I'd omitted Rance because IIRC he's had a few sketches done of him, but if you want him back in (or another entry) I'll gladly plug one in for ya.

After many tests and papers here this is. Flint: Pohatu: I think this portrait is a fairly accurate depiction of Flint. His build shows muscle without making him huge and the cheekbones prove that its not fat. I'm not entirely sure if his eyes look bored or sad but I think that both emotions are appropriate for him, although I think that in (Dis)orientation they would be leaning more toward bored. I think the only real complaint I have about this one is his hair. It's perfect for Pyre but it would be a lot neater by the time of (Dis)orientation, which is the time period I assume this picture is of. Overall rating 9/10. Cendra: First off, huge props on the ice. I can't imagine how hard that must have been to draw. I really like how this picture shows The differences between Flint and Zagaroth even though they share the same body. The spear is amazing, just like in (Dis)orientation. I also like how you included void into the picture although I won't say much on the importance of that just yet. Now that the good is done on to the bad. Again I have a complaint about the hair, it kind of makes him look like the professor from back to the future. Zagaroth looks kind of friendly and Flint looks unsure about how he feels. His feelings for Zagaroth are very well defined. As for void his face should be a white circle instead of dark like the rest of his body. Overall rating 9/10. flint This is my own work, please forgive my artistic ability. This kind of shows the difference in their personalities and the relationship between the three of them.

As an aside, how would somebody feel about a month of entries where everybody draws different big things from RP (Mecha, summons (Tiamat, Bahamut, etc.) and other such things?) It'd be fun, and open things up to a new crowd, but it'd also be a bit of a hassle for our normal people, since you guys specialize in people mostly (photu showed some solid dragon aptitude with Spitfire back in the day, tho'!)
Not presently, probably would be thrown onto the end of the list, btw.

Gotta ask for an extension, sorry, I haven't even begun one yet. Been super busy over here and anniversary character ratings are just about the only thing I've had time for on Archie Exie in the last month.

I know Addison and Lee have things planned so I'm willing to wait for them even if they go over the deadline a little bit, within reason

for anyone wondering I'm waiting on Lee to submit his sprite before I judge, unless Lee's not gonna do anything in which case I'll proceed
DL can go ahead and post ref material for the next contest though (also the list needs to be updated and I wanted to add Halley to the list)

FUCK IT, LET'S START JUDGINGI WILL JUDGE LEE'S ENTRY IF/WHEN IT HAPPENS BUTWITHOUT FURTHER ADO:POHATUWhat I like about this entry is how youthful Hector looks. That might be attributed to the sailor top, actually, but something about his aura here really feels like he's still, in some ways, a boy, despite the fact that he's nearly 26. And that's part of the essence of Hector's character, so solid job there. Points as well for what I presume is a mai tai he's drinking. Now for the more technical part of my review. The pose is working out okay except I think maybe the left leg feels a bit too small and a bit too short?? The fabric folds are cool. However, let's talk about the materials here now that I have an opportunity to do so: it's really interesting that you're choosing to work with an aliased brush. In the wrong hands it looks like MS Paint garbage, yet you're making it work somehow. So color me impressed. But man, I really gotta say, I'm kind of bummed out that the pen-and-paper Photugraphy era is over. Traditional Photugraphy had an analog warmth to it, like a cherished vinyl record. Digital Photugraphy, I dunno man, don't get me wrong because I think it's super cool and the aliased look is interesting, but... I dunno, between the aliasing and the cool greys, it just feels kind of... a little austere, I guess. I would love to see you try more brushes that emulate the look and feel of traditional inking materials. I guess I can't really complain too much. In the year of our Lord 2016, 5 1/2 years later; I, Stevie Lugiasian, can say that I have had one of my characters immortalized by Mr. Pohatufan One. finallyRating: 8/10ADDISONLike okay, first of all, I have to give you kudos for even submitting something while mired neck deep in senior project. For those of you non-MCADets, that's a real admirable feat. For a loose warm-up sketch, this is really good. It captures a really sweet candid moment, which I'm all about, since I'm really pushing the Cool Dad angle with Hector since the 2015/2016 revival. I'm gonna skip over the proportions and the figure stuff since it's all good and fine and I don't have a lot to say about it. I admire how loose and natural the poses feel. Hector's facial hair, it's so piratey and I'm mostly down with that except I'm feeling like maybe it's aging him a slight bit more than I'm used to. This is Hector, Who Is In Fact a Grown Man and a Responsible Father At Least Most of the Time. He's probably become a bit of an old soul by now, so this is OK. The only thing I am a bit unclear about is how Pleiades's mouth looks, she's gasping but I can't tell what's tongue and what's teeth and what's lip? Her hair is pretty spot-on though. Overall, it's a loose barebones sketch, but dang if it's not a real doozy. Sometime when the heat is off and we're less busy, I'd love to see a more complete piece. Rating: 7/10

"Aliasing", thanks for putting a name to it, I'm not up on my technical terms. Looking into GIMP, I can't figure out a way to turn it off. There are other brush styles that aren't aliased but they get all blurry around the edges and I don't like that.
I guess this is your opportunity to plug that manga maker software again

There are other brush styles that aren't aliased but they get all blurry around the edges and I don't like that. I guess this is your opportunity to plug that manga maker software again my dude, Manga Studio 5 (the latest version is called Clip Studio Paint, they're the same program though, it's a rebranding, long story) is only like $40 at most and $15 at best when it's on sale, and it's worth every last penny, believe me. On to your issue about the brushes, you see this box right here? This neat little box is where you can fuck around with your brush settings. That anti-aliasing setting allows you to make a brush as hard or as fuzzy as you want it. What I love about MS5/CSP is that the learning curve is much easier than Photoshop's if you're illustrating. I cannot recommend it enough. (And if/when you do get it, check out the Frenden brushes. I use a lot of them in my own work and they're just divine, really.)
