Pelantesque Keep's plot will be a crossover setting of Harry Potter and Superbad, and drug abuse will be the main plot hook.
It is that simple.

It'd probably make more sense to me if I knew a single thing, or really even cared, about "Superbad".

it's a michael cera high school comedy movie. it's not hard to extrapolate from there that it involves everyone being really awkward and inappropriate.

It is Ortigue, situated on the Ortigueil Peninsula, and home of the Ortigians.
This way I can have a racist term for them be "Those damn 'tigues"

Definitely misread that at first.
My mental response was, "I'm already cool and do fancy characters. Yoon is quite fancy."

thinking about making the trains not pulled by train engines but instead pulled by several horse golems so that trains make galloping sounds instead of chugging sounds. Also horse golem carriages (and normal horse carriages) in fancy cities/pelantesque. Thoughts?

Poop golems, however, do exist and are terrible.

I can't say that I'm terribly fond of golems pulling trains and carriages. I'd stick with exotic animals and the like.

I'm with blood. If you want golems then I say we get a race of shapeshifting dragons or something equally lame to do it.

I say instead, they use gigantic sow-bug/land shrimp style beasts to pull carts and the like. That way, you've got the general look and aesthetic of horses in war-plate, but it's also something very alien.
Bonus points if they have mantis-shrimp style mitts up front and can punch people's heads off. Punching heads off is always worth +20 points. (Little do the rest of you know, the Ortigians all specialize in PUNCHING HEADS OFF.) (or not.)

so instead of galloping or chugging, the trains scuttle? werd. I'm just trying to keep an edge of magic in it, though, since the trains were supposed to be run by mages and the like. So chimeras? I guess they have those now?
Or just mind controlled animals that are usually pretty frisky.

I was thinking maybe something like magite etchings in their shells which render them basically without any free will to speak of and leave them at the control of some mage that operates a simple control board with magite beads slotted into it.
Bonus points if the creatures molt on a regular basis, every couple months or so, and then become wild and uncontrollable until they magite-brainwash them again.
Alternately, pillbugs are actually subject to a disease where a virus crystalizes inside their flesh, turning them a shade of blue. I don't know exactly what you could do with this, but it is possible that people could feed these pillbug clydesdales magite until they mature, and the crystalized magite in their systems would render them basically in a borderline vegetative state and very easy to control.

lee you are like the best at making ideas. i'm liking the molting version. maybe it's selective breeding for strong creatures that are "proven" to be super dumb and easy to control, and the etchings are just for finer control. And making them not go crazy.
only issue i have now is how angry would the masses be on a moral standpoint?

I suppose I should at this point interject to log my idea since the topic is now winding down....
Everything has gone as planned....
Zenin Tharle, a race of shapeshifting dragons! *gasp*
I've already discussed this a bit with Choobeh so I'll just give the basic premis. These things cannot use magic, aside from their shapeshifting ability. And they're more like werepeople than shapeshifters. They have the ability to take on human form, and a stage halfway between human and their true form, mainly because they hunt and eat humans.
With magic users being a delicacy.
These things are basically nutter strong and tough in their true forms, along with being very intelligent, but tend to be loners outside of wartimes. During wartimes, however, they will ally themselves with humans to protect the overall stock...Cuz humans killin eachother is bad for their bellies in the long term.
Additionally, a couple mages/magic users/insanely tough people capable of attacking from range/are a pretty major issue to these dudes. Especially in human or half human form. They can't shapeshift out of human form while a person is looking at them, or at and point where they think a person might be looking at them. Its just part of their nature to maintain their cover, its instinctual, not a decision they get to make.
In their true form they do resemble dragons, so I guess we can call em dragons of a kind. They have four forelegs positioned more towards the front, and two hindlegs like a traditional dragon. They are skinny, leanly muscled for their size, ribcages are pretty visible. Spines go down the back and tail, with large forward curving horns on the front of the head. Their heads are long and triangular, and they have razor smiles with dozens or large, sharp teeth.
Their colouring tends more towards black with streaks of a dark colour, such as blue, red, or violet. They do have very large wings, and are more than capable of flight. They have no breath weapon, however, and rely purely on tooth, claw, and horn for damage in this shape. In human form they can be quite proficient with whatever weapon they chose, but are limited to little more than human physical value.
Zenin is the name of the species, Tharle is the name of the particular Zenin in this instance. It's used by humans believing this is the name of their species as a whole, since Tharle was the first to actually introduce himself. If more were to speak of their names, Zenin would prefix their name.
These guys are VERY uncommon and they are terratorial. I do intend to have one as a character, cuz I think it'll be fun as hell.
