SO, it's been a long while now, do you think another one of these is going to start up soon? I know I would join. I'd like to do another somewhat complicated one with lots of powers, I think they are a lot more fun, but I just want to do one in general, mafia is mafia after all. Discuss.

Eh, don't SAY it's complex, or people will start having flashbacks to the incredibly complex, mindblowingly overwhelming Mafia III. Though I think you should post your set, and we could get the gist of it.

Yeah, simpler is best. Although I think Mafia IV might have come across as a bit shallow and dry after the epic highs and lows of Mafia III. Come to think of it, I'd say Mafia II got the balance best so far in terms of simple vs. complex. It took some risks in introducing a few huge new elements that hadn't been seen in Mafia I, and there were glitches and quibbles here and there, but overall it was successful in being neither overwhelmingly complicated nor underwhelmingly simple.
So aim for something like that.
Anyway, yes I'm up for another game and I'm definitely interested to see what you'd bring to the table. The Pope for Mafia V Host!

Yeah, Mafia IV was hurt by many factors. It just didn't have the novelty of I's first Mafia, II's elaborating and balance fixes, or III's massive, forum crushing, mind blowing complexity. The return to the basics just seemed kinda pale in comparison. BTW, Photu, as fellow Mafia runner and such, I just wanted to say that you left your update hanging on the main page. *cough* Cause if Mafia IV is still in progress, it might beat Mafia III in length. Also, since this our first non-Staff host, I think I'll create a Mafia Host class for such occasions. Finally, I call 6. Multiples of 3 FTW, and the theme will be either Pokémon or Death Note... Not sure yet.

Umm I really did enjoy Mafia II a lot more than III due to the fact is was so long and it kinda took a toll on the member of the board. So either way I'm up for another game as long it doesn't start the week of the 29th.

Yeah, II was the best. It was balanced, unlike I, lacked the trouble of III, and was much more awesome than the whimper that was IV.

So you just want to play by the same rules?

What? If by "the same rules" you mean that Mafia V should add nothing whatsoever that hasn't been seen in previous games, of course not! Heck, even Mafia IV brought some innovation in the much-needed concept of audience death suggestions (and the three new roles). If you want to go crazy with adding new concepts on a Mafia II or III scale, be our guest. That's what makes the games interesting.

So, when will we see the ideas for this new game's premise? I wanna see what others can come up with, just out of my curiosity as a game designer. I'm already planning for October, Mafia 6, but I don't want to coincidentally do anything too similar.

Steph proposes a WWII theme to match the current board fad.
And also:
There was a Mafia IV?

Yeah, you missed it? It took place during one of your prolonged absences, I guess.
I mean, WHAT? VAS IST DAS MAFIA? DER SHALL BE NO SUCH THING UNDER SNIFLISH RULE! DAS WWII THEME YOU PROPOSE IST WUNDERBAR IDEE, BUT MAFIA V SHALL NEVER SEE DIE LICHT OF DAY![/size]

Indeed. We make the trains run on time here. There will be no Mafia while we crush these concepts of fun and creativity under our iron heel of superior power!

Pope still considering running 5? Because I've got a boatload of newbies here, some spare time, and two different rule sets, both *Ahem* primed and ready for play. Though I'd rather not run two in a row, and I do want to run one in October...

Go for it Lee, I kind of really wanted to play this one actually. I just didn't want to shot you down by saying "erm... ya... I don't want to host..." lol, but since you asked, go and take it

Okay. Thanks man, I'm glad to be in the saddle again. If I do Mafia (Pokémon concept, though fixed for better EP compatability.), who all is in? I'll be putting up my rules very shortly (Like 11ish)
If I'm doing this, I'd probably start it on like the 20th-ish. Give us some time for people to sign up and be ready for it. It'd be a smallish game, no items or resurrections. Probably a game with 12-15 total, with a middling Mafia ratio (12: 4 Mafia, 13: 5 Mafia, 14: 5 Mafia, 15: 6 Mafia) Might be a wee bit light, but hey, that's how it goes.

I wonder who our mafia will be this time? (looks at Rupert)
I'll edit the rules for it into this post.

Yeah, let's cut Rupert some slack this time. I remember he was one of the most excited about Mafia IV and then we just mobbed him. Have a heart!
so rupert let's have our meetings in that abandoned warehouse i think it'll be a good place to plot their demise

True, true. They were just betting on a straight run of you being Mafia. Which actually is extremely unlikely. Cause by Mafia IV, the odds were all the way down to like 1 in 32 or something ridiculous like that. But hey, that's how it goes.

You're actually trying to compute the odds of being Mafia for all four of the first games?
That'd be possible if Mafia III's role changing hadn't come along and broken mathematics.

Despite its broken mathematics, i think i was still a mafia member for practically all my time in that game... it was just 2 that i was accidently too apathetic which lead to my own demise (stupid bomb!)
