Lorenna connected with the butterfly on the woman's finger and found much the same thing as Lydia. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. Just the normal dirt, greenery and swamp. She might have asked what what the woman meant by “When myself takes me”, but was none to keen to relive their earlier chaos.

"What do you mean by 'when myself takes me'?" She asked, snapping out of her internal argument. She shifted to face the woman, chewing furiously on the small wad of leaves in her mouth.
"Please describe it as fully as you can to us. We may be able to help you."

The woman sighed deeply, lolling her head back against the floor. "I hate it. When this..." She used her free hand to yank at a lock of hair, "Makes me do what it wants. It makes me eat food, even if I don't want to. Even if I shouldn't. And then everybody tries to kill me. Again."
Maude shifted her grip slightly on the oar, trying to meet the woman's gaze.
"Food? What's your food?"
The woman looked up, and smiled simply.
"All of you."

Lorenna winced at the new information. She couldn't die here! She needed to get home to her family! This wasn't at all what she'd signed up for. Her breathing escalated as she tried to untangle herself from under Maude and put more distance between her and the creature calling the surrounding butterflies to her person.
“So... can we leave now?” She said as she tried to keep her nervous tears at bay.

"Not until we get that moss first, Lorenna." said Lydia as she walked back to her duffel. She pulled out a small black plastic bag and spat the wad of leaves into it before digging through the rest of the duffel-bag's contents.
"Now then, do you normally eat people, or is it just when this other you is in charge. Also how long have you known this other you, and what do you know about it?"

"I don't eat people. If I eat something, it's food." She tilted her head quizzically, and moved the hand with the butterfly on it closer to her face. With a light flick, she set it on her forehead, where it perched, fanning its wings.
She went crosseyed, staring at it.
"And if I don't, it's not. But when I'm the other me, I have to eat. It makes me, even if I don't want to. I want that to go away..."

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth... In through your nose and out through your mouth... just like mom taught you... She thought as she tried to regulate her breathing. The shock of her situation was finally catching up with her. Other powers do things like this all the time. You don't want them to think you're weak. The last of the words echoed from what seemed a long time ago. Finally she tried concentrating on the gentle hum the butterflies offered and turned away from the group as she wiped her runny nose with her gloves.

"What of your other self? How long have you known it and what do you know about it?" she asked the woman, her voice suddenly firm. Is she trying to avoid my questions? She pulled out the small blue-tinted bag again as well as a floral themed coin purse and moved back towards the woman, stuffing another small wad of leaves in her mouth as she went.

Maude took a step back, giving Lydia room for her interogation. She braced the oar against her hip, and reached behind her to put her hand on Lorenna's shaking shoulders. "It's okay, it's okay... We've got this under control, she's not going to hurt you. If she even moves, she'll have to go through me... And I won't let that happen."
The woman scooched up, bracing her back against one of the seats.
"My other self?" She bowed her head, and took hold of curtains of hair in each hand. She held them up, the barbs scraping against the sides of the boat, "This is her. If I go too long without eating, or don't eat enough, it makes me. My other self cares not if I don't want to eat, or if it would get people to try to kill me... It just takes, and eats... Unless..." She fell silent, and stared intensely at Lydia.

Lorenna nodded as Maude spoke. Butterflies flitted in distress and landed on her face as few tears escaping from her closed eyes making her smile lightly. “Thanks guys.” she whispered. Even the butterfly who was on the black haired woman came flitting over to add some comfort, but it carried a different tone than the others. Lorenna's brows scrunched for a moment. What was that scent? It was familiar, but only just. Where had she smelled it before? Then, she realized it, she hadn't smelled it before, but they had! Everywhere!
“The moss!” she shouted as she turned perhaps a bit too quickly in the small boat making it tip briefly to the side. “ You want the moss! The scent is all over you.”

"So that is what your other self wants." said Lydia with a hint of surprise. " I had wondered what it was, especially when she attacked me over the others. But why that? We're looking for more of it here, why not just collect it yourself?"

The woman's face lit up at the mention of the moss, and she nodded so hard that the boat shook. Her milk-white hand slipped into her ragged clothes, and she rummaged around to find a pocket. After jamming her arm up her other sleeve, almost to the shoulder, she finally fished something out.
Glimmering in the faint sunlight, a cracked vial that matched Lydia's sample rested in her hand. The spiderwebbed glass was smeared with dried blood, seeping into the gaps. A few faint, grey-brown crumbs flecked the bottom of the glass, the last traces of a similar sample to their own.
"I, no, not I. The other self, it ate food that had this with it, and then it stopped wanting to eat. I could think, I could talk with the food, choose when I wanted to eat, when I wanted to let it go. If I..." She paused, at a loss for words. The woman shrugged, and then gestured as if she was snorting something from her palm, "It would let me put the other self away."
"I tried to follow, to get to where more of..." She gestured to the vial, "There was none left... My other self would never let me get more."
"And so that's why it attacked us..." Maude murmured, her voice surprising her colleagues after her long silence. "As long as she has this moss, even if her diet's unethical, she can avoid going on killing rampages at a whim. She can act like a person, and think and grow. And that's the last thing that her appetite would ever want... It wanted to kill us before we could treat her."

Lorenna discreetly wiped her nose before speaking.
“So, maybe we should get on that now before 'other self' wakes up?” she said, looking between Lydia and Maude expectantly. “We can use what we have now. It shouldn't take us long to find more for both of us to have a nice stash. I have about 5 location marks already. We just have to harvest them.”

It was possible that it could keep the creature down, but in it's current dead and dried out state it's not a guarantee.
Still, Lydia took the jar and passed it to Maude. "It would be best for you to give it to her. I can identify it and Lorenna knows the other locations. Should we pass it to her it may provoke a response."
