OOC: Just your standard battle challenge topic. For timeline purposes, we'll say that this is happening a few days before the start of Sinnoh Adventure.
BIC: Max Milen was experiencing a rare luxury -- he was bored. Guess I might as well get some battle practice in, he thought. With what's been going on lately, I'll need to be at my best.
The Safari Zone was in capable hands; Max did not need to be there personally. He walked the familiar streets, making his way to an arena on the outskirts of Fuschia that had been established specifically to allow Trainers to challenge each other to friendly battles, though it could also be used for tournaments. Not that there had been any lately.
Musing to himself, Max made his way through the building's sliding glass doors on an effective auto-pilot, and waited in a short line for the arena's registration counter. Behind the desk was a young woman, neither ugly nor especially attractive.
"Name?" she asked, clearly a bit bored herself.
"Max Milen," replied Max.
"Do you want to issue a challenge, or take an existing one?"
"Issue my own, please. Open challenge, full party."
"Are you subscribed to our challenger's mailing list?"
"Mailing list?"
"We just started it a couple of months ago. We, and some of the arenas in some of the other cities in this region, have a mailing list that will send a short text message whenever someone issues a challenge. Would you like to subscribe?"
"Sure, why not?"
The subscription process took no more than a few minutes. As they finished, the girl behind the counter gave Max a keycard.
"Field 5, it's the third door on your right. You can wait there, or we have a customer's waiting room -- first on your left. Thank you for choosing Skirmish Arenas, and good luck!"
Max paid the small entry fee, and put the card in his pocket. Guess I'll wait on the field, he thought. I doubt there'll be many people in the waiting room anyway. Quickly, he made his way to Field 5, and swiped his keycard to open the door. He took his place on one of the trainer platforms, and pulled out his Pokedex to begin selecting his team.
OOC: OK, conditions for this battle, binding on both sides:
- 6-on-6 battle, unless your character doesn't have 6 (in which case I'll match the number of Pokemon you have.)
- Before the battle begins, each of us will post the team we're using as an OOC comment. I'll try to choose my team such that the battle will be fairly even. Characters will not know which Pokemon their opponent has.
- No switching Pokemon except as a result of a KO or a move effect.
- Standard two-move turn rule (i.e. up to 2 moves per turn, including up to 1 damage-dealing move).
- Challenger may decide to send out their first Pokemon first or second. The character who sends out their Pokemon first will also get to attack first.
- Held items permitted. Use only held items present in Diamond and Pearl, and no held item can be repeated.
