Cottonnee's evolution is, in some ways, one of the best (theoretical) pokemon in the metagame as he can always deliver a switcheroo or a taunt or an encore before the enemy pokemon can go; theoretically, extremely devastating , especially against offensive-stall teams (fuck your leftovers, now fuck the next pokemon's life orb, now fuck your leftovers, now fuck your choice specs...)

I'm seeing massive amounts of Ice Shard spammage to counteract him, because he's obviously going to be top tier alongside Sableye once the tier list settles. NO IDEA on how to counter Sableye, though, since I think it's resilient enough that there'll be no one shotting it with priority.
I dunno if I've said it here, but if Substitute works with that ability, it's borderline game breaking. Leech Seed. Substitute. Sleep Powder. Spam until you've won. (I'm guessing packing HP Fire for other Grass types that come in)

Luckily, sableye's stats are pathetic at best.
And about sleep powder, the sleep clause is there for a reason...also between when you leech seed and substitute, there's a good turn to take you out. And what I'd be running as the 4th move would be taunt against any pokemon taht need to set up or against other stallers.
What worries me more, though, is the likes of Huntail and Gorgebyss. Have you looked into Shell Break (I think that's the name). They have access to that and to Baton Pass. Switch in on something that can't do anything to them, Shell Break on the switch, Baton Pass a hefty +2 to Atk, S.Atk, and Spd with only a disadvantage of -1 to Def and S.Def (White Herb, anyone?). I'd also add Cloyster to the list as he gets that and Icicle Spear has been upped to 25 base power, but him getting hit by any (even not very effective) special move basically kills him (Last I used him on a team, switching into a surf (predicting waterfall), took off more than 50% health).

I picked up my 6th team member last night (Ducklett) and now my team seems to suddenly have the Poke-virus. Sounds fun, don't it?

Currently, my team consists of two pokemon (Emboar and a *goes to look up the english name* Zebstrika), albeit I'm still trying to figure out where to go to find the completely helpless 3rd gym leader's Munna
And PokeRus is amazing for EV training. Make sure to toss at least one of those into your computer box for EV training purposes later as that is rare as hell.

*cough Bianca's Munna cough*
My team right now consists of:
Herdier, Duwott, Tranquill, Sawk, and Roggenrola, all L24-26, plus a L5 or something Patrat as my Cut-whore. It is, of course, basically useless, so it's probably about to get switched out for a Darumaka or whatever the heck that goofy looking chicken thing is. I'm still not quite content with my team, but I'm just at the fourth gym so my options aren't what they could be.
Observations: - Ohmygah the cities and routes and everything are excellently done! - Ohmygah multi-use TMs! - Ohmygah N is a creepy mofo!

Servine Stoutland Liepard Boldore Gurdurr Ducklett Lvl 33-34 (Duckett is close to being level 34)
I don't like the experience system. I don't like being unable to advance to new cities without beating the current one's gym. Those are some pretty major problems that keep me from loving the game as much as I feel I should.
I love how my "friends" are much more involved in the game and in the story as opposed to just being the guys who randomly appear and then aren't heard of for the longest time. I also love how much more story driven the game seems to be.
I like this seasons thing which I have yet to experience, aside from Autumn (therefore I may wind up not liking it.)
I like that the game seems to have much more of a story to it.
I like that the game's team is essentially a bunch of terrorists. (After the letdown that Team Galactic was in Diamond and Pearl, this is quiet the awesome group.)
.....
I WANT TO GO BACK TO MY BERRY FARMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not an ace trainer. I'm not a pkmn breeder. I. Am. A. BERRY FARMER.
Despite that, I am enjoying the game. I especially love Celestia City, which is how I felt that the cities should have always been, huge with skyscrapers.

I've Beaten the E4 the other day, with my final team being:
Serperior (Coil is it's best move. haha) Unfezant ( Super Luck FTW!) Scrafty (OMG, definitely one of my absolute favourite new Pokemon! It's Moxie ability is freaking awesome!) Cofagrigus (Extremely high defense, and spreads Mummy like AIDs, but mine is level 56 and still hasn't naturally learned any attacks that aren't Ghost type, so no countering Normal types.) Druddigon (ALright Pokemon thanks to it's Sheer Force ability, but was mostly my Surf whore) and Vanilluxe (Which is my other Favourite Pokemon in this generation, and it had a pretty decent Special Attack, but really nothing else. lol)

Got Black last Friday. I'm doing a Nuzlocke run before I actually complete the story. Does Patrat remind anyone else of Judge doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? When he goes all crazy eyed? Srsly this pokemon is creepy shit.

Yes. Judge Doom and Patrat are a couple of creepy fuckers.
Also, what is it with you guys and your Nuzlocke runs all of a sudden? When did this become a trend? And how the hell does it work, anyway -- I mean how do you get all the way through the region with only one Pokemon? Are HM slaves allowed on the side, or what?

Iron Mouse: OMG I thought I was the only one XD That was pretty much MY FIRST THOUGHT when Partrat was first revealed all those ages ago (Yes I've been following this game since before its Japanese release XD)

This is the only other pokmon game I've ever played since blue so I had never heard of Nuzlocke before two days ago. And you're allowed to catch the first pokemon you find per route/cave/etc. So you can end up with a pretty full party.

I don't either. I don't really like being tied down to pokemon that I don't necessarily like (see: Patrat)

Nuzlocke's run? What's that?
And I enjoy using pokemon that are are good, but if I don't like using a pokemon (e.g. 'Ape in 4th gen), I won't use it.

Anyone have a female Archen I can have? Mine's a male and since I can't get a Ditto yet, I can't breed them.

My final "in-game" party turned out to be:
Samurott: Torrent 1. Surf 2. Reversal 3. Mega Horn 4. Dig A good pokemon overall... until I fell in love with Cinccino and it started lacking in levels. I like Samurott's design, and it's stats are pretty good... I especially love the "pure" water typing.
Whimsicott: Prankster 1. Stun spore 2. Hurricane 3. Giga Drain 4. Cotton Guard This thing NEVER died... ever. It has great Defense and ontop of it's ability I can pretty much guarantee my party has first move. HP starts to get low, throw in a giga drain. :3
Mienshao - Regenerator 1. Drain Punch 2. Strength 3. Hi-Jump Kick (Probably killed me more than others) 4. Bounce
This easily became one of favorite pokemon. Swift, Deadly, and a good moveset for the type coverage that I wanted. I'm loving how much more of a type advantage that fighting and bug got in this game.
Cinccino: Technician 1. Wake-up Slap 2. Encore 3. Tail Slap 4. Dig This was easily one of my best sweepers, with a decent attack, above average speed, and one of the cutest sprites ever... it turned out to be a great Poke.
Excavalier - Swarm 1. Iron Head 2. False Swipe 3. Swords Dance 4. X-Scissor A GREAT Attack stat, good type coverage barring fire attacks... and a good defenses. Steel really aided in its survival here, and even if they used a fire type physical attack it would live if it's power was low enough. I quickly fell in love with its design as well.
Zweilos - Hustle 1. Crunch 2. Dragon Pulse 3. Work Up 4. Forgot Traded it to Tim, but it turned out to be a great pokemon... was trying to get a Hydreigon but I decided to stop training after I started working on my competitive team.
Overall: Overall I REALLY enjoy the 5th generation, I thought Gamefreak did absolutely wonderful. Great refreshing feeling and a wonderful story line.

"Here are the rules I played by:
1. Catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each route/cave/whatever and nothing else. If you fail to catch it, too bad, continue onwards.
2. If you Pokemon faints, consider it dead and release it."
Those are the main two rules, different people tack on optional rules and play by them.

Post by {WW}BetaBloodWolf7 on Mar 20, 2011 22:07:00 GMT -5
And just to clarify, those are not MY rules. My rules are different.
1: If you train any pokemon it HAS to be on your team
2: You HAVE to catch any wild pokemon you encounter before you progress to the next area. If it faints you have to keep looking for it before you can advance to the next area (you can go to the next city to heal pokemon/buy pokeballs. Nothing more)
3: You CANNOT teach your pokemon any TM or HM moves. It can only use moves it learns.
4: You can teach a pokemon an HM move if it is required to move farther in the game (that means you cannot teach it an HM to go to a side area)
5: You CANNOT have a legendary pokemon on your team.
6: You CANNOT allow yourself to lose. If you lose you must start over from your last saved point.
7: You MUST beat the game in under 48 hours of in-game time.
Those are the main rules I play with (btw, number 6 is just a filler rule). This game I broke rule 7 and rule 4, but I don't care as much when it's the first run through a game. That's more about fun. (How I broke rule 7 I don't know... I had 31 hours one day and 67 hours less than two days later. I... I don't understand that. I broke rule 4 by teaching my Ducklett Fly)

... Why set forth rules on a video game? The only rule I follow is not using legendaries.

Some people like to make it a challenge. Most of my rules just evolved normally. In fact, I think they all did. None of them really consciously became rules until after I started them.

I was watching this chick play Black tonight. I kept getting upset at how the 3D looked shittier than the sprites. I also didn't like the weird perspective when you walk around. Oh, and every attack animation seemed uncomfortably long.
I will not be getting a DS.

The battles seems to go by faster, and I enjoy the moving sprites as opposed to the still ones. Gives the game a little life. I think they look absolutely fine.
