Does he have his own tent? He'll need one if he's co-"
"No, no that's fine. It'll all be taken care of. Where would you like him to meet with you all?"
Durant was already in his room. He grabbed his backpack and started putting clothes and other things into his backpack
Taraek watched Durant pack his bag then, tapping him on the shoulder, said "Saur?"
Durant turned and smiled broady at Taraek. "Don't worry pal, you're coming too. We'll be seeing Dace again. You remember the girl with the burmy that you fought awhile ago, right?" Taraek nodded in response. "Durant, don't forget to bring your tent! I wrote down the address for you, it's a place in Saffron. It's right next to the phone." Durant picked up his backpack and stepped towards his bedroom door, his aunt was standing there. She bent down gave him a big hug, the smile on her face gone. "Come home when you're ready. Take your time. Don't do anything too risky."
"Yes aunt Julie." Taraek then tapped him on the shoulder with one vine, and handed him a picture with the other. Durant turned around and, without looking at it, took the picture and put it in the side pocket of his backpack. "Yeah, we might need that too, won't we?"
-----------------------
Durant and Taraek walked up to a brick building. Dace and Laksha were already there, apparently talking to each other.
He smiled broadly, shouted to them, and waved "Dace! Laksha!"

"Laksha!" She responded, seizing the hand and giving it a hearty shake. "Great to see you! How's everything been for you? I've been kinda bummed since I left Lavender, since it's boring at my house during the summer, but I finally got something to do, so I'm feeling better now."
"Anyways, Minnow's gonna stay in her ball. She can't walk with us and she's too heavy for me to carry, so..." Dace looked slightly disappointed, but shrugged and resumed her grin.
"You ever been to Cerulean before? I haven't been there in like a year. When I was younger, I went to school there, but then my parents moved me to a school closer to where we live." She paused, thinking she heard somebody approaching.
"Hey, Durant! Took you long enough!" Dace's smile only grew. "Maybe we'll see something cool on our walk, right? My mom said that Pokemon weren't very common between here and Cerulean, but I think she was pulling my leg," She turned and began walking, her small feet hitting the stones lightly. A stiff breeze blew against them, rifling through their hair and cooling them in the afternoon sunlight.
"I told Laksha about what we were doing, but I don't know about you, Durant. Anyways, my tutor said that he was busy, so he couldn't take care of a Pokémon that's causing trouble on the pen-in-sula in Cerulean," Dace paused, thinking.
"Or maybe it's more than one of them," Dace muttered, realization crossing her face. "There can be more than one Pokemon, and they just said Pokemon..."
"I don't know which I would want. If there's only one, it's probably really tough, but if there's more than one, we could each catch one, right? That would be really cool if they're something strong."

"Hmm... you've reminded me." Laksha drew out the first Pokeball on her belt and dropped it on the ground, where it burst to reveal Ganesh. He looked around for a moment, confused; clearly he had expected not to be released until they were back in Johto. Then, excited at the sight of his newfound friends, he bumped Dace, Durant and Taraek with his trunk enthusiastically, and nuzzled Laksha for good measure.
"Mom and Dad are going home, Ganesh, but we're staying an extra couple of days with Dace and Durant. We're going north to Cerulean to train. Dace has been asked to take care of a problem with a wild Pokemon -- or perhaps several," she added. "Will you walk with us, or would you rather ride?"
Ganesh stomped the ground and rolled in loops between and around the three trainers before coming to a halt next to Taraek. Laksha smiled. "All right, he's joining us."
She looked back at Dace. "No, I've actually never been to Cerulean. It's usually only on business trips like this that my family comes to Kanto, and then we mostly just stay in Saffron; that's where Kanto's sector of my father's company is stationed. I love the city, but I do look forward to seeing more of this region."
OOC - "The first Pokeball," yes; Laksha has two other low-level Pokemon, but she's got no need to release them unless we get into a battle. One of them isn't built for land travel and the other one would rather be exploring than following a path.

"My Aunt Julie took me up there a couple of times, and the last time I was there I was there with my parents. That was awhile ago though...."
Taraek looked up at Durant, then began watching Ganesh.
Durant bent down and picked him up, and looked down at Ganesh too, but continued talking to Dace and Laksha.
"There's some pokemon on the way there, but a lot of them are common." He paused, then smiled widely. "I'll bet that it's at least one tough pokemon, maybe even more! This will be great! Right, Taraek?"
Taraek merely responded with a grunt and shook his head slowly.

"Ah, hey Ganesh!" Dace gave a rough scratching to the back of its head before it launched itself into a flurry of motion. She giggled slightly, stepping to the side to make sure she didn't get in his way as he rocketed around the rough bricks that had once formed a road years ago.
"You'll really like Cerulean, I think. It used to be really noisy, but now it's really calm. And no, before you guys say it, it's not because I stopped going there. My parents told me that it was because they moved most of the factories and stuff out near the power plant, and made most of the old factories into buildings for the community," Dace adjusted the straps on her backpack, and pitched herself forwards.
"They've done a lot of really cool looking stuff. There's fountains on almost every street, and a lot of statues and stuff like that. I heard that the Waterflower family went and paid for some of the earlier stuff, and then everybody pitched in."
"By the way, I don't think you guys are hungry yet, but my mom packed me some food for us just in case. She said there wasn't any candy, but she makes really good sandwiches, and I think she put the leftover soup in a thermos-thingy for us to share later on."
Dace stopped walking for a moment, and looked ahead to the group's Pokemon.
"Hold on a second, guys. I'm gonna let Minnow out and carry her for a bit. I don't think its right that I'm making her lonely just because I'm too lazy to carry her." Dace produced a Pokeball from her pocket, and hit the button, pointing it skywards. There was a brilliant flash, and the insect appeared, falling into Dace's arms. Grunting as she caught it, she cradled the Burmy closely to her. "I never really hugged Minnow before when she had this stuff around her. Feels like a sandbag in a bunch of plastic bags."
Minnow squeaked quietly in offense.
"Oh hush. I let you out, didn't I? Enjoy the ride." Dace soothingly ran her fingers over the Pokemon's head, and then hugged it close. Minnow seemed slightly less indignant, though it still didn't relax completely. They were out in the wilderness, and every time before this that Dace and her had been out of the city, it was for training. Instinctively, now, she watched for threats and potential challenges.

OOC - Minnow's still in its Trash Cloak from the tournament battle, I think? The plastic bags description made it sound that way, but I want to be sure. Anyway here's a short little post to get Laksha moving.
Laksha set into motion beside Dace, and Ganesh trotted happily along with her. He seemed puzzled slightly by Minnow, whose scent must have suggested inanimate objects to him, but as usual Ganesh took it in his stride.
"So it was your tutor who informed you of this wild Pokemon problem?" Laksha asked Dace. "Who's your tutor?"

"Yeah, that is a pretty good question. Did he even say what the problem was that the pokemon was causing? Although it'd be pretty fun just hunting around and fixing the problems there."
Taraek stopped suddenly and started sniffing the air. He then tapped Durant on the shoulder. "What's up, pal?" Taraek responded with a grunt, and pointed upwards at the sky.
Durant looked up, and smiled widely. "Oh, okay. Thanks pal.
Grayish clouds were forming overhead.
"I guess it's going to rain soon, any guesses about if we'll find shelter before it starts raining?"
OCC: Ugh.... I don't like how I set this post up. It was too short at first, so I added some stuff and I don't like how it flowed..... Ugh.....
And now I guess I get to because Pohatu beat me to the post XD

"Yeah, it was my tutor..." Dace stopped talking for a moment, and looked down to the dusty bricks. "I don't know who he is. He always hide his head in one of those head wrap thingies that you see Arabian people wear on TV, and always has sunglasses on. He's really strong, and really nice, though. He said he's won a few high level tournaments, but wouldn't tell me which ones that they were."
"I think he's a friend of my parents, but I'm not sure who it would be..." Dace sighed and shrugged.
"And he didn't tell me what the problem was either, beyond Pokemon troubles... It could be almost anything I guess." Dace kicked at a loose chunk of brick, sending it clattering across the rugged earth. "My tutor really likes to be all mysterious and stuff. He must think it makes him cool, but really it's kind of annoying..." Minnow squeaked in agreement with her master.
"Rain isn't that bad, around here, usually. It might just be somebody using Rain Dance, even. I think we should just keep going, and tough it out. None of us are wimps." Dace said, putting a bit more distance into her steps and moving more quickly. "Though I don't know how our Pokemon would feel about it..."

"Well, Taraek likes it a lot, and it's not from a pokemon. He'd have ignored it, or tensed up it is was." He continued to stare up at the sky, and even smiled at it, as if his beaming expression could cut through the now dreary looking sky and make the world bright and happy looking again. "I'll bet you anything it'll be a really good rainstorm. Maybe even a thunderstorm." He looked down at Taraek, who still walked beside him. "What do you think Taraek?"
Taraek looked up at him and tilted his head, then looked back at the sky with a hopeful expression, giving no other response to what Durant had asked him.
Durant then began watching the sky once more. "Yeah, I hope so too."

"Ganesh and I prefer to be dry, but really it's all right as long as he doesn't become cold," Laksha said. Ganesh agreed by flapping his ears vigorously. "To tell the truth, I might have brought an umbrella..."
She pulled her satchel off her shoulder and opened it. Amid the personal effects and trainer's supplies, she found her collapsible orange umbrella.
"We can crowd under this, I think, and find a roof if the rain grows too heavy."
Laksha pressed on, "But tell me more about him! I'm fascinated. He seems unreal, like a character from a story."

"I hope it isn't a thunderstorm-" Dace started, and looked towards the oncoming clouds for a moment. "I really don't like those. Too noisy."
"Good that you've got that. Though I don't know if there's room for everybody here, if we count the Pokemon." Dace stepped a little closer to Laksha, just in case the predicted downpour hit suddenly.
"Anyways, my tutor is REALLY strong. I've never seen him use any Pokemon, but he showed me that he had badges from like forty gyms. I think he even beat the Elite Four here once." Dace smiled at the thought of the badges. A lot of them had been gorgeous, almost as if they were little gems, all polished and ready to display.
"He said that to be a strong trainer, you couldn't just have strong Pokemon. When a wild Onix attacked out nowhere, when we were trying to train in Dark Cave, he just stepped right up AND LET IT HIT HIM. And the ONIX hurt HIMSELF." Dace grinned. "I sound really crazy saying all of this stuff, but that's nothing." Her voice fell to a conspiratorial tone.
"I never told my parents this, but one day, after training, he sent me to go home, but I hid in some bushes. Do you know what he did? He just FLEW. No Pokemon, no airplane, NOTHING! He just flew away, like Superman or something!"
"Okay, I guess that now I sound crazy."

Durant turned to look at Dace. "Probably. The only other thing I can think of is that it could be a ghost." His smile once more stretched ear to ear with excitement. "That'd be cool, receiving help from some long dead trainer."
Rain started falling, slowly, but steadily picking up. Durant however refused to get under Laksha's umbrella, and continued walking with Taraek in the rain.
Taraek was smiling in a manner that mimicked that of his trainer, both of them were thoroughly enjoying the rain.

"No...?" Laksha gave Durant a curious look from under her orange umbrella, but let it go; he seemed to like the rain, and it meant there'd be enough room for Ganesh to stay dry without having to withdraw him into his Pokeball. Laksha got the sense that Durant boyishly relished the feeling of resilience, so there seemed no reason to protest. Instead she reached the umbrella over to keep the water off Dace and Minnow, and so the three trainers and three Pokemon carried on into the gentle rain.
"I don't think ghosts are material, though, are they? So an Onix could scarcely hurt itself by hitting one." Laksha spoke jokingly, hoping to hide her astonishment at Dace's description of her tutor. She could only assume Dace, who after all got very excited about things, was exaggerating... otherwise, Laksha could hardly believe the tutor was a normal human being.

"I really don't know... Maybe we'll get to meet him after we save Cerulean? Then we could ask him what he is, right?" Dace said, brushing some of the rainwater from her hair. The rain wasn't coming down badly, but it was clearly enough to make the path ahead of them hazy.
"When it rains like this, I usually go and read one of my old books on my family's couch." She said distantly.
OOC: Short, but I'll make up for it in a post or two.

"Well, some ghosts have supernatural powers, that allow them to interact with the physical world.I think that Haunter or Gengar can do that. I know that Bannete can." He paused, for a moment, thinking. " Do you think that he'd actually tell you though? It looks like he's gone to lengths to prevent you from knowing much about him."
He continued looked back up at the sky, then down at Taraek. "Taraek, I'll race you to that tree up ahead." He smiled, then bolted, leaving Taraek behind with an annoyed expression on his face.
Taraek ran behind him, then used vine whip to ensnare Durant's legs, tripping him. He then jumped over Durant and ran the rest of the way towards the tree. Durant got up and chased after him, just barely losing to him.
He picked Taraek up and hugged him, smiling broadly. "No fair using your vines." He then poked him between the eyes. "Cheater." Taraek stared at him, feigning hurt, then hopped down and sat down in front of him waiting for the rest of the party to catch up.

OOC - Looks like an unfinished paragraph there, Blood, unless you wanted to make Durant lose his train of thought as completely as possible.
Ganesh trumpeted loudly and, not wanting to be left out of the fun, rolled into a spin and caught up with Durant and Taraek in a split-second. He immediately gave Taraek a competitive slap with his trunk, and the two Pokemon fell to playfully roughhousing.
Laksha smiled as she, Dace and Minnow approached Durant, Taraek and Ganesh up ahead. "Those three have such energy," she said to Dace. "And you, too. I hope I can keep up with such an enthusiastic group."

"Boys..." Dace mumbled as the three dashed around in the rain, obviously getting covered in a thin mud though it didn't seem to phase them. "I probably would run around with them, if it wasn't sooo rainy out. Like this is too chilly for me."
"And besides, you don't need to worry about us leaving you behind. You're our friend, and-" Dace fumbled for her Pokeball, returning her Burmy in a white burst. She then tossed it into the grass, another explosion of light indicating that her champion had been unleashed. "Bull rush the little punk out here! Tackle!" There was a loud, fleshy thump as Minnow lunged through a patch of brambles, colliding with something concealed in the undergrowth.
Minnow cried out in pain from some sort of retaliation, and Dace clenched her fists waiting for a result. There was a crash in the folliage, and the two brawling creatures flew out of the cover of the greenery, tumbling across the grimy pavement. A small spherical creature with a fan of brilliant verdant leaves served to cushion the impact of her Burmy, it in turn with its small, thorny teeth set into Minnow right below her neck.
"It's an Oddish..." Dace calmed down. "I was hoping for a Mankey, to round out my party. Minnow, back down. We've beat up enough of those training here earlier." Her tone had changed, a combination of her disappointment and a dispassionate analysis of the situation at hand. Minnow nodded, smashing its forehead into the Oddish to break the clinch, and then starting to shiver. The grassy Pokemon rushed at the Burmy, preparing to attempt another bite.
"Hidden Power!" Six spheres of crackling green fired out of the Burmy in sequence, each one connecting with the Oddish with a staticky snapping noise. Dace took advantage of the brief lull that the stunning attack had bought her, and charged into the grass, seizing Minnow's ball and returning it.
"Either of you want that thing? Minnow's all I need for a grass type, so I'm not gonna capture a wild Pokemon I won't use." Dace stepped gingerly around the creature as it recovered from being hit by a considerable ammount of voltage, and scampered back under the umbrella with Laksha.
OOC: Forgive me Blood, but this Route has a 40+% chance of Oddishes. It's too good to pass up.

OOC - Ah, how generous! I haven't got a Grass Pokemon yet, so if you don't mind, Blood, I think I'll snipe that. If you object, I can edit, but I'm guessing you'd rather not have two Grass/Poison Pokemon in your party. Never mind, I'd rather not take the Oddish. Blood, it's yours if you like.
With concern, Laksha looked down at the Oddish, which was trembling after the shock delivered to it by Burmy's Hidden Power. "Oh you poor thing, here," she said, and after handing the umbrella to Dace she knelt beside the Oddish, rummaging in her satchel for her berry pouch. In a moment she had extracted a berry and was gingerly feeding it to the Oddish. Ganesh, at the same time, gently nudged the plant Pokemon with his trunk.
"It's a girl," Laksha said, "you can tell by the two extra leaves on the crest. Boys only have five."
The Oddish stirred and looked feebly up at Laksha.
"I can't leave her like this." Laksha turned her gaze back down to the Oddish. "Will you come with us?"
The Oddish rustled her leaves slightly in affirmation. Laksha took an empty Pokeball from her satchel and pressed it against the Oddish's papery blue skin. In another instant, the Pokeball opened and the Oddish diffused into red light.
The young girl minimized the Pokeball and offered it to Durant. "She's yours if you like."

OOC: Actually, for what I plan on doing I'd need an Oddish. BUT!!!! It's fine with me that you got it, I really don't mind at all. (From what I plan to do I'll oddly enough have THREE grass types, but the order that get them in doesn't really matter except of course for Taraek being first.) It'll take a long time to get to that point anyway. So, no worries
BIC: ."If you're sure you don't want her then sure. We'd be glad to have another friend, right Taraek?" Taraek threw him a dirty look and shook his head slowly. "Come on pal, we need more friends than just each other, besides. You'll always be my best friend, Taraek." He then picked Taraek up and gave him a hug. "I guess that tells us that we'll encounter some pokemon here." He smiled again. "Maybe a Ratatta, or a Weedle! That'd be cool." He then tossed a Pokeball to Laksha. "Speaking of which, I guess I should replace your pokeball since you caught one for me. "He smiled and turned away to set Taraek down. He then took the ball with the Oddish in it and placed it in his bag.
"Hey Dace, did your tutor leave any other instructions for you? Like if you are supposed to meet up with him at all?"
OCC: Expect crappy writing like this from me for a bit, if I even post at all. I'm going to go back and reread somn, if I need to I'll edit this post.

OOC: Me too! I don't wanna get left out of the say something OOC and then strike it out fad! So, anyways, after a week hiatus, Fallfish is BACK!
BIC: "That's really neat!" Dace leaned in, staring at the Pokeball as Durant tucked it away. "I mean, it's like we all worked together to get that Oddish. We're already a great team, right, guys?"
"I like Ratatas. They're really flexible for a beginner's Pokemon. If I hadn't got Minnow, I think I would have used one of them instead," She paused, stroking the ball she kept the Burmy in. "I think I got the best option, though. Minnow's a lot tougher than any Ratata you'd see around here, and she's really sweet, too."
"Not really. All we gotta do is go north, save Cerulean, and that's about it."
"I guess it would have been kind of nice if he had given me instructions on how to find what we're going after..." Dace started chewing on her lower lip, "But maybe that IS our challenge?"

OOC - Oh, the difficulties of responding to three different comments in one breath.
As they resumed walking, Laksha found herself interested in Minnow the Burmy, since Dace had gotten on the subject. "Out of curiousity, how long have you had Minnow? Bug Pokemon evolve young -- is she going to be nearing the point of evolution soon? And--" Laksha thought about it for a moment, remembering what she knew about Burmies and Wormadams. "Her evolution won't be able to change cloaks any more, isn't that right? So is there a particular cloak you're for hoping her to end up with?"

Durant walked behind them, once more staring at the sky. However, this time he carried the Oddish that Laksha had caught, while Taraek walked beside him, not seeming to mind that the new pokemon was being carried.
"I bet she is" he started " a lot of pokemon, when they develop a deep bond with their trainers, will hold off on evolving to meet with a certain goal, or desire the trainer has. What cloak are you hoping for, Dace?"

"I've had Minnow for-" Dace paused, tipping her head back, "Maybe two months? I don't really know. A little bit before summer vacation started."
"I really don't know about her evolution, though. Neither of us are intentionally stopping it, but she's pretty slow at getting to it. We really don't know why it is, though my dad told that the stuff Silph did with her might make it harder for her to evolve. We're a lot stronger than other Burmies ever get, though."
"I don't really know which one is best. I guess that the grass one is the most trouble for us to take care of, but the neatest, and the other two are messier, but I won't need to help her find stuff to fix her armor up with every day."
"Really, it doesn't matter, I guess. Since she's my first, I can just build my party around whatever she ends up being," Dace smirked, "The only thing I know is that it would make me a bunch stronger than either of you!"

Laksha smiled, not wanting to contend with Dace's words. It was true, of course, that she would probably have an evolved Pokemon sooner than either of them. "Ganesh won't evolve for a while yet," Laksha said. "I don't believe Phanpies evolve until around level 25. It's the same with Matsya. And Sankh... it'll be longer for him, much longer. He won't evolve until... not 40, a bit less... ah, level 38," she remembered.
She glanced back at Durant, still carrying the Oddish, and the Bulbasaur trotting by his side. "And Taraek? Such designated 'starter' breeds generally evolve fairly soon, no? Although I have heard of trainers keeping their 'starters' at their basic forms long after they're ready to evolve."
